  1. While it means giving up a draft pick, I think he would only be a 2nd or better yet third round (if anyones knows, that would be great) My only concern with Okoye is his size, while I believe he can add bulk, as a rookie he is a 3 tech, like McCargo and Tripplett, we need a nose! Randy starks' size, 6'3" 312, numbers last year in the rotation including Haynesworth and Robaire Smith 40 tackles and 3 sacks, including one against Buffalo. If it was a third we would be stupid not too, even a 2nd I would understand, he is only 23, this would allow us to trade down from 12 and still get a starting LB and get another 3rd or 4th rounder.

He'd likely cost us a 3rd as that's the round the Titans drafted him in, three picks before we Tim Anderson. I doubt the Titans would let him go easily as you mentioned Robaire Smith is due to be a UFA as is another DT they have Rien Long making Starks that much more valuable to them. Although Long missed all of last season with an achilles injury so they might be able to get him back I wouldn't count on getting Starks.

  2. I like the idea of getting Dielman,

My concern is that his head coach in college was Cam Cameron- who encouraged SD to bring him in the fold there.

Now with Cameron in Miami- he will push to bring him there.

Will the Bills give him more of a signing bonus than the fins? I don't know.

True but the Dolphins also had former Chargers OG Toniu Fonoti and maybe can re-sign him instead. As I so hope we can can land Dielman as think could him easier then say Eric Steinbach. Yet my biggest fear is we may end up with Sean Mahan. Though in relooking at the free agent landscape another interesting name is David Diehl but think he be a better guy in the Floyd Womack/Mike Gandy swing OG/OT role.

I agree about posey, although at that time anyone would've been an upgrade. I believe that he came in and replaced Eddie Robinson.......

Also, I dont know how you can dismiss columbo like that, he should come real cheap and I dont agree that Pennington needs more time, so why not bring in a vet to compete. Its not like Columbo is Willie Anderson or Maurice Williams, hes just some schmo at this point.....but a useful schmo.

I feel Columbo is going to be looking for a place to start where we can't guarantee that here is all. He's a solid player but just not my cup of tea is all.

  3. call me crazy but i thought Posey was an IMMEDIATE upgrade from our LBs at the time and he was a very decent player while he was here. i was never too sure why everyone hated on him so much. he was always around the ball and played very well in a defense he was not cut out for.

You're not crazy. I agree Posey was an upgrade and a very solid SLB. The problem is too many fans assumed he would be another Cornellius Bennett/Bryce Paup and get to the QB more when the truth is in most 4-3 defenses LBs aren't asked to rush the QB.

  4. U BOys think damien will be back with us next year Cieslak showed the last two games he can play FB

I think Cieslak showed he could be a back up FB. I say keep Shelton around for another year but look for a full time replacement either in the draft or as an undrafted free agent.

  5. I dont think that we have any use at all for Rod Hood. Hes kind of garbage and IMO K Thomas would be a more adequate starter. As far as McIntosh, did anyone watch the dolphins last year? their line wasnt very good, so signing one of theirs might be a step in the wrong direction.

My offseason prediction is....MARC COLUMBO(ORT): Former first round pick out of BC by the bears in 01, sufferred a dislocated knee and subsequent rehab. Cut by bears, signed by Cowboys last year, starts most of the year and does pretty well. Supposedly a hard worker, perfect Marv Levy type guy. Did I mention he's about 6'8" 325 lbs?

While there's still question if Terrence Pennington will be a full time starter I can't see us signing a guy like Columbo, although a veteran RT should definately be brought in for depth/competition purposes.

  6. I'll crack open a cold one if that happens Jokeman. Here's hoping you become a TBD famous seer! :(

I'd like to think I am already a famed seer as last offseason I made mention the Bills should sign Melvin Fowler and that we should shift Gandy from LT to LG. I also predicted a few years ago that we'd sign a little known QB by the name of Travis Brown. If you haven't seen it here's a look at my 2007 offseason plan Granted mst of my predictions are wrong but a blind squirrel does find a nut every now and again.

  7. LG Kris Dielman, the Bills know that they have to work on improving their O-line based on the comments Wilson has made in the papers. As let's not forget that Gandy's set to be an UFA so we'll have a hole immediate hole at LG and it be wise to fill sooner then later with the crop of free agent OGs rather small.

  8. In our scheme, neither. We need a big, strong boy to play the 1-tech manned by Anderson/Williams last year. In terms of what's preventing the Bills from being a good run-stopping team, the 1-tech guy is most important.

In other words, we need to find a NT. Hence my calling for us to sign Ian Scott or Alvin McKinney in free agency.

  9. Seriously? His reads are about ten times better than Vince Young's right now--and probably better than Vince 5 years from now. I can see knocking Troy Smith for his size (and maybe his throws, like you do)--but he is a smart QB. Vince Young, on the other hand, has always been and probably will always be a 1-2 read QB. His freakish athleticism lets him get aways with it.

I think Troy Smith will be a 2nd or 3rd rounder and have a nice, if not Drew Brees-like, NFL career.

BTW, I choose for my bust the first player taken from Texas in this draft, especially if he's an o-lineman.

I don't know why but I feel like Troy Smith might be another Brad Banks. Although Smith appears to be a better athlete and might end up getting a shot in the NFL, but think he'll likely end up being a 3rd/early 4th Round pick where Banks was never drafted by a NFL team.

  10. I agree that all things being equal if all we do is plug in the above guys on the existing roster for NC and F-B we are almost certainly worse, but I think this lays the groundwork to employ the cap resources we have to do some damage.

If one signs a Lance Briggs to replace Crowell who has moved over, I actually feel somewhat hopeful about Youbouty though not nearly being as good as NC, he our scheme actually will call for him to do alot less than what NC can do (press coverage in the short zone and then release the WR going deeper to the safeties and MLB we are already getting there.

Of the first draft choice is Okoye to rotate in on the DL if the braintrust looks him in the eye and feels comfortable being a very young pro I feel pretty good about the D.

As far as the O, I think that actually the existing roster was not as well coached as they could have been last year, If Fairchild has gained from his first time OC experience and JP continues to come into his own, I think our O can be productive with a play selection which uses the still speedy PP (I do not know why we used him as a possession WR) and the speed shown in some great episodes by Parrish and more use of WM as a receiver (he showed some potential in college and on plays like the first play of the Ravens game where he caught and ran the ball to a nice game which was called back on a seemingly unrelated penalty) I think that the skill players can get better production.

The OL seems to be going in the right direction but can still use a good FA G to upgrade, but I feel like if we make the right moves we can definitely challenge for and make the playoffs.

According to the NFLPA.org the second highest paid CB behind Bailey in the league is Rhonde Barber who only 8 more career INTs then Nate does. So even if Nate doesn't get picks I think it shows just how valuable quality CBs in the cover 2. To ask Youboty to start and replace a Pro Bowl caliber type CB like Nate when he didn't even see the field as a nickel or dime CB is asking a lot. People can point he missed most of training camp due to his mothers death etc are making an excuse as even in the season finale Coy Wire was seeing more playing time at CB then Youboty was, while he still has potential I wouldn't actually hang my hat on him to start and this doesn't even factor in that McGee was losing some starting time to Kiwaukee Thomas last year as well.

In terms of LB, I can understand why signing Briggs is a popular idea. Though I still maintain that drafting a guy like Patrick Willis and bringing in a vetean like Wali Rainer is a smart idea as well. As Rainer did start five games for the Lions in 2005 under Jauron if Willis should faulter. As I'm not high on a plan to shift Crowell MLB but if we do then I'd say we might want to consider drafting a guy Lawrence Timmons to play WLB. Then we could re-sign Nate and allow Youboty to develop a little more and maybe replace McGee if needed. As again think Nate's greatness is being underappreciated by those that don't think he deserves Bailey type money but mark my words some team will give him that money. As by contrast he is easily a top 10 CB in this league where no one else on the current roster or free agent landscape can make that claim.

I think your saying the O was not well coached last year is a misnomer. As maybe the reason the Bills made Peerless a possesion WR is we don't have one on the current roster and we needed someone to play the position. I think Fairchild also took some baby steps this season with JP and while he showed some good things last year he still needs to improve as can't help but notice that we won just two of the six games in which JP had more then 30 pass attempts which tells me a balanced approach will help us win more next year or that JP has to find target JP's comfortable with in on first and second downs outside of Lee Evans. A possession WR should definately be considered and welcome a WR with size to compliment our current crop of undersized WRs.

The O-line definately needs an upgrade at both OG positions and hope we can address one through free agency and the other with a high (see day 1) draft pick.

  11. I've been trying to sell him to the Bills for the past few years. He no longer carries the 3rd round pick penalty. They activated him late in the season, but he couldn't go...but so far, there have been zero reports that he won't come back full strength.

Speed, size, moves...what's not to like? And it seems that is attitude problems are behind...

I'm all for giving Washington a chance but he still has a lot to prove in the NFL but do like him a bit more then the guy you were trying to sell last off season (Kevin Walter).

  12. 5 years 25 million is why they chose Johnson. That was a screw up beyond belief. I still can't believe some of the anti-flutie talk around here. The guy won football games something we haven't done in a long time.

Because Flutie had limitations in his game that likely wouldn't lead the Bills any further then "he" took us to in 1998.

  13. Not counting the signing bonus he gets too. I think I would go after a guy like Harper. Great cover 2 corner.

I really feel Nate's the best way to go. One thing on Harper, is he's 32 years old and while he could be a good short term solution one has to wonder how many years he has left. Of course we could hope Yobouty develops behind him for a season or two but by then Ashton gets a chance to start he could be eligible for free agency. David Macklin is another UFA with experience in the cover 2 but a little bit younger then Harper. I've also stated in other threads that Travis Fisher should be considered due to his youth and working under Ferrell in St Louis, of course he's a risky pick due to his injury filled past.

  14. Thomas Jones anybody?

As far as I know Thomas is under contract and don't see the Bears letting him go anytime soon. Though his brother, Julius, might be an interesting option but think a rookie is a better way to go.

Why would TEN be interested in dumping Chris Brown on the cheap?

He's an UFA so it might not be an option. Of course with Travis Henry and LenDale White in the fold, they might not be rushing (pun intended) to re-sign Brown. That being said, I'd predict Brown might looking to start somewhere and might be targetted by the Browns, Jets and Texans.

  15. The guy you want is Walker from Notre Dame. He will be in the League for at least 10 years (barring injury), and will have a career somewhere between Kevin Faulk and Curtis Martin. Unbeleivable hands and great vision. He can probably be had for a second round pick.

Walker definately has the hands but there are questions if he has the size to be an every down back. The Kevin Faulk comparison is a fair one but don't think the Bills would use such a high pick on a RB.That said I could definately see a RB drafted somewhere from picks 3- and 4 if going to look for a guy to compete with Anthony Thomas to back up McGahee in 2007 and potentially replace him in 2008. I've mentioned Tony Hunt in the past as guy love in Round 3 but another guy a little later to consider would be Kenneth Darby.

  16. The Broncos blockers only work within their scheme. Look what happened when we snatched up Trey Teague. We had to immediately shift him from tackle to center, where he was below-average for 3 years.

Is this Carlisle a big guy? I'd like to get a big road-grader at guard.

Carlisle's 295# so hardly a road grader. Also he had an off year last season as gave up a career high 6.0 sacks. Personally if I was going to go with a career backup OG I'd rather have Montrae Holland of the Saints who is bigger at 322# and younger. Of course I would also draft another G to compete with Holland then just hand him the starting job.

  17. Do we really need a CB THAT badly to take a 1st round pick on him?

Darrelle Revis is regarded as one of the top 2 CBs in the draft. I think he might even surpass Leon Hall on the list if he has a stronger combine and if we lose Nate Clements and don't sign a veteran replacement yes we'll NEED a CB.

  18. Anyone know how many players developed and went onto the NFL under Kugler?

Daryn Colledge, 6-5, 299, Boise State

Matched likely first round pass rusher Mathias Kiwanuka of Boston College in the MPC Computers Bowl and held Kiwanuka without a tackle for the first half.

Actually Colledge was playing in the NFL last season and that was Kugler's only season at Boise State. The only names I came up was Jon Dorenbos, Trey Darilek, Carey Clayton (only played one NFL season in 2001) when Kugler was at Texas El-Paso to answer the question of who developed under him. Of course he might be able to offer some insite on UFA OG Rick DeMulling, who remember many of us were high on a few seasons ago.

  19. I've come to the conclusion that Okoye won't be there when we pick at 12. If he were there then it's a no brainer, but it's now become a pipe dream.

If Okoye was as dominant as quoted, coupled with his youth (see potential) and seemingly high character you're right he likely won't last to pick 12. The Dolphins at pick 9 seem like a good fit with their age at DT (see Traylor, Holliday and Zgonina) all over age 30 and little depth behind them. Not to mention Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas likely won't be around too many more years and they'll need someone to pass the torch too.

  20. One could argue that LB was Levy's #1 priority last year, and AJ Hawk was taken right before our pick by the Packers.

Some think taking an OLB is in the cards. I disagree. The performance of Ellison and Crowell, the rehab of Takeo, and the re-signing of Coy Wire make this less likely. The offensive line is a priority at Guard (read: Blalock or Grubbs in the 2nd Round), and the Defensive Line is a big question mark. A lot depends on whether Branch and Okoye are still on the board. If they aren't, Pitcock is in play in RD#2 and Ryan McBean is a trade down possibility in RD#3. After that, we're probably better off with who we have.

I don't like your choices at DT, I think your focusing too much on the size thing. While the defense does seemingly call for smaller DTs we still need a NT type prospect. If looking for someone in the mid rounds then DeMarcus Tyler or Brandon Mebane could be guys to consider. Yet I think a veteran is the better way to go since we already have two young guys in Kyle Williams and John McCargo already at DT. I'll continue to harp on Ian Scott or Alvin McKinley until they sign elsewhere.

  21. By the way this site is proven to be a complete piece of sh--.

It has St. Louis taking Adrian Peterson.

Has anybody there heard of Steven Jackson???

Come on now, haven't you heard every team should have quality 2 RBs because it's the latest fad. I mean that's why so many are suggesting we take Marshawn Lynch.
