Can the Bills Win More than 3 Games ?
clayboy54 replied to Owen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haven't you heard... every opponent is coming off a week of extra rest. 0-16 -
You're being far too kind when you use the word talent. In the sense that every NFL player is extremely talented, yes. But in your context, there really isn't a whole lot of exceptional talent on this team. Levitre, Byrd and the rest didn't play up to .500 ball, so why should they get top 5 money? If you're gonna be a 6-10 team, I bet there are plenty of 6-10 type players that can fill those roles for a minimum salary. Neither one of them scored enough points or won us any games to warrant top dollar.

#8 spot generating the most buzz
clayboy54 replied to Billsrhody's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IMO at least 3 QBs will go in the 1st round this year, whether or not you and/or the "experts" say it's a reach. That's the way it goes. Once the first one goes they'all start going. Bills better be careful how many picks they trade down because we might be surprised to see all "name" QBs will be gone. -
Who will be the best qb out of this class?
clayboy54 replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
From weighing the opinions of commentators I respect like Pat Kirwan, Gil Brandt and Phil Simms, I am seeing a trend toward Nassib, Glennon and Wilson. It seems Nassib is a natural leader and a decent thrower if not great. Glennon is the best arm with suspect decision making and Wilson is the best overall prospect but far from mature and ready. I have no earthly idea at this point, but that Manuel is probably not well suited for Buffalo and we don't have luxury of time to develop Wilson. If you buy into the opinion that a Buffalo QB needs a strong arm, then Glennon is probably the choice. Otherwise, either Geno or Barkley are ready and Nassib is the pick if Marrone believes in him. God bless whoever gets the nod. I wish them only the best. -

I'd rather have Loadholt at RT and move somebody else back inside. -
in 1965 KC Chief Mack Lee Hill died shortly after the game in which Mike Stratton put a terrific hit on him at the Rockpile. He didn't die on the field, but did die of complications during surgery the day after the game, as I recall. I was in attendance and remember hearing the news on Monday, but otherwise cannot remember the circumstances.

Trade with Rams could be a win for both teams
clayboy54 replied to Got_Wood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who in their right mind would trade for any Bills' 1st round pick? That pick is always a bust, or close to it. It's just a jinxed pick. -
The 53 Year Anniversary Bills Wall of Shame Awards
clayboy54 replied to Meathead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to nominate Dennis Shaw at QB, Bobby Barnett at RB, Gary Bugenhagen at G and Mack Yoho at K. Especially Shaw and Barnett who had shown so very much promise their rookie years, and then nothing, nada, zip. -

Manti Te'o is extremely underwhelming. Kind of reminds me of Kelvin Sheppard, doesn't he? -
Maybe he'll bring Jake back to Buffalo to kickoff.

Finally some good news - Arthur Moats has a new daughter

Do they know who the mother was? -
Interesting that Ralph actually owns the locker room, whether or not the players admit that. As owner he can do as he pleases and if the team quits because they don't like their boss' decision, then so be it. I am so very tired of reasoning why we keep losing. Its just that we do that pisses me off.

What an enlightening piece of news. I would have never guessed it. All along I figured Fitz was the 2nd coming of Daryl "The Mad Bomber" Lamonica.

I think Fitz will save Chan's job this year...
clayboy54 replied to Mr. WEO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think what WEO is saying is that Fitz will be just good enough to save the jobs of the coaching staff and maybe even the management. That's always been the problem around here. The Bills are just good enough to squeek by with what we already have. Sad, but true. -
4 Steps to Salvage the Season
clayboy54 replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Since we all know that nobody's getting fired, what would be your "real" plan? With the rules of the new CBA, you can't work the players too hard which is exactly why we're so friggin soft. This is also the reason we're seeing so many injuries across the league. The teams can't demand accountability because the CBA won't allow for any repercussions for playing poorly, making mistakes, or just flat-out laying down. The only way you can get results is by turning to veteran players to step-up and lead. So, if I were Chan, I would pull aside the player who is "the heart & soul of this team", namely Fred Jackson. I would empower FJ to take it upon himself to kick some sense into the rest of this team. I might even let him run a practice without coaching. I'd ask him to push the guys until they drop. The union can't file a grievance against their own now, can they? I would keep this up until things turn around. This, my friend, is the only way things will change IMO. -
Hank Bullough is available and is only 78 years old. Kay Stephenson is available, but is a bit young at a mere 67.

Brady: They dared us to run
clayboy54 replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe George Edwards is available. Why do you think the answer to everything is to "fire [insert name here]"? Who's gonna replace them? You? Just enjoy what they give you. After all, we did play rather well in the 2nd quarter. Nothing else is gonna change with this ownership and management group. -
This is really a tough one for me to understand. I am in total agreement that it is every fan's right and obligation to express themselves based on the on-field performance. If you go to a concert and the band sucks you don't give them a standing ovation. However, Fitz is a really good guy. He has upside. There are clearly things he can do that prototypical QBs cannot always get done. He has physical limitations though. That is abundantly evident. Right now, Fitz is the person we brought to the dance. So, do you dance with him or sit on the sidelines sulking? I agree with the OP that we might choose to give him at least a little support and hope we can get enough from him to allow the rest of the team to carry us. If and when we have an alternative, we can call for a change. I was sitting in the rockpile every week booing Jack Kemp and calling for Lamonica. But today, I am not going to boo Fitzy and call for the alternative which is clearly much worse.
