  1. Shades of Fred Dryer.
  2. I’m gonna laugh when we trade up to 6, Beane watches the QB feeding frenzy ensue, blue chippers fall, and he takes Chubb.
  3. Every few weeks we get another list of QB draft busts and every few weeks I have to repeat that, while interesting, it is totally irrelevant to this draft and these prospects and these teams.
  4. Eichel and Keller got minutes in college because their coaches knew that you don’t stifle talent, you let it shine. Mittelstadt on the other hand, got protected minutes all season because his coach believes in the upper classmen pecking order, which is one of the reasons why Lucia has a rep for not developing talent. Interesting that when they went into their final weekend vs Penn St, games they had to win to ensure better position to qualify for the NCAAs, Casey was given top line minutes and he flourished. I’d also argue that this Minnesota team came nowhere near having the kind of surrounding talent that Eichel and Keller enjoyed, either. Bottom line, Casey has a far better chance of developing his game away from Lucia and the Minnesota program.
  5. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all aboard the do whatever it takes to get Rosen at 2 train, but I think the Giants would be foolish to pass on him the more I think about it.
  6. In other words, Rosen. I get the feeling he already knows the Giants are gonna take Rosen after the Browns take Darnold and the rest of the prospects are so tightly rated it’s makes little sense for him to trade the farm when at least one of those prospects will fall. I think he moves into the top 10 at best. Chances are, somebody will be there at 12 even.
  7. Problem with Fitz’s arm is that he had to wind up from the hip to get any velocity. And when you have to triple hitch on a long out, it’s game over (cue up our 2012 opener vs. the Jets for several examples). There was a reason Lee had to break him down; his arm mechanics are crap.
  8. Bring the kid in. Lucia, who is rumored to hinder player development, is gonna get fired and Gophers hockey is ready to implode. What’s better: an uncertain college situation or signing for the rookie max deal, which was over 925k per year last I heard. If Clayton Keller could do it, there’s no reason Middlestadt can’t.
  9. This makes a ton of sense. And I can well imagine Beane and Gettleman having had a conversation where Gettlemen told him Rosen was their guy and, after thinking Darnold and Rosen are gone after 2, Beane and Co. just don’t see enough separation among the other top prospects to justify a big move. If the guy you want is gone, it’s not a bad idea to let the draft fall to you. The QB frenzy is going to result in several more highly ranked blue chip talent dropping down, after all.
  10. McCarron is going to hit the field and moon the fans? Helluva way to make an entrance. Shows a rare swagger indeed.
  11. Teams can talk themselves out of anything. There’s always too many holes to fill. But the depth of the perpetual QB hole is deeper than all the other holes combined. Time to go get one.
  12. I’m dumber just for reading the thread title.
  13. I think so, too. I would spend next year's 1 in order to keep a two this year.
  14. I see that. So 12, 21, and what else to get to two?
  15. Interesting thought here. If the Colts are looking for additional draft assets, 6 could still be in play for us and that would give us more ammo to make a deal with the Giants at 2 who would still be able to get one of the blue chip targets at the top of the draft.
  16. Giants are the target. It’s the only way to guarantee you get your man. It will cost a ton, including next year’s one, but that’s the price of doing business and well worth it for a QB.
  17. Blue chip prospect in the draft, not on a current roster. 12 is too far back for a team to get a blue chip prospect they want.
  18. Nuts, but not surprising. Like Buddy always said, everybody is trying to rob the same train. 'Tis the season for information warfare.
  19. It's not that dramatic. If Beane or anyone gets a whiff of an anti- Buffalo attitude in an interview, they won't waste their time. But nothing this kid has said publicly about where he wants to play suggests he won't want to play in a certain place. People point to his quote about going later in the draft if it's a better situation, but taken in context, that's a totally benign comment. Did I mention Bruschi is an idiot?
  20. Thank-you. I knew I forgot something.
  21. Bruschi is an idiot. If there is ANY chance Rosen has intimated he doesn't want to play in Buffalo, that will have been fleshed out long before they draft him. Did I mention Bruschi is an idiot? He should think more before spouting nonsense.
  22. Bold italics in large font. Suggesting a rare clarity of thought and foresight. Nice.
  23. You got that right. Anything less than a Super Bowl and their season will be considered a bust. No pressure there. I suspect Cousins will be speaking at a pitch two octaves higher if they struggle and the fans and media start getting antsy.
  24. Not from OBD, from PSE. If it were a case where Wood just up and retired, I’m sure they would have sought arbitration to recoup some bonus and then add it back to their cap. And Overdorf certainly looked at the possibilities. But because the retirement was forced due to injury and arbitration would most likely favor the player in that situation, it wasn’t worth pursuing. It’s not like a “Barry Sanders” rule scenario here. So the best the team could hope for in terms of the cap was to wait, waive him injured, and reach a favorable injury settlement with Wood. It’s my understanding that’s what they are doing.
