  1. I am in agreement with the spirit of this post. And I agree, now is the time. However, I continue to maintain that we can't exclude trades of their first round draft slots for QBs: Rob Johnson for the their #9 pick in the '98 draft Drew Bledsoe for their #14 pick in '03 draft JP Losman for their #20 pick in the '05 draft And no, that's not splitting hairs. Those are examples of their actual first round investments in QBs over the years. No need to respond or start a tangent debate on the subject. Like I said, I agree with the spirit of your post.
  2. Nobody's gonna complain about the rookie not playing until our starter screws up.
  3. Well, in a draft projected to produce 70 starters in the league I agree, it's a great opportunity to infuse a roster with good, young talent. I just think the Giants are missing an opportunity to lock up the most important position for the next 10 years after Manning hangs 'em up.
  4. Davis’ haircut manages to make Gruden’s coif look good. That ain’t easy.
  5. Anything BUT house money. Those were OUR assets we gave up in order to acquire that additional draft capital; our investment in time and money on the players traded. No house money involved.
  6. He buys time, goes through progressions, and makes plays. Sure, sometimes he scrambles for yards but usually not before he's exhausted the possibilities.
  7. "Everybody's robbin' the same train." Buddy Nix Circa: forever
  8. I think you missed the part about being a playmaker in that profile above.
  9. Games have always been won between the ears. I could argue moreso in past eras when QBs called their own plays.
  10. Short and intermediate routes, no experience under center, average arm.
  11. And watch them several times over at that. Then break down every 3, 5, and 7 step drop while noting the route combinations and defensive alignment. Oh, and be sure to note the game situation for each event as well. That's a good start, anyway.
  12. It's all subjective evaluation. It's just that some is more informed than others. Zierlein et al just aren't in a position to put in the man hours required to fully evaluate these prospects. Heck, NFL teams still aren't finished with their due diligence and rankings at this point. That said, I think the Bills, Jest, and others have a prospect that's a clear front runner with everybody else tightly packed in the rankings.
  13. I think there's a lot of validity here. In a draft both deep in QBs and, according to some, with the top 70 prospects projecting as starters, this is a good year to have 6 picks in the first three rounds. While I'm in favor of trading up if their guy is there, I am also totally on board with McBeane letting the draft fall to them because of the unique opportunity to reshape the roster with young talent. But if they identify that guy at QB and he's there for the taking, they should spend the capital.
  14. I’m gonna laugh when we trade up to 6, Beane watches the QB feeding frenzy ensue, blue chippers fall, and he takes Chubb.
  15. Every few weeks we get another list of QB draft busts and every few weeks I have to repeat that, while interesting, it is totally irrelevant to this draft and these prospects and these teams.
  16. Eichel and Keller got minutes in college because their coaches knew that you don’t stifle talent, you let it shine. Mittelstadt on the other hand, got protected minutes all season because his coach believes in the upper classmen pecking order, which is one of the reasons why Lucia has a rep for not developing talent. Interesting that when they went into their final weekend vs Penn St, games they had to win to ensure better position to qualify for the NCAAs, Casey was given top line minutes and he flourished. I’d also argue that this Minnesota team came nowhere near having the kind of surrounding talent that Eichel and Keller enjoyed, either. Bottom line, Casey has a far better chance of developing his game away from Lucia and the Minnesota program.
  17. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all aboard the do whatever it takes to get Rosen at 2 train, but I think the Giants would be foolish to pass on him the more I think about it.
  18. In other words, Rosen. I get the feeling he already knows the Giants are gonna take Rosen after the Browns take Darnold and the rest of the prospects are so tightly rated it’s makes little sense for him to trade the farm when at least one of those prospects will fall. I think he moves into the top 10 at best. Chances are, somebody will be there at 12 even.
  19. Problem with Fitz’s arm is that he had to wind up from the hip to get any velocity. And when you have to triple hitch on a long out, it’s game over (cue up our 2012 opener vs. the Jets for several examples). There was a reason Lee had to break him down; his arm mechanics are crap.
  20. Bring the kid in. Lucia, who is rumored to hinder player development, is gonna get fired and Gophers hockey is ready to implode. What’s better: an uncertain college situation or signing for the rookie max deal, which was over 925k per year last I heard. If Clayton Keller could do it, there’s no reason Middlestadt can’t.
  21. This makes a ton of sense. And I can well imagine Beane and Gettleman having had a conversation where Gettlemen told him Rosen was their guy and, after thinking Darnold and Rosen are gone after 2, Beane and Co. just don’t see enough separation among the other top prospects to justify a big move. If the guy you want is gone, it’s not a bad idea to let the draft fall to you. The QB frenzy is going to result in several more highly ranked blue chip talent dropping down, after all.
