No way Blackshear hits our practice squad. He's proven to be a very versatile and productive player as a runner, pass catcher and returner. Not every team is deep like our Bills.

How many of the core ST Aces do they keep?
TheBrownBear replied to Ed_Formerly_of_Roch's topic in The Stadium Wall
We didn't miss out on the Super Bowl last year because of a lack of offense. And we've already added to the offense with players like cook and shakir. I have no problem with the Bills keeping their special teams core players over a promising sixth wide receiver or 4th running back. -
Broncos at Bills Preseason Game Day thread.
TheBrownBear replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall
Holy crap. This team has too much talent. You could field a competitive team with our backups. Hell, we could probably win the division with them. -
Wow. Just devastating news. Prayers to the Knox family. RIP Luke.

I've got no problem with the thread. I think it's interesting and worthwhile to discuss. I think those of us who are relatively unconcerned think of it as this: even if Hodgins is sharing what he believes are his very specific personal tendencies (or team formation/route variations), he got them from somewhere, past WR coaching, past experience, etc., that are knowable to most every WR and WR coach across the league. And god forbid that isn't the case, the likelihood that he ever sees truly meaningful snaps is so damn low it's almost not worth worrying about. But, this is just my opinion. You could very well be correct and McDermott is chewing him out as we type (or preparing for his release).

I agree. Not what I'd like to see happen, just a best guess based on where we started from (6 games) and Watson's/NFLPA's assertions that virtually zero punishment should be meted out. In that sense, it can be argued that a year ban and comparatively nominal fine are a "win" for Goodell and the NFL in the court of public opinion.
-
My best guess is that Watson will settle on a year and probably a 10 million dollar fine or something in that range. The NFL definitely wants the full year for optics/PR purposes and also wants to make sure that the structuring of that contract gets punished a bit as well. At this point, Watson probably just wants this behind him and seeing the kind of reception he received on Friday night, probably realizes it's in his best interest to allow this to simmer down over the next year.

Big brawl at Pats/Panthers joint practice
TheBrownBear replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
Come on, man. That's a stretch. I mean, not as big of a stretch as Mac Jones being ranked as the 85th best player in the league (let alone top-200), but still. -
Schoen got my homie scooped up down in Jersey town Can't help but eat our leftovers straight pound-for-pound G-Men 'all come up real quick with that Mongo clown I best frustrate Tyrod and knock his passes down

Just got tickets for Bills at Ravens week 4!
TheBrownBear replied to JaCrispy's topic in The Stadium Wall
JC, you're coming off as a serious curmudgeon, man. Let's be real. You could technically argue that every minute we spend on any thread in this place is a "waste" of our lives; time better spent with others IRL or improving ourselves in some way. I do agree with you that if every single person (or hell, just 10% of active posters) started a thread about buying a ticket, it would make the board unreadable, but that's not what's happening here. And if it started to trend that way, the mods would put an end to it pretty quickly. -
Don't forget Jake Locker. Another super athletic QB that couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.

Why do you care so much, man? Are you jealous or something? He's excited and wanted some feedback on the area (though, I did find it pretty wack that he had to denigrate Baltimore, which, despite its issues with crime, presumably is filled with good people like most places across the country). -
I had only previously seen the sidearm pass (which was pretty nifty). Based off these full highlights, he, understandably, has a LONG WAY TO GO. Happy feet and terrible pocket presence. Looks to run at the first sign of trouble and was running himself into sacks/negative plays. On the plus side, he has raw athleticism and is an instinctive runner in the open field, and seems to have good arm strength (that 25 yard laser across the field to No. 12 near the end of the 2nd quarter was impressive and reminded me of early Josh). Raw tools seem to be there. As others have said though, it's going to take a lot of time and really comes down to what he has between the ears and if he can get the game to slow down for him. I'm not one to write anyone off after a couple of quarters (or even a few games) of football, but I'd say he won't be a "problem" for AFC teams until 2024 at the earliest.

He could probably make the Pro Bowl right now under Greg Roman

It was a tough choice but AB announces his biggest regret…
TheBrownBear replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
He's got a sense of humor. I'll give him that. 🤣 I was just thinking of how jealous I am of my wife. Well, at least for three and a half minutes, twice a year. -
I know he's banked some money, but it's hard not to feel bad for this guy. I'd think with his ongoing weight struggles, he's never going to see the field again. And then, again, with those weight struggles, which are likely only to get much worse with another year spent off of his feet, he's looking at a very tough road/life ahead of him from a physical standpoint.

Jon Feliciano's take on KC playoff game
TheBrownBear replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think he's referring to the field turf. Maybe Highmark's turf was too prickly or something and it aggravated his ankles. -
Fans throw things at Diggs and Allen

Honestly, this really pisses me off. So many idiots just completely lacking in respect for others these days. I see idiotic, selfish behavior everywhere I look when I go out. And yes I scream at clouds and your kids better damn well stay off my lawn. 😄 -
The Best “One Year Wonders” in Bills History
TheBrownBear replied to JohnNord's topic in The Stadium Wall
Jairus Byrd - in terms of INTs. He had some good years afterwards i guess, so maybe not a one year wonder. -
With the improvements from Dane, McCloud and Lewis, and Benford already showing out as a rook (and of course, Elam too), I think we look good at CB. I'd much prefer to keep all of these young guys around than sign a vet on his last legs. Going to be hard to keep all of these guys as is. I can't imagine any of the backups (McCloud, Lewis or Benford) lasting on the practice squad for long. They would be poached in a hurry.

I've always liked Sullivan's writing even when he left me exasperated or angry. The truth is his cynicism was mostly well placed over much of the past 20 years. At the same time, I agree with the OP's sentiment. While I'm not exactly glad the drought happened, it is what it is, and I have no jealousy towards the youngins who didn't have to suffer through the lean years (and as anyone, anywhere, who has a few years under their belts knows, good and bad times come and go over a lifespan). Regarding that point, I'm guessing that Sullivan just sort of threw that in there without much reflection, but maybe not. That then begs the question - does he not "get" Buffalonians/Bills fans at their core, or does he get us and just enjoys poking the bear so to speak? Lol. Either way, he's always entertained me and it doesn't hurt to have one cynical voice among a mostly supportive and sunshine pumping local press.
