If he comes out the first TE likely off the draft board would be Zach Miller. He's good and likley to draw comparisons to Todd Heap due to both being from ASU yet it's rare that a rookie make an impact at the position and be a reach if took him in the top 20 of the draft.

Coleman is indeed a light guy, he clocks in at 285, and been one of the best pass rushing DTs in the league having registering double digit sack total in 2004 and 2005 however this year his numbers are down as has only 3.5 going into today.
Dielman will be an UFA after this season and is among those on my short list for possible OG to sign.
Here's a link to site with a good list of 2007 NFL Free Agents
The Bills rush defense has actually improved in terms of yards per game. Granted it's only 2 yards but we're not as bad as other teams as last year we ranked 31st this year we're 27th. While I agree we have to work on stopping the run next year let's not forget we'll hopefully have McCargo for a whole season next year and the team will be in their 2nd year under the current system and will hopefully improve. As stated in other threads I don't foresee us heavily pursuing a top flight DT in free agency or using a high pick there but would be in favor of going after a guy like Ian Scott of the Bears to replace Tim Anderson.

I'm not sure how you can attribute our losing to our letting CB's leave (the more likely causes are poor coaching and poor line and QB play). The Eagles employ the same strategy in drafting CB's and they've been pretty successful.
Why pay a free agent CB top dollar when you can get a 1st or 2nd round draft pick who is just as good at half the money? I say draft a guy in the first round to replace Clements. And when the new guy's contract comes up, draft another 1st round CB replacement. The difference is probably b/w a $3 mill signing bonus and a $15 mill bonus--staggering!
The Eagles are also wise enough to draft their guys a year ahead of time to see if the drafted player is good enough to be replacements. That's why I'm advocating for Youboty to get on the field. As much as we think CBs are easy to be replaced we've been fortunate with getting guys we've gotten because there's a risk involved that instead of getting a "Nate" you could also end up with an "Ahmad Carroll".

If looking for a replica you can get one at NFLshop.com or if want can also get authentics there too.

True and don't forget that nickel/part time starter Kiwaukee Thomas is also set to be a free agent too, personally I hope we re-sign Nate to a long term deal. Although if I were the coaching staff I'd start getting Youboty some game time to see if he is worth consider as a replacement for Nate or Thomas as we might not re-sign both.

Not only was he drafted late but he also started his career in the CFL. One has to wonder what the Chiefs brass was thinking as he had a great year in the CFL but caught a grand total of 18 receptions his first three NFL seasons. He then had a "breakout" year in his fourth season when he grabbed 35 balls. He then signed with the Saints and became a star.

According to his NFLPA.org website Henry is under contract through 2009.
Johnson definately giving the Bills a receiving threat at TE yet unsure Marv be so fast to sign another UFA after getting Royal last year.
Pryce has a connection to Jauron with their days in Chicago but to me he's a depth player as he's on the other side of 30 and rather we pursue younger guys like Ian Scott if looking for a DT to replace Tim Anderson and/or compete for a starting spot with McCargo.

Though it also gave the name Darren Howard, I hate beating a dead horse but had we taken him instead of Erik Flowers I'd imagine things be quite different today.

I've said as much in numerous other threads in the past. With my most recent explanation in a thread entitled Most underated Bill of the last 25 years
Those that haven't read it, here's a copy
Aaron Schobel. The fact remains that Schobel is underrated by both the league and Bills fans in general. Many like to compare him to Phil Hansen but the reality he is far superior. As Schobel's collected 46.5 sacks in 80 career games, compare that to Hansen's 61.5 in 156 games and then tell me who's the better pass rusher. He's also surpassed Hansen in interceptions and forced fumbles and only 2 pass defensed behind again despite playing nearly half as many career games. I know someone will retort Hansen was a better run stuffer, well his stats due support this as he averaged 4.06 tackles per game compare that to Schobel's 3.73. To put that in perspective, over a season that amounts to 5.28 more tackles per season hardly a sifnificant difference if ask me. While Aaron will never be a Bruce Smith, a once in a lifetime (ie true franchise player) he very well could be the 2nd best DE we've ever hadTo update the stats, Schobel's up to 55 sacks in 91 games. Both have 20 passes defensed. Schobel's tackles per game are down to 3.30.

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio."
Well, I am from Pennsylvania and have been told I have a good voice....pretty damn accurate!
I got the same ranking yet I was born and raised in Buffalo. Of course my dad's from Indianapolis (even though that's more central then southern Indiana) so maybe I picked up some of his accent.
-
Freeney's going to be out of our price range. Besides that he plays Right DE just like Schobel, what we need to do is re-sign Chris Kelsay to a cap friendly deal. Of course I think you're on to something that Hargrove might have been brought in to succeed Kelsay.
In terms of priorities/needs are to try and maintain what we already have on D, as that's the strength of this team right now and improve the offense.
My short list is:
Re-sign Nate Clements
Re-sign and/or find a UFA replacement for London Fletcher
Sign a quality LG, I know Steinbach is a popular name but a guy like Vince Manuwai (Jags) might also be somone pursuing.
Re-sign Chris Kelsay
Depending on how the Peters/Pennington experiment goes, draft a OT on day 1 of the draft someone on day 1 of the draft to play OT if either fails.
Draft someone on day 1 to replace Chris V.
Draft a compliment to Lee Evans on day 1 of the draft preferably another WR but if a quality TE is there then go for a TE.

Haynesworth anyone? And if your going to say no, don't say because " He's not a character guy", that's total bs, sure what he did was pretty repulsive but I dont think you can expect him to act up like that again. Hes only 26, and stands a 6'6,320, and is one hell of an athlete for his size, he can get upfield and pressure the QB. I know we like this smaller, quick DT's but at some point you need some size and girth, and hey, lets be honest, our DL could use a little bit of attitude as well, what do you think
I don't see management actively seeking a starting DT. As they got one last year in Triplett and likely feel that McCargo/Williams are quality 1/2 which means we might be in lines for a back up/competition for Tim Anderson. A guy that might be smart to target be Bears' Ian Scott.
-
Take a look at the NFL's depth chart there aren't many quality veteran QBs that likely will be available. The "best" might be Damon Huard.
I agree with you despite being one that was calling for us to take Schaub in the draft. Why? He has yet to prove he's an NFL starting QB anymore then JP has. Also maybe it's better that we try and develop JP when consider the only QB this franchise ever really developed was Joe Ferguson (as much that came here came developing with other teams/leagues) and that took him three full seasons of playing time.
-
First of all, Brady Quinn is nothing like JP Losman.
Second, he will be the best rookie QB (at least in the immediate) because of his experience in a pro-style offense with a great offensive coach playing against great college defenses.
Third, I probably wouldn't spend a top 5 pick on him. I just don't think he can make all the throws to be a great NFL QB and he has lapses of concentration. His deep ball is mediocre and his short ball often lacks touch. That being said, he can drop an intermediate throw into 6 inch pocket, I've seen it many times.
Fourth, the Bills would be a TERRIBLE fit for him, unless they do something about the offensive line. He was untouched last year (except against Ohio St.) and he was surgical with the football. When he is hurried, he is half the QB. I know this goes for almost all QBs, but I just don't see Quinn making plays when Melvin Fowler or Duke Preston play Ole with DTs. Plus, his one fatal flaw in this regard may be holding on to the ball too long. It hasn't been an obvious problem at ND because it is rare that he has serious pressure. But he could be Losman/RJ-esque if he constantly has pressure.
Fifth, despite everything I just said, drafting him (or any QB) in the top 5-10 might actually do this team some good. I think if Marv and Co. invested in a QB so high, that they would be forced to get him protection. If Levy thought he was getting another Kelly, you best believe he would push hard for another Wolford, Davis, Hull, Richter, Ballard line. So maybe this could be a blessing in disguise. And if we did draft a QB, I'd want it to be Quinn.
Brady Quinn is most likely a better QB then JP Losman yet at the same time I wouldn't take him if the Bills were in position to draft him next year. As would much rather see us build up in other areas such as O-line and a complimentary WR and/or make up for potential free agent losses (see Fletcher and/or Clements) in the early part of the draft. At the same time I'd also draft a QB in the middle to compete with JP next year. I've stated in another thread that Kevin Kolb is on my short list.
One quote about him that to me, means alot is
It was made by former Bills QB coach Steve Kragthorpe who happened to be around during Bledsoe's best season here. He's also went onto have some pretty good success being Tulsa's head coach.Kevin Kolb is an excellent quarterback. Not only can he throw the ball with tremendous accuracy, he moves well in the pocket and finds lanes to deliver the ball. You couple that with his ability to scramble and run; gosh, he's hard to defend. -
I've always felt you take a QB later than sooner in a draft so be looking for guys that might be available in Round 3 or later. One guy I have my eye on is Kevin Kolb. I'm a little weary because he's from a small school conference (infact it's the same conference JP came from) yet he's been a 4 year starter and he's a more accurate passer then JP was.

Wilson should be considered if Reed is going to be out. Although we might want to look over the waiver wire/free agents to replace Chris V. Ross I know Ross Tucker's still out there. Another veteran OG to consider could be Tom Nutten, who Levy should be familiar and has ties to Steve Fairchild in St Louis.

Tom D's choices in 2005 draft 2nd round -Parrish, 3rd round - Everett. Might have given some thought to actually drafting some O lineman in those spots, especially when, at that time, are O line was in such horrible shape that he had to sign a guard, cut by the Bears, (gandy) to be our LEFT TACKLE. I don't care if Parrish runs a 4.0 forty, if the QB doesnt have time to throw, whats the difference. And Everett has done nothing.
5 years of drafts and TD leaves us with a O line much worse than the one we had when he got here. Nice job.
At the same time he drafted guys like Clements and Schobel for the D. He was also able to draft and wisely locked up Crowell. Then instead of overspending for a now journeyman LB Sam Cowart was able to get Fletcher. Not to mention shored up STs by adding Schneck, Mooreman and Lindell through FA and of course drafted McGee.
-
To me JP has brought out the worst in Doug and Rob. In that he has Rob's physical skills yet he seems to take a sack at the wrong time and at the same time is like Doug in that he turns the ball over. That said I'm still hoping he can turn it all around by seasons end. Though my patience is wearing thin week by week.

Once bitten, twice shy?
Like any of these better?
If we end up with pick 12 then guys among my short list are:
Sam Baker LT USC: Move Peters back to RT and take Baker to have bookend tackles for the next 5 seasons.
Dwayne Jarrett WR USC: I like WR Calvin Johnson better but doubt he'd fall out of the top 5 so take the 2nd best WR in the class. At 6'5' 215# he has the size to be the perfect compliment to Lee Evans.
Paul Posluszny LB Penn State: It might not be a popular decision but we might want to consider Takeo for the sake of retaining London Fletcher leaving a hole at OLB. Posluszny is the best LB in the draft and isn't a reach at pick 12.
Patrick Willis LB Missisppi: Some feel he's best suited for MLB so if we can't retain Fletcher maybe instead we keep Spikes and take Willis here.
Marcus McCauley CB Fresno St: With questions if Nate wil be franchised again we might look for his replacement in the draft. McCauley matches Nate's size and arguably the top CB in the draft.

I felt the same thing about 6 months ago however as the season has worn on we might be in a better position to draft a guy like Sam Baker T USC, assuming he comes out.
With the 17th overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft

I updated my avatar/profile to reflect how I felt on this subject a few days ago. As Blalock is probably the best G prospect in the draft and/or could also be a RT if Pennington doesn't work out. However after yesterday's game I'm leaning toward Dwayne Jarrett as well as think we need to find someone that truly can be a counterpart to Evans as it seems to me Price/Reed are better as depth WRs.
