20 Years of QBs and 300 yard Games
TwistofFate replied to Mango's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, but I disagree with your assessment. Mahomes on this team and he easily has 300+ yards multiple times this year. Buffalos receivers are more than capable. The only thing holding back this offense is Allen. Fumbles, picks, over throwing recievers, missing recievers, and unable to beat a blitz with his arm. -

Im far from the losing end of the debate and you are simply too ignorant to see it. Stat after stat displayed in this thread proves it. You choose to ignore it. If you fail to have a dynamic offense that's capable of throwing the football successfully, you aren't going anywhere. The league standard for a great passing game is 300+ yards. There is a plethora of 300+ stats and the correlation to wins, super bowl wins and appearances and the longevity of a Qbs career...you flat out ignore it. I don't need a hug, you need a reality check. This is 2019, not 1959. -

I'd say too ignorant. Anyone who believes sub 300 yard passing games for years in a row is ok, is either suffering from dementia or too ignorant to understand modern NFL football....or the could be protecting their man crush, Josh Allen. I'd be interested to see if they felt the same way about TT who lived under 300. -

Add another 300+ yard win with jimmy gs 300+ yard performance to the record. -
DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) calculates a team's success based on the down-and-distance of each play during the season, then calculates how much more or less successful each team is compared to the league average. According to Football Outsiders, DVOA "breaks down every single play of the NFL season to see how much success offensive players achieved in each specific situation compared to the league average in that situation, adjusted for the strength of the opponent. Not that complex to understand. We've faced terrible teams all year, we haven't had any convincing or dominant wins over any of them. Its no wonder we are ranked where we are. Multiple ints, fumbles and incompletions against the weakest defenses in the league will help drop your DVOA score in a hurry. This is were Allen ranks compared to his counterparts... https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/qb/2019

Who did we beat, how did we beat them and was it convincing? You all just keep looking at 5-2, 5-2, 5-2...its great...but you fail to take into consideration the quality of teams we played and how we performed in the win. DVOA actually looks at those metrics. Its not just looking at wins and losses. This is a middle of the pack team.
-
I just find it funny how everyone who isn't drinking Kool-aid and is critical of certain aspects of the team have an "agenda." Everyone enjoys being 5-2 and having winning records, but there are legitimate questions and concerns about the team regardless of the record. We aren't exactly out there dominating teams or winning against quality opponents. The lack of signatures wins and domination of lesser opponents suggests we are paper champs. IMO, we are a middle of the pack team who had the ball bounce our way quite a few times this year.

It has nothing to do with being right and everything to do with actually watching football, and the Bills aren't the only team I watch. The is no "act." Its called reality. We've won, we are 5-2, but the reality is we've played poor teams, our defense has bailed out Allen with his turnovers and fumbles game after game against those poor teams. He hasn't had a dominant performance all season even playing against all sub par defenses. We've invested in recievers, running backs, TE and offensive lineman to give him the best chance at success. He hasnt taken advantage of it imo. Its troubling he hasn't been able to light up one team this year despite the weapons added around him. I need to see more, much more before he can be called a franchise guy. -

I remember clearly what I wrote. You conviently left out the first part of the quote... OFFENSE wins games...You aren't getting to a championship without winning games offensively. I could care less about what the score of last years Super Bowl is, its irrelevant. Both of those teams got there with high level Qb play....period, end of story. At the next level you need to bring a defense, but you aren't getting to the next level without an OFFENSE. Ill be one of the first to congratulate Allen on 300+, im not rooting against him, I simply don't believe in him...big difference. Make me a believer... because with each passing week, each fumble, each interception, and each mediocre performance, I drift further and further from the belief he is a franchise guy. -

I understand that, but I was using Allens garbage time as an example. What does it say? Its says that there's no chance at victory when down if you cant put up big numbers at the Qb position. -

If you have a quarterback they can't throw for 300 yards you aren't going anywhere in the playoffs. I want Super Bowl wins and that's not going to happen with a quarterback that cant throw for 300 yards. You have shown your true colors, a person that doesn't understand today's modern NFL and the importance of a dominant Qb. Your screen name says it all. Congrats on living in the 80s. Whats the strength of schedule? Hes put up them stats against the worst statistical defenses in the NFL....and still couldn't post a 300 yard game. -

? I just clarified for you in writing that I'd rather see a loss with growth than a win based in average play. What exactly more do I have to own? If we continue to win against sub par opponents with sub par play, we arent going anywhere. If we lose a couple games against top tier teams but Allen steps up his game and throws for 350 and 3tds, Im fine with it. If he's showing growth in that loss, Id rather see that then winning against a team thats winless by way of ONE good drive in the 4th quarter....period. -

Not really. The ball is moving down field, right? The sticks continue to move, right? Hitting guys in stride on slants, screens, and seams lead to big gains. Tom Brady has made a career out of it. Then the defense sits on a route, your Wr pops a double move and you hit a huge pass. You might be cool with 10 incompletions in a row, but personally, for me, its pathetic. -

I cant believe you continue to take my post out of context. Id rather see a loss with growth, than a win based in mediocrity. Everyone wants to win, but if there's no growth and you're relying week in and week out on the defense shutting down opponents, get ready to be an average team forever. If you can't understand that, I don't know what more to say. -

Buffalo was playing against the Eagles in garbage time. Allen threw 10 incomplete passes in a row. Its not circumstantial...if your Qb cant put up that number or more, you don't have a chance to win...thats the point. Franchise guys do it early in their career and do it often as their career progresses. Im completely dumbfounded by the fact people are not concerned that half way through our "franchise" Qbs second year, he has yet to throw a 300 yard game, especially when we are behind. He runs when facing a blitz instead of beating it with his arm. Im not going to call him a bust, yet, but his lack of big plays and passing ability thus far is troubling. If Allen doesn't show some big improvement moving into the second half of his second year, there is going to be serious questions about legitimacy as a franchise guy. -

You are trying to cherry pick. Ryan is a franchise Qb. He posted tons of 300+. He's taken over multiple games. And again, he posted multiple 300+ his rookie year, like 1st round Qbs are supposed to do. As well as won, as well as completed a high percentage of passes, as well as had a good Qb rating, as well as not turning the ball over multiple times a game. -

Lol. Offensive rookie of the year. League mvp. 4x pro bowler. And a super bowl appearance. They would highly agree. -

300+ yard passing means one thing to me. A Qb can take over games when he needs to in order to win. Consistent 300+ performances means you are an elite passer and your team is pretty much never out of a game. Sub 300 yard passers that span the course of 1+ years in todays modern NFL indicates a serious Qb deficiency. The league today is hand tailored for Qbs to excel at the position. None of those Qbs you spoke of are a franchise Qb....I wonder why? This is an offensive, pass oriented league. If you cant post 300 yard games and lead your team to wins when you're down 10-14 points, you'll never be a franchise Qb....period. -
Laugh it up, its true. Minus the big 65 yard run, the average yard per carry by Philadelphia was 3.8 yards, at 153 yards total. 26 teams in the NFL average 3.8 yards or more per carry on offense. The offense was inept, its ranked 24th in the league, and Allen continues to be wreckless with the ball. The defense did not play as bad as the stat line suggests.
-
I went back and re-watched the game. In all honesty, the defense didn't play as bad as the scire and stat line suggests. One 65 yard run, and about 25 yards of Wentz scrambling on the Eagles final TD drive is what made the stat line the way it was. A few broken tackles also helped the stat line. After rewatching it, its really not as bad as it seemed in real time. Not acceptable, but not as bad. The offense on the other hand....terrible. Especially in the second half. Feliciano was blown up multiple times, had numerous penalties, and just looked terrible. Allen was way off the mark on many throws and missed Brown wide open on quite a few plays, as well a Beasley. Play calling was definitely not the problem....it was execution.

All this tells me is we need a Qb. How many of the losses are to teams with a bonfide franchise Qb? We cant compete with the best with mediocre Qb play, I dont care how good the defense is. We've always had pretty darn good defenses, but you need to score points to win.
