Dead musicians you wish you could have seen play live
Juror#8 replied to Just Jack's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Hendrix - late 60s Band of Gypsys lineup except replace Cox with Redding for stylistic reasons. Yea, that about sums it up. -
Great thoughts as always Bill. I'll also use this as an opportunity to insert my obligatory plug for playmakers. CJ going down highlighted why we need them so desperately. We were a well oiled machine with a world class playmaker and a good defense. We were limping along sans the playmaker but with everything else in tact. You can't overestimate how important a home run hitter is to every phase of the team. It inspires confidence that fuels both sides of the ball.

Belichick touching the official after the game
Juror#8 replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure that there is anything wrong with these refs. Just think it some weird kind of psychosomatic thing. And now it's piling on. Reminds me of something that someone said about Gerald Ford's administration post-Watergate. There are more issues not because there are more issues, but because folks are expecting there to be more issues. -
He'll be too dogged out by then.

Dline earning their paycheck this week. : )

The guy is legit. Can you imagine him and RG3 on the same team?
-
CJ Spiller. That's why you draft OFFENSIVE playmakers and roadgrinders. Make the other team play catch up.

The Most Transparent Administration Ever
Juror#8 replied to 3rdnlng's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
+1 And that has been about 50% of his first term - naive promises that didn't (or couldn't) materialize. For a variety of reasons the guy was woefully unprepared to be president. -
Romney opens 5 point lead over Obama
Juror#8 replied to DaveinElma's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
If Melinda Wadsley was on PPP, she'd be considered an Obama supporter. Because we ALLLLL know that if you don't like Romney, you must secretly be for Obama. -
Just messing with you man. My jokes are just falling flat today. As for boxing me in...just making a point to Doc more than anything. I was just doing it backhandedly as a play on his inside joke with Jauronimo. I should learn about about these backhanded comments by the way - especially since they netted me two warning points from Simon.

Who is "Your," where is the conjugated verb, and what about a picture of this silly fellow? Ok, in all seriousness...you're right. It was less a salient political point than it was a joke though (notice the movie reference). However, the punchline was flawed, so it obviously came off less funny than intended. Either that, or you're trying to find more ways to box me in the "pro-Obama" camp.

I'm claiming that there is bias to those looking for media bias. There is no bias to those who enjoy their outlet. That's in both talk radio and traditional print media. The most interesting thing to watch is a person demonizing a news outlet for squarely presenting an issue inconsistent with their political sentiments or expressing personal admiration for a person and claiming that that demonstrates a bias. People say "media bias" because Chirs Matthews caught a shiver up his leg when hearing a presidential speech but gave no play to Steve Doocy's gushing over Palin with "she's gonna be great..." blah blah blah language. Also, no one bothers to care about Chris Matthews unecessarily going on for 10 minutes about how McCain is a hero and a man of particular principle. Again, you find it where you want to find it. You found it, it satisfies your personal bias. Good for you. The worst media bias I've ever seen was in the Palin/Biden debates (against Biden), in the Robert Bork and Justice Thomas confirmation hearings (against both of those gentlemen), and during the invasion of Afghanistan (against anti-war sentiments). That was media bias. Wikipedia is not the end all, be all, but it has some interesting information that you can follow up on or research further if you're so inclined: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_bias_in_the_United_States "Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR) has argued that accusations of liberal media bias are part of a conservative strategy, noting an article in the August 20, 1992 Washington Post, in which Republican party chair Rich Bond compared journalists to referees in a sporting match. "If you watch any great coach, what they try to do is 'work the refs.' Maybe the ref will cut you a little slack next time."[41] A 1998 study from FAIR found that journalists are "mostly centrist in their political orientation";[42] 30% considered themselves to the left on social issues compared to 9% on the right, while 11% considered themselves to the left on economic issues compared to 19% on the right. The report argued that since journalists considered themselves to be centrists, "perhaps this is why an earlier survey found that they tended to vote for Bill Clinton in large numbers." FAIR uses this study to support the claim that media bias is propagated down from the management, and that individual journalists are relatively neutral in their work."

Potential Chicago-area teacher strike
Juror#8 replied to Doc's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You can find a racial component to almost anything can't you? I find it fascinating - in a very neo-Jungian way. -
You're using the stargazette online journal as the basis for your claim of media bias? The stargazette...such a heralded piece of print publication. By the way, the anti-Obama bias in Hollywood is ridiculous. See: http://www.news-record.com/content/2012/08/22/article/2016_obama_documentary_coming_to_greensboro_high_poin

Romney opens 5 point lead over Obama
Juror#8 replied to DaveinElma's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Obama's map is more strategy-friendly....if nothing else. The 08 race helped him in that he encroached upon traditionally republican states that now Romney has to defend and he gave himself a cushion in states that were traditionally battleground areas (PA). He is probably working a two or three state strategy. I would love to know the internal poll numbers coming out of each camp. Is that real or a spoof Wiki entry? -
Romney opens 5 point lead over Obama
Juror#8 replied to DaveinElma's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I'm not doubting your metrics (even though I just checked and Loudon County went for Obama in 2008). I just know that there is a big difference between driving on Rt. 7 or Rt. 28 in Loudon County (Obama bumper stickers everywhere) and being in Richmond, VA. The culture in Loudon is very progressive and shifting more and more in that direction. Also, as Fairfax County gets more and more over-developed, I'd expect that trend to continue. NoVA almost single-handedly put Virigina in blue for the Dems last election. Also, if MD tax rates continue to increase, I expect those many, many millionaires to flee Montgomery County, MD and into Loudon County. -

I'm guessing that you've never been on the cobblestone corners of Georgetown or on the DC side of Chevy Chase or Friendship Heights or anywhere else in NW DC. Plus, most of the contractors move to Montgomery County, Maryland (Bethesda, Potomac, White Flint, Rockville, MD side of Chevy Chase). The Maryland side is more metro accessible. Fairfax County has fought tooth and nail to keep the metro restricted to areas in and around RT. 66 because they don't want darker colored folks from SE DC to have easy access to Tysons I and II (malls). All the IT people and contract recruiters live in NoVA. -

Not sure if you live in or near Loudon County...but I do. I'm also not sure if you're saying that Loudon is a Republican mecca because of the big contractors or because you feel that culturally, Loudon is conservative. I just wanted to let you know that Loudon is a very left leaning county. I don't know what their voting percentage was in 2008, but I do know that they have trended left for the last 15 - 20 years and are now quite a culturally progressive county. Fairfax is DC light so they are super liberal. Much of the Fairfax crowd who rented condos in Herndon when they graduated from school are buying homes in Ashburn, Lansdowne, and Purcellville. -
We could have been aggressive in last year's draft. Both St. Louis and Minnesota were begging someone to trade up into their spots. FO could have had RG3 if they would have had the vision to make it happen. Not saying the moves on defense were a waste - just short-sighted and superfluous. You win in this league by scoring more points than the next team. You can do that directly - by having the better playmakers and an elite QB, or you can do it passively by hoping that your defense can stop their offense. I understand that they are not mutually exclusive but in most instances your emphasis and the character of your football team is with one or the other.

6-10. Unfortunately. Maybe that will be good enough to draft Barkley.

WEEK #1 - Bills @ Jets Game Day Thread

Been saying this since last year. We should have traded up. RG3 was there for the taking. Nah...we'd rather be antequated in an evolving offense oriented game. -

Didn't you hear? CBs and offensive playmakers are unnecessary. All you need is pass rushers like the Giants and you're Superbowl bound. QBs and WRs are superfluous. Don't you remember, Bill and some of the "real" fans told us for last few years. Oh yea...and RG3 (perfect QB rating and no incompletions at this point) can't read defenses and his skills won't translate to the NFL. Edit: 21-0. Ughhh. But we have a lot of beef on the D-line.
