Going to need a citation on that 40% number. I'm pretty oil produced here is up and imports down 20%.
-
More efficient energy will not only create new jobs, it will make businesses and workers possibly more productive. Developing new types of energy that can be used easily will attract businesses to come to the country. But probably the most important thing it does it cuts our imports of oil. Obama has already done that by 20% I believe over his first four years.

Tonights cage match, Romney vs Obama 3
fjl2nd replied to Just Jack's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Old people always think they know better than younger folks. They get so bent out of shape!! It's okay though, I don't like people my age either... -
Yeah, I don't really see the big deal about the article either. Just a standard conservative viewpoint...
-
I'm assuming you are talking about Obama's plan? Yes, I support a good chunk of what he brings to the table. Plus, I support some of the things he has accomplished over the last four years as well. Items he got done I agreed with: - Health Reform - I think the plan is decent. Not single payer like I prefer, but was a plan 1996 Republicans would have loved! - Recovery Act - There are a couple things to look at there. It did not do enough to stimulate the economy in the very short-term. However, there were some good things hidden in there like clean energy investments and raising fuel efficiency standards over time. Also not big enough overall to stimulate demand. - Capturing Bin Laden. Enough said. - Ending War in Iraq and closing in on Afghanistan. - Race to the Top in education. This country's future depends on investment in education. That doesn't necessarily mean more money, but also better programs and policies. On to his plan going forward: - Focusing again on education. He is proposing recruiting 100,000 new teachers for math and science. And a renewed focus of training workers at community colleges. Education is the most important aspect to the future direction of the coutnry. The age of low-skilled, high paying jobs is over. - Taxes. There is a lot that goes into tax policy. I agree that income rates on the wealthy should go up to back around 40%. That has little effect of economic growth , but can bring in more tax revenue. I agree with the estate tax, which Romney is trying to eliminate. Capital Gains should be around 20%. Closing corporate loopholes is also a plus. - Implementation of Obamacare. A smooth transition to this giant program is best. I don't it would be repealed regardless but at least there won't be a fight over it. - Clean Energy. Does Romney have any plans on energy outside of oil? Obama has set standards for the future. Cars required to have a standard of 54 MPG by 2025. Utility companies will have to use clean energy sources. Plenty of investment in all different types of energy. All this leads to longer term growth for the country. I have more but wanted to post something before everyone falls asleep while I work overnight!

1988! Is what did comparable to the massive amount of white kids nowadays in all white areas calling each other the n-word? Just because white people use words between themselves doesn't mean there isn't racial meaning to it when used in a separate manner.
-
We can make another thread on Obama and talk about his plan there, but here we're just focusing on Romney.
-
I know where it came from and I also know how it has been used in the past. Andrew Cuomo used the same language describing Obama in 2008. There are racial undertones there 100%. Sarah Palin knew what she was saying and how she was sayg it.

I wanted to make a thread to talk only about Mitt Romney and his "plans" (mainly economic) for the country. What is he bringing to the table that will make us a better country now and in the future. He has been overly vague and it is pretty much fact now that is tax policy proposals are basically impossible mathematically along with balancing a budget. He is so vague about things that it is hard to get a sense of what he will actually do or at least propose. The guy is saying anything that sounds good right now to get elected. It's a little scary that he is basically running on nothing and is close to winning. The evil Paul Krugman has a new column comparing the two candidate's economic plans : http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/26/opinion/krugman-pointing-toward-prosperity.html?_r=0 So, maybe some of his supporters here can give me their take why Mitt is better for the country without insulting our current President. You can compare policy but at least try to keep the focus on Romney. Or I guess you can direct me to his website!

Liz Warren Has Nice Lead On Scott Brown
fjl2nd replied to Duck_dodgers007's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I don't like Warren personally. I'd probably vote Brown if I lived there.... -
To be fair, the 2008 was disgusting from some on the right. Some of the things said at rallies were appalling. Do you remember everybody calling him a terrorist?? That was a dark time that no one in the Republican party should want to look at. Kudos to Sarah Palin for keeping it alive with her "shucking and jiving" comments the other day though.......

fjl2nd replied to birdog1960's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
That site is not updated. Intrade has Ohio 57.7% for Obama and 41% for Romney. http://www.intrade.com/v4/misc/electoral-map/ Obama 277-257 according to them. -
Tonights cage match, Romney vs Obama 3
fjl2nd replied to Just Jack's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Doesn't it bother any conservatives here that Romney completely changed his positions on foreign policy since the primaries? Just wondering. He should of went to the debate with a sign that read: "I agree the President". -
A couple of things that you may not have known...

I wonder if you said this in 2004 with Bush?? -

So who are the Republicans going to run in 2016? -
It's tough man. It's tough. The "stupid" has taken over the media and giant factions of the political parties.

As of right now, I think Obama still comes out a winner barely. He is still leading in the all important Ohio and I think he will win Iowa. As long as Obama wins Ohio, I do not see him losing. He will pick up either Iowa or Nevada or both. Michigan and Pennsylvania are his no matter what RCP says. Wisconsin probably as well. It looks like he has 271 votes locked up if he gets Ohio. But, a Romney win would not surprise me at this point... Official tally for me: Obama 277-261

I'm so ready for this election to be over... I read the same Op-Ed's daily from the right and the left and it's just the same bull ****. They have been printing the same Op-Ed essentially in the WSJ for 4 years about Obama not taking responsibility for anything. And this time at the debate he did take full responsibility over Libya and still....Thursday morning, there it was in the WSJ. Seriously, we're nitpicking over word choice. It's !@#$ing retarded. Neither candidate has anything to offer so the media and us included harp on dumb things. It's fun sometimes but I'm starting to get fed up with it all.

Romney isn't President yet!
-
I'm way late to this party. My quick thoughts as if anyone cares: I thought Obama won clearly. Romney really blew his Libya answer and got factchecked on stage which was brutal for him. I see whining about the moderator on here (not a surprise). Mitt Romney has a track record of going at with the moderators. heard the same crap in the first debate. The difference was that Crowley wasn't having it. It's surprises me that you guys aren't calling out Romney for being disrespectful the way you did to Paul Ryan. (well, it doesn't REALLY surprise me) He disrespected Obama on numerous occasions by going out of his way to ask his own questions to the President and keep harping on him for an answer. All in all, I thought Romney sounded like a doosh up there and probably didn't appeal to the public. I could be wrong, but we'll see.

Positives/negatives from today. What are yours?
fjl2nd replied to miserable_fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Positives: - The D-line came to play. This is the pass rush we need to be successful. - Jairus Byrd. We need to lock him up ASAP. - Spiller. He should be getting 80% of the touches out of the backfield for now on. - Leodis McKelvin! I never thought he was as bad as everyone made him out to be and he is having a great year on special teams and is now contributing on defense. I wouldn't mind Gilmore and McKelvin starting together. - Stevie was running great routes. Watching today's game made me think he could be a top 10 WR in this league if the QB could get him the ball. Negatives: - Chan Gailey. I would have fired him after this game if Jay Feely hits that FG at the end of the game. So many questionable decisions by Gailey in the most critical of times. - Fitz. I am a huge fan of the guy, but he is not making the throws. Is it possible David Lee ruined him? Fitzpatrick from 2010 or 2011 was never this inaccurate. He is missing BASIC throws. Chan should tell him just to go out there, have fun, and don't think about mechanics or any of that. Make the read and throw the ball - that's it! - Nick Barnett. I seen him miss a bunch of tackles out there. He doesn't seem to have the same intensity he had a year ago. -
Bitter, Angry Old White Men
fjl2nd replied to Duck_dodgers007's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The GOP has a problem with demographics right now, but I do see some future stars of the party helping with that. (Rubio, Jindal, Martinez, Ayotte) I know Republicans don't like when it's pointed out, but their party largely consists of older white guys. That has to change at some point.
