The J6 Hostages Freedom Thread: Justice Is Coming
B-Man replied to BillsFanNC's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I'm just now getting up to speed on the problems at DOC in the District. This is UNBELIEVABLE. These defendants now have a civil rights suit against DC. The pardon's were dated yesterday - 1/20. Any lawful authority to keep a defendant in custody ended at 11:59 pm. Beyond that it was an "unlawful seizure" in violation of the 4th Amendment. Defendants are housed at DOC under a contract with the U.S. Marshal's Service because there is not U.S. Govt holding facility in DC. The U.S. Marshal for the District of Columbia is a Presidential Appointee, and the USMS is part of the Justice Department. So, what is apparently happening now is the Trump DOJ has directed the USMS to go into the DOC and physically remove those J6 defendants still being held. If I was giving the instructions, I would have DOC officials removed in handcuffs and taken across the river to EDVA to be held pending a investigation into Sec. 242 violations. As Sen. Lee posted yesterday -- maybe it is time for Congress to revisit "Home Rule" in DC. -

The quiver is empty. Everyone knows that he made that motion. Everyone (with a brain) knows that it was not intended as a nazi salute. But when you have been shown that your ideas are wrong, you still stick with them. Sad. . -

The New Look for the Trump Oval Office - What Stayed and What Is Gone As the peaceful transfer of power takes place between presidential administrations on Inauguration Day, a lot of changes get made on the fly. While one family moves out and another moves in, decor and family possessions get switched out in a matter of hours. But it is not only the residential quarters for the First Family that gets a makeover. The most famous office in the world gets a speedy transformation as well. So, is President Trump keeping anything from Joe Biden's Oval Office decor in his Oval Office? The Oval Office conveys something about the current occupant, but more than that, it is a place that must convey American strength and the importance of the Office of the President of the United States. It is a place where the President greets foreign heads of State, Congressional leaders and addressed the nation. The art chosen is one way to do that. For Donald Trump, some of those works of art include a portrait of George Washington over the fireplace, replacing the sizable portrait of Franklin Delano Roosevelt that Biden had hung there. On one side of that portrait hangs another of Alexander Hamilton, America's first Treasury Secretary, and on the other side, a portrait of Thomas Jefferson. Returning to the "Oval" is a bust of Winston Churchill that Joe Biden had removed when he took over in 2021. There is also a bust of Martin Luther King, Jr. that is a favorite of both Biden and Trump and will remain in the Oval Office. On the mantel sits two new silver eagle figures. Most Presidents like to decorate their version of the Oval Office with items that highlight the values and goals of their administration. Trump's Oval Office also includes portraits of Benjamin Franklin and Andrew Jackson. During Trump's first term, he had a portrait of Jackson, the nation's seventh President, on loan from the U.S. Naval Academy. The 2025 version is from the White House art collection. Joe Biden selected the portrait of Franklin for his focus on science. Donald Trump has opted to keep it. A portrait of Jackson also hung in Ronald Reagan's Oval Office. Even more mundane details like the Oval Office rug, a blue one that Joe Biden had under the Resolute Desk, was exchanged for a more neutral color for Trump. Another returning item from Trump's first term is a sculpture called "The Bronco Buster" by Frederic Remington. Behind the Resolute Desk are flags from all branches of the military, flags that were removed during Joe Biden's time in office. Gold curtains were installed for Trump's first term, and Biden kept those and they will remain. Joe Biden also kept a bust of Robert F. Kennedy in the Oval Office. Trump has removed that and gone one better, nominating Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services. https://redstate.com/beckynoble/2025/01/21/the-new-look-for-the-trump-oval-office-what-stayed-and-what-is-gone-n2184606 .

Back to the thread. Today on Capitol Hill... With Inauguration Day in the books, the Congress critters are back to work on the Hill on Tuesday. (Actually, the Senate got back to work Monday afternoon, sending several of President Donald Trump's nominees out of committee, confirming Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, and passing the Laken Riley Act, but today offers a full day for Congressing.) There are a couple more confirmation hearings set for Tuesday: Doug Collins - Secretary of Veterans Affairs - Veterans Affairs - 10:00 AM Eastern Elise Stefanik - UN Ambassador - Foreign Relations - 10:00 AM Eastern Other hearings/meetings set include: Senate Finance - Meeting to consider Scott Bessent's nomination for Treasury Secretary House Rules - Meeting to consider the Fix Our Forests Act and the Laken Riley Act White House What's Up I cannot tell you how phenomenal it feels to be writing this section about President Trump and not his predecessor. He and First Lady Melania, along with Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha, will attend the National Prayer Service at Washington National Cathedral Tuesday morning. After that? Well, we're not sure yet — the comms and calendar aspects of the new administration are still getting up and running, but we can expect it to be an action-packed day. https://redstate.com/smoosieq/2025/01/21/tuesday-morning-minute-the-first-full-day-n2184616

JONATHAN TURLEY: The final corruption of Joe Biden. With only 15 minutes to go as president, Joe Biden snatched infamy from the jaws of obscurity. With record-low polling and widely viewed as a “failed” president, Biden completed his one-man race to the bottom of ethics by issuing preemptive pardons to members of his own family. The pardons were timed to guarantee that the media would not focus on yet another unethical act by this president. He need not have worried. For four years, the media worked tirelessly to deny or deflect the corruption scandal surrounding the Biden family. The pardoning of James Biden, Sara Jones Biden, Valerie Biden Owens, John Owens and Francis Biden brought an inescapable clarity to the corruption of what is known in Washington as Biden Inc. Exit quote: Biden sealed his legacy with a finality that escapes most presidents. While his diminished mental capacity will remain an issue for historians, his longstanding lack of ethics was conclusively established with these pardons. It was Biden’s final act of corruption. Inauguration Day - President Donald J Trump

Remember the usual suspects here making fun of Trump meeting with this pastor in Detroit ? I do. Watch: Detroit Pastor Lorenzo Sewell's Prayer at Trump's Inauguration Was One for the Books By Brandon Morse If you've never heard of Lorenzo Sewell before, you definitely know him now. Pastor Sewell is the head pastor at the 180 Church on Detroit's west side. He's a man who isn't afraid to put political themes in his sermons as he is of the mind that the Bible is, in fact, a political book with a political message. “The gospel message is a political message. The Bible is a political book, from Genesis to Revelations. We see that the Bible is a political book,” Sewell told Fox News. “It is impossible to be politically neutral.” Sewell hosted Trump at his church for a roundtable discussion back in June, and it was there that Sewell gave an impromptu prayer that affected Trump enough to tell him that he would give a prayer at his inauguration. "He said you prayed that way for me, at the inauguration, you'll be there," Sewell said according to ABC affiliate WYXZ-TV in Detroit. When it came time to plan Trump's inauguration, Sewell got the call, and it would bring him to tears "When I received the phone call, I started crying. I cried because I feel like Jesus wants me to do something Monday. I don't believe this is about me. I think this is about people that are hurting in Detroit," Sewell said. He feels like Detroit has been forgotten and overlooked for a while, and that's who he wants to speak up for. "It has nothing to do with Lorenzo. It has nothing to do with my church or my relationship with President Trump. It has everything to do with those who are voiceless. Now, they get a voice," Sewell said. Fast-forward to Monday, and Sewell stepped up to the microphone, and in the same vein as Martin Luther King Jr., whose celebrated day just so happened to fall on Trump's inauguration, the Detroit pastor gave a prayer that had people in tears. There were some stand-out moments to be sure, but Sewell's prayer really grabbed people's attention: https://redstate.com/brandon_morse/2025/01/20/watch-detroit-pastor-larenzo-sewells-prayer-at-trumps-inauguration-was-one-for-the-books-n2184591 -
