  1. Well, I looked on Angies List (Great service, BTW -- http://www.angieslist.com ) and called an HVAC guy. He called us back from a monster truck rally in the Metrodome :D

Anyway, he had me go into the basement, turn the power off of the furnace, take the front cover off, then turn it on (as an aside, the manual clearly states not to do that...). He asked if I could see a motor spinning at the top; there was a motor, but it wasn't spinning at first. However, after 30-40 seconds, it did start spinning. He then told me to look at the bottom for the flame area and see if it started getting hot (turning white). Nothing happened and I started to smell gas, so he had me turn the furnance off and said it's the igniter that's bad and that I couldn't replace that myself :wallbash:

So he's going to come out tomorrow morning and replace the igniter and hopefully won't charge a fortune for it

    CW

If he does charge you for it just call his office and ask for the retention department and tell them you're going to cancel unless he throws in a free HD DVR for six months oh wait :D Just messing with your Fez, I wish I had some real advice but just had to chime in and hope for your sake it doesn't cost you too much.

  2. didnt the vikes run the same defense we did this year? the tampa 2? i think so... weird.

maybe we should try to get a guy like pat williams on the bills... :D

and as good as the Vikes were on rush D they were conversely just as bad on pass D (31st in the NFL) and even gave up more points per game then us despite playing the dreaded Lions two times but I know you'd rather have a CB like Winfield instead of Clements right?

  3. A lot of D this year. QB could be rough and RB is nothing like two years ago. WR is for sure better than last season. This may be a draft where teams don't get "The player," but instead some great parts to flesh out teams.

I agree with most of your comments especially with the D. I'd fo so far to say there's no franchise type players (see Reggie Bush or Vince Young) in this years draft I think it has some solid depth moreso on the D-side. As the only position on O I really like is WR.

  4. I wonder what lost Grimm the job. He had to be the top guy. Could Tomlin have wowed them that much? I agree, Max, it's not like the Viks' D was the '85 Bears this season.

Maybe the way of Pittsburgh's defense played had more to the decision. As one could argue the reason for the downfall of the offense was due to BIG Ben's injuries and could be rectified next year when he's healthy. Whereas the defense which was considered the strength of the 2005 team took a few steps back this year. Not to mention I'm sure former Steeler alum and a highly respected head coach named Tony Dungy likely gave Nolan a glowing review.

  5. He will become an unrestricted free agent, so he is absolutely free to go whereever he wants. I wonder if he will give the Bills the chance to match. Anybody remember Cornelius "Benedict Arnold" Bennett, who promised he'd give the Bills the right to match, so don't bother tagging me....and then just signed with Atlanta?

What Nate and the Bills agreed to last year was a mutual risk. Nate was coming off a pretty bad year, and he wasn't going to get market value. The Bills were willing to pay him the Franchise Tag amount for a one year deal, and he went out and had himself a pretty good year. Did he make the Pro Bowl? No. Did he make All-Pro? No. Then why does he think he should be the highest paid corner in the league?

I'd make him a really good offer, and hope to sign him. Maybe 5 years, 42 million or something. If that won't work, tell him good luck...if you don't mind, run the numbers past us before you sign, we want you on the team, but that's what we have right now.

And see what happens. Will somebody pay him the huge dollars? He had a really good year. Not a great year.

He had a good year and widely considered one of the top 5 CBs in the league and still in his prime. To me you franchise him again as he's really worth the money. I truly think many have people have forgotten what was like before with Ken Irvin starting at CB albeit he was starting with Antoine Winfield but I still don't think Winfield's in Nate's class.

  6. Mike Trannon from Michigan State.

The guy is 6'6" with great hands... he's a little injury prone, but I certainly believe he can pull a Marques Colston.

    Who do you think?

Trannon won't be taken in the 7th Round so to say he'd pull a Colston is a bit much. In terms of sleepers it's hard to know because a lot of time a players production depends more on the team he's taken by more then just sheer talent. I mean if Colston was drafted by the Colts or Rams he might have never been in the NFL this year as doubt he'd start ahead of guys like Harrison, Holt, Bruce or Wayne and could be argued he'd even have difficulty supplanting Brandon Stokely or Kevin Curtis. as in New Orleans he got an oppurtunity inpart because it was a new QB (who had no established relationship with any of the WRs) a new coach who had no problems trading a guy like Donte' Stallworth and an oppurtunity to play with Joe Horn getting hurt. To me I think a guy like RB Tony Hunt might get underdrafted because a perception of lack of speed but he has done very well at the college level and is to me a complete back. I liken to him a young Anthony Thomas in that he might not be the next great one but given a chance to get 20-25 carries a game can be an every down for a few years type RB. Another comparison might be Stephen Davis. As think Hunt won't get drafted as high as A-train was.

  7. Chicago - Ruben Brown

    New Orleans - Mark Campbell

    New England - RaShad Baker

Indianapolis - Luke Lawton? im not sure about this one, anyone know who is on the colts roster from the Bills?

None on the Colts that I could see. Of course they do have Ricky Proehl, so if he ends up scoring a TD late don't be surprised if Brady marches down the field and leads the Patriots a last second field goal to win it. Of course the Colts have Adam Vinatieri so maybe my logic is wrong.

  8. big thing missing from above: Okoye is only 19, he has more time to develop before he heads downhill in his career --> more potential IMO

Do we want potential or polish (note that's not capitalized so I am not conveying we take a LB from PSU). To me the Bills are a few players away from becoming a playoff type team and that's why rather see us shore up some positions in free agency then through the draft.

  9. Don Mattingly thought that in the movie of his life story he would be portrayed by Peter Selleck, but they cast Bill Murray instead.

In the same way, Brady thinks he looks like Matt Damon. Any luck and they'll pick this guy to play him on the silver screen.

To get back on track Tom Brady is not God because Matt Damon can only portray angels (see Dogma) and therefore if Tom Brady was God he'd be portrayed by Alanis Morissette or Morgan Freeman (see Bruce Almighty).

  10. are you questioning if he's staying in school? or if he played in the Senior bowl? cause hes DEFINITELY returning to louisville next year.

Louisville? Levi Brown played at PSU.

EDIT: In rereading the thread I now see the Brohm note. I thought the note was about Levi Brown returning to school.

  11. especially since he is staying in school

He can stay in school and yet was invited to the SENIOR BOWL? I don't think so. Seriously I doubt Levi be a top 12 pick as well as currently grades out to be a RT and the last RT (aside from Mike Williams) that I remember in recent years being selected that high was Willie Anderson. Levi might be good but don't think he's that good. He'll likely go in the 1st Round but think more likely he'll be picked in 20 something area of the draft.

  12. Branch will be long gone by #12...He's Prototype...Pitcock would fit right in on the Bills D-Line because he's undersized and should get pushed around easily in the NFL... :D

and lord knows we did great with the last Ohio State DT we drafted :D . Not to mention I also thought Kenny Peterson be a great DT too (ironically he was drafted with the Packers in a pick they acquired from us) Granted we did pursue another one in the form of Ryan Pickett in free agency so categorise all DTs from Ohio State as busts is a little unfair. Personally I think we need to find a starting NT as think Kyle Williams showed to be a very capable guy in the depth role. To me we're better off considering an experienced free agent like an Ian Scott or Alvin McKinley are on the top of my list as much rather see use our day one picks to shore up a MLB (if London not or another starting capable free agent signed), a starting OG and starting WR.

In terms of comparing them to said rookies here are some blurbs from their respective predraft CNNSI draft bios:

    IAN SCOTT | DT |School: Florida |SEC

Selected by Chicago Bears Round 4, pick 19 (116 overall)

    Ht., Wt.: 40 Time: Grade:

    6'2½, 312 5.14 3.56

BIO: Junior entry and Two-year starter, both an All-SEC and All-Academic selections his senior and junior campaigns. Totaled 57 tackles, six tackles for loss and one sack last season after 49-10.5-2.5 the prior year.

POSITIVES: Hard working, interior prospect known as a high character individual. Quick off the snap, keeps his pad level low and gets leverage on opponents. Drives up the field, wedges between blocks and displays a burst of closing speed. Gives top effort and always working to make positive plays.

NEGATIVES: Lacks a fluid change of direction, best in a straight line and not effective laterally. Easily knocked off balance or engulfed by opponents.

ANALYSIS: Coming off a solid but not spectacular junior campaign and was a bit disappointing based off his play of 2001. Needed to stay in college one more season.

    PROJECTION: Mid Fourth Round

Alvin McKinley | DT | Mississippi St. | SEC

Selected by Carolina Panthers in round 4, pick 25 (#120 overall)

Ht Wt 40 BP SS LS VJ BJ Grade

    6'4" 290 5.06 22 4.62 - 27.5 8'6" 4.29

JuCo transfer. Was a backup in '98. Started at nose tackle in '99. An intriguing specimen with very long arms. Thin-legged. Not muscular or strong. Inconsistent off the ball. Shows good quickness at times. Extends his arms well, but tends to raise himself too high. Needs to protect his legs better and do a better job of moving his feet on contact. Gets knocked to the ground too much. Has a burst down the line. Raw pass rusher. Uses his hands well but lacks explosive power. A little stiff. Not a good leaper. Developmental-type candidate.

  13. I'm bored, and I have watched these guys, and I think we can get a few of them.

Round 1: MLB Patrick Willis Mississippi: I suspect London Fletcher-Baker will be gone and need to find a suitable replacement and no one better in the draft.

Round 2: OG Josh Beekman Boston College: The second best RG prospect in the draft behind Justin Blalock.

Round 3: WR Robert Meachem Tennessee: Has the size to be a great compliment to Lee Evans.

Round 4: TE Martrez Milner Georgia: Developmental TE with upside to serve behind Robert Royal for a season or two.

Round 5: Lost in trade for Anthony Hargrove.

Round 6: FB Le'Ron McClain Alabama: Likely backup to start the season but could develop into a starter.

Round 7: RB Jon Cornish Kansas: put big numbers up his senior year but also knows how to play special teams yet nothing more a 3rd down back in 2007 but enough upside that might have a chance to replace Willis McGahee.

    Undrafted free agents:

QB Isaiah Stanback Washington: A mobile QB with good NFL size.

CB John Talley Duke: He might get drafted but one can hope he doesn't. Been a playmaker in college but might not be anything more then a depth CB in the NFL.

OG George Batiste: Souther Miss. Developmental OG that think has more upside then Aaron Mertz.

  14. That's fairly obvious. The pats oline consists of 3 1st day picks. LG- Logan Mankins LT- Matt Light and RT Nick Kaczur. a UDFA and 5th rd pick. RG- Stephen Neal and C- Dan Koppen. Meanwhile none of our oline were 1st day picks drafted by us. Our best players are a 7th rd and UDFA te turned tackle. NE does an incredible job placing importance in the trenches and it shows. They do an even better job with their dline. Hopefully we can learn to follow that same example.

Well look at their D-line it's littered with 1st Rounders: Seymour, Wilfolk and Warren.

  15. Which is why I think if Clements winds up anywhere it'll be with the Vikings and not the redskins. Fred Smoot is awful. I still await the day he's cut someone saying "We should sign fred smoot to replace Nate".

My biggest worry about losing Nate is not so much how good he is and he is damn good. It's the collective experience of the secondary. Lose Nate and the oldest guy in our secondary is 29 year old Kiwaukee Thomas. Who just is not good enough to be a #1 or #2 corner. Assuming we even sign Kiwaukee. Plus I still have my doubts about McGee being a #2 corner. There's something to be said for experience in this league, and taking away our best and most experienced db who will be only 28 next december is not the way to build a winning team.

I just hope that Fewell and Jauron can convince Marv and Ralph just how good Clements is. I'm worrisome that Levy will feel that CBs are easy replaceable based on us able to get DBs at will in his previous tenure as head coach. Of course we did have a better surrounding cast then too. I honestly don't care about Marv's promise and would franchise Nate again. If he pouts then look to trade him but to be honest think he's just too valuable to let go for nothing.

Insane how much money Seattle has; they've made a competitve to above-market offer to every one of their star free agents (losing only Hutch on a poison pill). I will be ticked if Clements ends up there.

I could see Nate ending up in San Francisco. I don't know why but know they have a buttload of cap space and need some help in the secondary. I also saw they let go of their D-coordinator and who knows Jerry Gray might end up there too.

  16. I hate the idea of trading up. I like trading down, get 2 mid to late round first picks and a couple of second rounders and then you can get four good footballers at the same price a top 5 player might cost.

The only team that has two 1st Round picks in the draft thus far is the New England Patriots. The only teams with multiple picks in Round 2 are the Jets and Buccaneers. So unless you want to help a division rival unless or want to trade out of the 1st Round (since the Bucs are drafting ahead of us) I doubt we'll be trading down in the first two rounds. Oh and their second 2nd Rounder belongs to the Colts so not sure if want to trade that low even if meant getting two high 3rd Rounders. If looking for a trading partner we might want to consider the Saints and 49ers who both own three picks in Round 4.

  17. I'd trade Clements and our 2nd round draft pick to get Pat Williams back

Because Pat Williams was so good to help lead the Vikings to the top rated rush defense but only for a 6-10 record including to a loss our beloved Buffalo Bills? Better yet let's bring back Antoine Winfield who helped the Vikings become the 31st pass defense.

  18. The Bills were pursuing DT Ryan Pickett last year, and would have still signed Tripplett. That tells me that they wanted more beef/run-stopping ability. The problem is that Pickett chose GB. I think they make a push for an Ian Scott or a Terdell Sands, or draft a DT high. I'm thinking they want to fill DT with a FA and allow themselves to draft Patrick Willis at LB, to be a latter-day Urlacher.

And the Bears' defense isn't nearly as dominant without Tommie Harris. It's just that the Seahawks can't catch the ball to save their lives and have a secondary made-up of a rookie, a SS, and a guy who was a loan officer 2 weeks ago.

Actually Triplett had already signed when we brought Pickett in for a visit. I definately think we should sign Scott, as outlined in my offseason plan as think would shore up the DT position. I agree that drafting Willis makes sense if we land a free agent DT (also part of my plan). Another name to keep in mind is Alvin McKinley of the Browns. While he's played DE the last two seasons he started his career at DT and played NT in college.

  19. you have jarrett jersey set up but you dont have him picked in the first round....guessing you think he is def a top 10 pick

I like Jarrett and think he might be available where we pick but with the earling mumblings of the offseason it sounds like London Fletcher's return is lower then I thought it would be when I made my Jarrett profile. So that's why went with Willis in Round 1 and looked to shore up a WR later in the draft.

  20. I would be fine with that team, it would be a good product, my only concern is that we still don't trully have a weapon at TE, I really believe that a TE is the key to reaching the post season. Also, while I would love to see it, I don't think that Robert meachem will be availible in the third round. I think we could get a Dallas Baker there, he has very good ball skills, long arms, and is an ideal possesion WR. I think you could flip flop 2 and 3, Beekman will be there in the 3rd, if he's not Grubbs will be, both are better than our current starter, I think that Grubs has not hit his stride yet, I think he could turn inot a dominating RG.

While I am at it, wasn't chris cooper involved in the Balco case? and Womack would start at RT or RG and not be a back up.

Meachem reminds me a little bit of Maurice Stovall last year, in that neither did much until their senior seasons and think rigt now grade higher then they'll be drafted. Baker's another good option.

Grubbs played LG at Auburn and to me I don't like the idea of switching sides for O-lineman and that's why went with Beekman as in looking at the free agent landscape Dielman was a definate upgrade to Gandy. As felt he be better then Cosey Coleman (to play RG), who I almost went with if we were to draft Grubbs.

Womack very well could start and is the perfect security blanket if Pennington should falter or if Beekman does.

Yeah Cooper was involved with Balco but he played the season for the Cards which tells me he's cleaned up his act, In reality we don't have to get him but felt he offers the best in terms of versaitility but other DEs that could be had include Jarrett Johnson and Kenyon Coleman to name a few.

  22. A look at the draft:

Round 1: MLB Patrick Willis Mississippi: Rainer was brought in for depth purposes only.

Round 2: OG Josh Beekman Boston College: I prefer O-lineman that are a little more athletic but should be able to start from day 1.

Round 3: WR Robert Meachem Tennessee: Has the size to be a compliment to Lee Evans, asking him to start as a rookie is asking a lot but he offers more upside then Peerless so might end up being a spot starter with Josh Reed.

Round 4: TE Martrez Milner Georgia: Developmental with upside to serve behind Robert Royal for a season or two.

Round 5: Lost in trade for Anthony Hargrove.

Round 6: FB Le'Ron McClain Alabama: Likely backup in 2006 but could start by years end.

Round 7: RB Jon Cornish Kansas: put big numbers up his senior year but also knows how to play special teams yet nothing more then a replacement for Shaud Williams.

  23. Most everyone has an offseason plan in mind, so I thought I'd toss mine in. Yet because it's fairly long I'm doing it in several posts in one thread in hopes to make it easy to read. I'm going to start with our free agents then move onto guys would let go and then guys I'd target in free agency and in the draft and end up with an overall depth chart. Feel free to post your thoughts either individually or on the whole.

CB Nate clements: Ralph ponies up the money to the keep a key cog in the defense for years to come.

LG Kris Dielman: Not as good as Steinbach but arguably the 2nd best LG available in free agency.

DT Ian Scott Chicago Bears: The lure of being a full time starter and knowledge of the defense and being an upgrade to Tim Anderson makes him an ideal guy to sign.

LB Wali Rainer Houston Texans: has a history with Jauron in Detroit. Brought in for veteran leadership and offers better size and a better cap number then London Fletcher and can replace Josh Stamer on special teams.

OL Floyd Womack Seattle Seahawks: Started 9 games at LG for the Seahawks this season but's also seen time in the past at OT. A perfect swing O-lineman for depth at OG/OT to replace Mike Gandy.

DE Chris Cooper Arizona Cardinals: I expect Kelsay to go onto greener pastures so Bills bring in another DE who can be part of the rotation and can also play DT in a pinch but won't break the bank.

CB Kiwaukee Thomas: Starts the season at nickel back but hopefully Youboty develops enough for him to finish the season at dime back.

WR Andre'Davis: he was a key special teams contributor last year and brought back to serve the same role in 2007.

RB Anthony Thomas: Backup to Willis McGahee again.
