  1. You are definitely right about the earlier years shows. I saw them in 77 or 78 at Hollender Stadium in Rochester, although I enjoyed the concert as a whole, they sort of we're out of tune at times. A few years back I did what your doing, going through the shows in some order on the Archive.org, although your analysis is much better than what I took away from it all (I thought the shows were great, they were listened to as background, while I was doing paperwork for my business) My motivation for doing all this was that my wife brought home a box with about 60 bootleg cassette tapes that someone gave her when she was helping to clean out their dead husbands old belongings. The quality of the cassettes were horrible (They surely were not from the soundboards),but they motivated me to listen to the old shows.
  2. If the odds are 50/50. Jon Luc Ponty electric violin solo too!
  3. Ok, since we're drifting to the odd and unusual. This one is for you Muppy (you said you had a thing for Bass players) They were playing at one of the grassroots festivals, and the wife dragged me in because it sounded like something she could klogg to. I was dubious at first, but after a couple of songs, I came away thinking "man this guy is nuts" and that "I kind of like it".

  6. Nice job. I enjoy your analysis every week
  7. I liked Petty when he was with the traveling wilburys (they were a great band) here's one of my favorites. The empty rocking chair was for Roy Orbison right after he passed.
  8. Here's one from my nephews 1st band when he graduated college about 20 years ago. They were a funk/fusion/jazz rock band
  9. I am digging on the SRV and BB tunes. My wife is a huge Prince fan, me not as much, but I am impressed by his showmanship, and his prowess as a musician though. It was kind of funny the reaction from our daughters, when Prince passed. They both called their mother, within minutes of each other, to console her as if she had lost a close family member. She had already heard about his passing and it wasn't all that for her. I mean she was sad of course, but their concern for her emotional well being astounded me. I asked the girls later why they felt she would be that distraught, and they informed me of her obsession with Prince while they were little (before my time in the family, so I never knew about it) the next day I went out and got her a Prince t-shirt that she wears all the time. On a side note: this thread has me shuffling through old albums, and seeking out youtube vids as representations of favorite songs from these albums. Here's a live version of one from Pink Floyd's UmaGuma album Now that's a cool story.
  10. I don't think so, it looks like his dad was the inventor of the Super soaker (big squirt gun) though, which ironically, I find to be more amusing than being the tight ends kid. 😆
  11. Nice write up. Ok, I guess I'll add my thoughts too. On a dreary, rainy, early fall day with the Texans in Buffalo to play the Bills the scene was set. The oddsmakers had the Texans +17.5 points, and truly were not giving them any chance. If I were still betting on football, I probably would of taken the Texans and the points, even though I have a long standing rule to never bet against the Bills. Considering that the weather was so bad, I didn't think the Bills would be able to score a ton of points (I was wrong). I had watched the Thursday night game against the Panthers(who I consider to be a decent team this year), and Houston seemed to hold there own in the 1st half, with the the score being 7 - 6 at halftime. Houston's D line played well, they had a strip sack on Darnold, and the whole team played them tough overall. On offense the rookie QB Mills looked decent enough, and found Cooks numerous times for over 100 yds on the game. Well the Oddsmakers were right. Despite the weather having its way pouring sheets of rain down, and affecting both teams at the beginning, the Bills D just dominated, and by halftime it was pretty much all over for the Texans. (Even though Buffalo was only up 16 - 0) When I say the defense dominated, it is kind of an understatement, but I have run out of superlatives to describe what I am seeing this year from them. Despite being down 2 starters in the secondary, and losing Milano to a hammy midway , they never missed a beat. Edmonds (who I don't think has played badly this year, just not spectacularly) had that spectacular game . His excellent coverage in the middle led to his interception, while Milano put the pressure on the rookie QB to rush the throw. When Milano went out of the game, the next man up (Klein) filled in admiralbly with a tip, (which led to Hyde's interception), and a fumble recovery, when Edmonds (again) tied up the receiver, and Cam Lewis punched the ball out. BTW, Cam Lewis played very well after being elevated from the PS for the game, when T. Johnson was ruled out. (Might be tough to sneak him back on the PS, in case a CB needy team covets him) Props to J Johnson (the other Bill's Johnson), who also played well, and added an interception later . Even Matakevich got in on the fun in garbage time with a pick of his own. Star and Boogie had sacks, and the pressure was decent all day, pushing Mills to make bad decisions. As toJosh, after starting out the game with an interception on a throw that sailed over Digg's head (in the pouring rain), and was picked off by #1 of the Texans, Allen settled down and had a decent, albeit mediocre game. He made some great throws and missed some too. I'll accept these type games from him as long as we won, because that is all that truly will be remembered in the end, is the W. I thought both Moss and Singletary were good in the running game. They both quickly and decisively hit the holes today. Moss is shifty, and never gives up. Props to 79 Spencer Brown ,the man mountain, for throwing him forward for extra yards at the end of the one run. Singletary had more yds total, but also found the doghouse for a bit with the fumble, he redeemed himself later in the game with timely runs (he had a great run called back because of a hold on Williams). Allen gets props for his rushes too, especially the sneak he turned up outside for the big gain. I loved the stiff arm as he was going out of bounds, he tackled the tackler Lol. All told, I believe they finished with around 200 yards rushing total as a team. The reshuffled oline had their struggles, mostly on the left side, with heavy pressure coming from that side early in the game. Dawkins whiffed a couple times on his man. although Williams didn't look great either at right guard(see penalty on Singletarys rush above),and he was shaky in pass pro again early in the game. They seamed to settle in as the game went on though. Brown looked ok at right tackle. The question is what becomes of Cody Ford, will he be back at right guard?, or did Williams do enough to unseat him. All told they had Allen running around way too much, it's amazing he made such a good throw to Diggs down the sideline earlier in the game, while scrambling and leaping in the air. Diggs had his breakout game of the young season, with Allen connecting with him numerous times for over 100 yds, and on a couple of beautiful long throws to boot. Sanders had good day as well and had a few nice receptions. Although Beasley (2 receptions on 2 targets) and Davis (0 for 1) were relatively quiet, Dawson Knox had 5 receptions on 8 targets and 2 TDs, and had some monster blocks in the game.( Err....aren't you glad we didn't trade for "you know who" now. I know I am) Knox even got # 1(another Johnson) on the Texans to lose his composure and draw a penalty for unsportsman like conduct. Knox had tackled him on the sidelines on the play after #1 thought he had picked up a fumble on a supposed Diggs catch (however it was ruled an incompletion as the ball had hit the ground,so no fumble) . # 1 was pissed at Knox because he shoved him hard out of bounds on the tackle. # 1 then tried to get western with knox, and pushed him down when the play was over, (nice flop by knox),and the Zebra threw the flag. However as karma will have it , that started a series of bad plays by the Bills though. The very next play Diggs did fumble on a sweep, and the Bills recovered. The play after that Allen nearly had a pass intercepted, and instead of getting in the end zone the Bills had to settle for the field goal. Props to Bass on FGs and the extra points, he made them all. BTW, # 1 seemed like the best, and most active player on the Texans D, too bad he lost his mind on that play, because I believe he is a good player and played well for them otherwise. Anyway, by the end of the 3rd quarter, the Bills had the game sewed up, the score was 19 - 0, and the Texans were done. The Bills scored 2 more TDs in the 4th and then sent in the 2nd string with 10 minutes or so left to score 1 more, and the Texans at that point were probably feeling pretty much like the folks in the lyrics of the old Carpenters song: Rainy Days and Mondays "Talkin' to myself and feelin' old Sometimes I'd like to quit Nothing ever seems to fit Hangin' around Nothing's to do but frown Rainy Days and Mondays (after a devastating loss) always get me down On to Kansas City, go Bills!
  12. I thought I'd go through some of the old vinyl looking for some forgotten gems. I picked out these cuts because I haven't heard them in a while. Smoke em if ya got em, and turn the volume up.
  13. Yes it is a cruel world When you're tryin' to get by It's a cruel world When you've seen the look in their eye Makes life hard living But I'm so scared to die Welcome to the cruel world Welcome Welcome
  14. You can bet your bottom dollar She's gonna get on that soapbox and hollar. You can do your best, to keep it close to the vest Until she grabs ya by your collar
  15. The New Orleans music scene is unique across all genres. I never fully appreciated it until recently, there are a bunch of taleted musicians down there. Here's a video of a band we found a few years ago, the wife and I really liked. Terry Bozzio was an awesome drummer,(Zappa always had the best musicians). One of my favorite Zappa albums was live at the Fillmore.(1971) I liked the banter between him and Frank, during the whole groupie routine, it was totally hilarious. I have actually found myself through the years quoting snippets from the routines on the album. You either get a nod from those who know it, or that "what's a matter with that guy" look if they don't. 😆
  16. It’s all going to pot Whether we like it or not Best I can tell The world’s gone to hell And we’re all gonna miss it a lot All the whiskey in Lynchburg, Tennessee Just couldn't hit the spot I gotta hundred dollar bill You can keep your pills, friend It’s all going to pot I gotta hundred dollar bill You can keep your pills, friend Cause it’s all goin' to pot
  17. Another great show in 74 was Weather Report and Earth Wind. And Fire.(that show the people I went with bought my ticket). I didn't know that I liked jazz until that show. Weather Report was awesome, and. EW&F (who I knew and. I wanted to see) totally blew me away. It was one of the best concerts i had ever seen.
  18. Well, that's just amazing, too bad you didn't get in you missed a good show. I grew up across the river and about a 1/2 mle down the road from the war Memorial. If I knew you back then, I could of shown you how to sneak in the back where the bands and their guests entered, because that's what we did. Apparently we are the same age and when you were 14 back then you couldn't get a real job, so you were relegated to being a moocher or sneaking in. When I was older and had a job I would always pay for a ticket, I mean concert tickets were only like 6-7 bucks back then anyway.
  19. Just a side note, my 1st encounter with Nazareth came as they were the opening band for Deep Purple in 1974, at a concert at the Rochester War Memorial. Those bands were so loud my ears were ringing for a week. No wonder the wife says I don't listen to her when she talks.
  20. So true as to having quality equipment, I am ashamed to say most of my listening today comes thru the sound bar on the tv. When I do peruse the vinyl (I have about 1000 albums) I listen on my old pioneer solid state amp and klh bookshelf speakers, so hardly the same.
  21. I remember when he passed away they played a bunch of Bruce and E Street band, I really was never a big Bruce fan, but he did have an excellent band. You should be proud to have been related to CC.
  22. This reminded me of listening to a hawkwind album (I don't remember the name of the album, and I'm too lazy to look for it) I had when I was a kid. I had an old Marantz tube amp and advent tower speakers and would turn it up about half way (any louder it would of shook the windows loose) any way this cut reminded me as a cross between that album and Nazareth's version of the ballad of hollis brown.
  23. Everybody's a dreamer and everybody's a star, And everybody's in movies, it doesn't matter who you are. There are stars in every city, In every house and on every street, And if you walk down Hollywood Boulevard Their names are written in concrete!
  24. Interesting symphonic version of Baby Got Back. I like the Stones clip, I saw them in 78 or 79 in Rich Stadium (drove all the way back from Phoenix). We all lived on whiskey sours, Miller beer and crunch & munch, for a couple of days.
  25. Frank Zappa was my hero when I was a teenager. I bet I saw him at least 6 or 7 times back then. I have about 10 of his albums. I remember the celebrity theater that was a great venue (saw Rick wakeman from Yes there, he was awesome in the round). I saw quite a few shows at firebird lake (Stevie Nicks dad operated that venue). I don't remember the mesa amphitheater, I lived in North central Phoenix, and didn't get further east of Tempe much. I used to be the catering manager at Westworld (for a short minute) in Scottsdale, so I worked some of the concerts they had there.(Sawyer Brown was the most memorable) I also saw Ted Nugent there on the polo field for 5 bucks before I started working there. My wife does the low impact exercise (line dancing) at the senior center, while she dances I walk the track. I don't recall the Marty Mitchell band, I lived in Phoenix from 78 to 93, and dated a girl who was a DJ from the progressive rock station KSTM for a little bit. She was always getting tickets to shows for free from the radio station, so I was fortunate enough to see quite a few bands while we were dating.
