  1. Great point about trust, especially when that trust is placed in an inaccurate QB. But again, not running the route causes the entire route scheme to suffer.
  2. Well 3rd, that kind of makes the point, doesn’t it? Fear never stopped the likes of Andre Reed and others from venturing across the middle. Players can get hurt in any given play so fear needs to be managed and overcome. There’s also the element of how that route relates to the others run on a particular play as well. Route schemes are interdependent.
  3. I didn't hate any of those guys. The only problem I had with any of them was Evans' reluctance to run shallow crossers.
  4. This is a fair point, imo. Personally, I think the desire to see him at wideout speaks to his extraordinary athletic talent rather than what it says about his ability (or lack thereof) as a QB. And I fully supported his decision not to work out at the WR position at the combine.
  5. Per the bold text, that's just not true. If he were white and from Tennessee, he'd have the exact same question marks going coming out of college. There are legitimate concerns regarding his ability, just as there are for all the other prospects.
  6. Was the question followed by the qualifier, "Not that there's anything wrong with that."?
  7. I think he showed promise going back to his rookie year. He stretched defenses and even made EJ look good at times in doing so. I understand the frustration with his co-dedication to his track and field training, but I can't say that was simply a "hobby" for him. He was chasing a legitimate Olympic dream and I'm glad he had the full backing of the organization in that pursuit. We also could have tried to re-sign him but McDermott saw him as too much of an injury risk. Can't blame him for that, either.
  8. Quite frankly, the league hasn't seen another like Bruce Smith, not just us. We've also had two Pro Bowl DEs since as well. But all that is beside the point. When defensive end becomes the equivalent of QB in terms of importance then we'll see just as many threads devoted to that position.
  9. Lol. Beane is from North Carolina which means he is genetically precluded from saying anything fast ONCE, let alone 10 times.
  10. I’m a little skeptical of his bench reps given the use of a prosthetic device to compensate for his missing left hand. It would have been more impressive if he just held the bar in the middle with his one hand.
  11. Given the average life expectancy in the US, then yes, he should make it to 53 with plenty to spare. Statistically speaking, at least.
  12. This is a good point as it relates to the granularity with which these teams dig into certain QB issues. If the knock on a QB is completion percentage (which shouldn’t be confused with accuracy, btw) then scouts will look at EVERYTHING related to that issue. From route types (3, 5, 7 step drops) to game situation to protection breakdowns to the receivers to drops, etc., etc., etc., every possible contributor to completion percentage will be scrutinized.
  13. Well, with our great QB and WRs last year, we saw much less stacked boxes than Jax did. Doubt that will change much.
  14. Can’t believe defenses would dare Bortles to throw the ball!
  15. In terms of completion percentage, yes; in terms of ball placement, it’s Rosen hands down.
  16. You're correct about how often 40 yards are run over a straight line but that's not what they're looking for, necessarily. Split times are key as well as the endurance indicators over the course of that distance.
  17. Audience members aren’t “supposed” to anything. Take it as you will. I didn’t get bogged down in the plausibility aspects because they didn’t get in the way of my appreciation for a different aspect of the story. For me, it simply wasn’t about Rockwell’s or McDormand’s characters having to face the legal ramifications of their actions, it was about their sheer levels of anger that drove them to those actions in the first place. If the writer had chosen to tell their stories of facing the legal consequences, fine, but it would have been a different story entirely.
  18. I appreciate you pointing out the firsts used on Bledsoe and Losman during the time frame mentioned. Lazy reporting.
