  1. Shoe size is a critical if often ignored factor for QBs. A bigger foot is much more effective for kicking the asses of underperforming linemen and receivers.
  2. Other than flat out saying he wouldn't, yeah, he would have stayed. Schwartz simply wasn't interested in staying unless he was promoted to HC. That simple. Besides, do you not see the potential toxicity of working for Rex Ryan and retaining a scheme that was foreign to the HC? With the entourage of Rex's sycophants in tow? Schwartz would have been miserable. He did the right thing by taking the time off, collecting his $2m and surveying the landscape before jumping back in.
  3. As long as it takes to know one way or the other. I like the old standard of 1,000 attempts.
  4. You may well be right. I'd still be shocked though. They are rivals in every sense of the word, the stadium cooperation not withstanding.
  5. When they interviewed Schwartz for the HC job he was asked if he would stay on as DC if he didn't get the job. He flat out told them no. That was more than a week before Rex was interviewed. Hiring Rex probably made it even easier for Schwartz to walk away but he couldn't do that until he was fired because he would have forfeited his $2m salary. Schwartz and Rex just isn't a good match. Rex is too much the blowhard.
  6. Decent player who wasn't yet back to 100% when McBeane parted ways with him. Just not a McD preference at the position. He wants guys that can move and cover. Never one of Ragland's strengths. He showed some glimpses last year and I wish the kid well.
  7. The NY Post Backpage is the least of it. There has always been a palpable friction between the two franchises since the Jets came into the AFL as the Titans in 1960. Rancor over players drafted by both leagues. Spite when Namath signed a record deal. It's an ingrained cultural disdain. But you're right, if the right deal could be made, perhaps bygones are bygones. I would just be shocked if that happened. Cold day in hell indeed.
  8. I've been trying to argue this point in another thread, which is why I'd much rather retain 22 this year and trade next year's 1 if it comes to that. And there aren't going to be all these QBs to push better players down next year, either. I keep hearing "but we are gonna suck and we will be picking in the top 10, yada yada yada." That makes little sense to me from the Bills perspective. Can you imagine the mindset that ingrains going into this season?
  9. That is a good line. Now we gotta get him to yell, "Omaha!", to really sell it.
  10. Completely understandable. After all, getting to the opponents QB is the second most important item next to getting your own franchise QB. It's a huge advantage when you have a pass rusher that can get to the QB by himself, too, without having to devote other resources and scheming to do so. That said, even if there is a guy like that in this draft, we need to get our QB. Now is the time.
  11. And he showed so many glimpses of greatness that the W/L record and poor stats were readily overlooked. That's going to be the key if we draft a guy and start him right away. If not, he's going to get roasted by the hot pocket fan base. Which is completely unfair and stupid, really.
  12. Can't see the Giants agreeing to deal with the Jets. Ever. I'd be shocked.
  13. So, Ryan O'Reilly is nominated for the Lady Byng? Shouldn't loving the game all the time be a qualifier? As good a two-way player as he is, as good a special teams player as he is, I would have no problem if JBots shipped his whiny, loser ass out of town.
  14. Moving from 12 to 9 will not cost 22. And given our extra picks in the second and third rounds, we wouldn't necessarily have to spend 22 to get to 7, either.
  15. OK, thanks for specifying. What is the LOS and what is the down and distance before the INT was thrown?
  16. What was the line of scrimmage when the QB threw the ball? Anything inside the 40 and that INT and touchback just took the offense out of FG range.
  17. I wasn’t insulting your understanding of schemes. Sorry if it came across that way. Operating from under center is a required skill. I will just let it go at that. He is a one read QB because all he has seen most of the time is a steady diet of some version of quarters zone coverage in college. So yeah, that’s a bigger concern making the jump.
  18. Although there are certain timing schemes that rely on snaps from under center, operating from under center is about more than just the passing game. It affords much more scheme flexibility when you can present varying alignments to a defense. Regardless, it is an aspect of the pro game that needs to be developed in QBs that have never done it. I’m sure Mayfield won’t have any problem eventually, but I suspect there will be bumps initially; on top of the bumps associated with learning the pro game anyway. In the system he’s coming from, he hasn’t seen the diversity in defenses on a week to week basis for instance. All I’m saying is, like most rookie QBs, I don’t think he’s a day one starter and I hope his development isn’t hurt by being forced to start before he’s ready.
  19. Too many teams would jump at the chance to get ahead of us at 12. Not to mention Miami at 11. I’d be shocked if Rosen fell to us. And if we like him that much then go up an insure you get him.
  20. Very true. Which is why I think he's more of a project for a year or two vs. a day one starter. If he goes to a market like New York and is forced to play from the get-go, he's gonna get roasted by the media and fans. It will be worse than Johnny Football's fall from grace in Cleveland in terms of the fans' patience. If he can go there and hold a clipboard while working on his game and learning to become a pro, I think he can flourish there.
  21. He probably is the "next most" ready to play. I don't dispute that. But there is only one QB in this draft that is, imo, ready from day one; Rosen. We'll have to hitch the wagon to McCarron until anybody else is ready. I can live with that, though.
  22. How about Milton Bradley? Either one will do.
