The New Media Narrative against Romney/Ryan

The Mainstream Media isn't gonna slip one by you..... Good Job- -
I tend to be a free market, earn it yourself kind of guy, and believe in live and let live. I guess I lean more toward a Libertarian platform of small government, states rights, defense that is actually defense, and letting people keep more of the money and freedom, inspiring them carve out their American Dream. My biggest divergence is Healthcare, I support the ACA, but only because it, im my mind, creates more Freedom for me... I have gone on ad nauseum in my defense of healtare reform even though I feel like it could have been done at the State Level very easily... heck Mass did it... my healthcare syance makes me a big of a hypocrit, but that is ok, I am fine with it... LOL As for the Tea Party- yeah, I guess I support most of their aspirations. There just isn't justification for some of the things the Federal Government gets involved in.... one of my favorite blabbering points right now is the 70,000 page tax code... my god the Fed Govt has to be massive to need a 70K page document to collect and redistribute money from its citizens.... as far as SS, Medicare, Medicaid, Education, Healthcare and a long laundry list of other items, States can work that stuff out for themselves.... I don't know, I used to vote for Republicans. Then I stated voting for Democrats. As of right now, it doesn't feel that much different. I was really hoping Ron Paul would have been a bigger part of the picture.... but he is not pretty enough, sexy enough or eloquunetly a speaker to have a chance though... but you have to love what he says if you believe Government is of the people, not the other way around. It is my contention that D and R's have a vested interest in the status quo, if they did not, whay would Government not me smaller?

Republicans and Democrats have been Net Expanders of Federal Government Power, that is undeniable. They both talk about cutting and scaling back, but it always grows and grows on once, way shape or form. In a land of Freedom and Choice, is it Ironic that we have only to choose the lesser of two evils?

I am suprised how many people I know who have remarked that this is a big deal from them. and there is no partisan divide to it. in reality, those specific concerns should have been weighing on your mind since the Tech Bubble.... some people were fooled and got confident in the Housing Boom, but anyone with a nugget realized was a bubble. Stick to the fundamentals of tempered risk in life and investing, you will be just fine.

Broken record here Rob, for me Healthcare.... after reform of some sort if safe and in place, we can begin to aggresively look at Welfare, SS, Medicare, War Department, Tax Code, and dismantling things that just don't work. BTW, how is the back?

Who Should pay Federal Income taxes & how much
B-Large replied to BuffaloBorn1960's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Considering the Federal Tax code is 72,000 pages long, I have been liking the idea of a flat tax more and more. The loopholes, deduction, credits, etc have become an avenue for more Government control over the behavior of Americans.... it is also how elelcted officials shower thier favoritism and goodies, and how people with power carve out exception that help their specific interests. Push as many program to the State as legally possible... I don't know what rate would achieve Flat Tax goal, whether it is something like Herman Cain proposed, or whether it is a graded flat rate based on income levels... but there HAS to be a simpler way that 72K pages.... you don't have to jobless to benefit from the myriad of social assistance programs... there are alot of working poor how get food stamp and healthcare provided because they don't make enough/ get a group plan through their employment. -
Ok, so its confirmed and humans are to blame... so the question is, what are we willing to do about it? - People freak their !@#$ing **** when unleaded pops up 10 cents a gallon... are these people willing to sdopt cleaner more efficient tech for 2x, 3x, 4x the price if not more? - Are Americans willing to go the grocery store, where they also freak about price flectuation and pay substancially more because their pork and beans where delivered and manufactured using more expensive "green" tech? - Nuclear power is very efficient, clean, and safe- but everybody says not in my backyard. - The Government is basically almost broke, do we think they will be able to subsidize all this to make it essentially no cost to Americans (except the cost is in tax and borrowing) - Are we willing to be uncompetitive with countries who don't care about pollution? I don't think many are denying the issue at hand, the ice caps are melting and they have photo evidence, the contention is solving the problem....

It's humourous, technically. I wonder if the young father laying in our ICU donwstairs who lost an eye and sits in a COMA with perhaps permanent brain damage, whose wife just gave birth to their child, would find it funny or not? I have a great joke about his mutli-million dollars hospital bills and how his wife is scrapping money together to stay in denver to take of her husband while nursing the baby- Funny, Dane, Funny....

https://www.cfda.gov/downloads/CFDA_2011.pdf There are 2,839 pages of places to consider.... LOL.... there is 10-15% in there to cut out easily without anyone dying in the streets... I promise

We are on divert almost daily- divert, when the ED is so full we route emergency pateints to other facilities because we have no beds for them. We have a new 400M building that wil be open on spring 2013... 300+ new beds..... Healthcare, its the place to be... we literally cannot keep up.... I don't know if that is looked at as a good thing, or a bad thing... depends where you stand I guess!

I think that is what is so concerning, B. If this was a short-term issue and the economy woudl be back cranking and popping of the tax revenue, I would not be as worried (That does not mean we can't cut back, way back..) But, I just get this feeling this is going to be our monkey on the back for a long time.... right now, we should be cutting back non-essentials since it does not look like fiscal stimulus or expanding credit is not going to help much....

Are you guys "budget guys" so to speak

you hijacking son of a B word! My wife has a history of cancer, Wilms Tumor as a kid- she is uninsurable for any kind of individual health insurance or life insurance, that is before the ACA was passed. All we want is to be able to purchase catastrpohic coverage IF she has a recurrance of cancer and need extensive treatment.... Heck, I even understand that we would be rated higher dut to risk, that does not bother me one bit.. We plan start out own business in the next few years, it wil be hard for us to do that if one of us has to stay at a job because of group coverage. you're smart keeping Health Ins, but REALLY smart keeping that Disability... I keep as much Dis Ins throught work both short and long-term as possible.. you never know, and like you, I don't want to be a burden on others to support me... that is my freaking resposinbility.. Socialized Medicine- sounds great in theory, in delivery from a logistical standpoint, from a admin standpoint... BUT... it tends to alocate cost controls and other expense devices that take the incentive to innovate and make money out of the equation... as much as people DO NOT want to hear it, it is good people can make money in Healthcare. You don't get Cancer Therapies, Robotic Surgical Modalties or for cripes sakes Lipitor if there is no money to be made and incentive to do so... its why we have the best treatments here, even if our delivery system is dusjointed and inefficient. as for the ACA- it keeps the private insurance market, and overlays on the existing heathcare environment. Its the perfect fit... except for the, oh, 3900 pages of BS that is not needed to achieve these goals: 1. Citizens need to carry insurance coverage 2. Citizens can buy a cadillac plan, or they can buy a high deductible Catastrophic plan... they pick something that fits their budget, their needs 3. Incentives to get healthly and use less (not sure what those are) The bill does not need to be 4000 pages, it can be more simplified and be much less intrusive in the lives of Americans.... Rob, I hope your surgery goes well, man. Back related injury is awful, people don't realize how much a bulging disk hurts... to a safe surgery and full recovery -

It's the "we've seen it both ways and get crappy results" argument. Guys like Ron Paul are a different option. Not that he could get a ton done since there is a whole other legislative mess to navigate, but the things he believes in a very different that the candidates we are looking at in November. -

I assume he is going to endorse and carry out much of what is detailed in the proposed Ryan budget. At this point, I think Americans are going to get real wiht the fact that no program, no service, not Government entity is "hold harmless" or off limits. The simple fact is most people do not want to the pay the taxes that are neccesary to support the Government we currently run today... I don't disgree with those people, nobody likes paying taxes especially when the programs don't bebenfit them directly. Some programs are probably good public policy, but by no means do those programs have to stay in place as the exist today. Romney- I don't know if he has the gumption to B word-slap the entrenched Washington gridlock and establishment... we may get the chance to see. I will not vote for a Republican based on Heathcare, its that plain and simple. Once I know I can buy insurance even with existing condtions, then I will consider voting for an aggressive fiscal aggitator.... -

sigh... stagnant wages for 30 years, cc debt boom, school loan debt boom, illiquid leverage traps for many homeowners..... it seriously may take another decade to get back to where we were. I have to ask, what possible reason do aggregate spenders have to go out and repeat the past? I am beginning to think more and more we, the US and its government need to go through a massive, long-term belt tightening... all non-essential program, done. Feel the pain for our years of decadence, and come out stronger in the end. We may be facing that Piper we have been talking about for 20 years, and there may be no more road in which to kick the can....

Wow, the press it out of control...... This could not be any more of a non story....
