We laugh now, but when the Joneses, Krafts, and Snyders of the league get their way, the rest of the NFL will serve as a seasoning ground for the rich teams.
Until then, like the poster said above, the NFL will just have to continue using the NCAA as their farm system.
GO BILLS!!!
If the NFL doesn't resolve the revenue sharing issues amongst the owners, then it will be a two tired league with Large market, "high revenue" teams (Dallas, NY, et al) and small market teams (like Buffalo and Cincinnati). W/O revenue sharing and a cap system, say goodbye to the NFL as we've know it since the 90s.
We'll see starting in 2011 or whenever the next season beyond '10 is.

I think an NFL sponsored spring developmental league would be very successful. People love college football and it's a huge moneymaker, so the "inferior product" argument doesn't hold water. The NFLDL would essentially be staffed by practice squad players, UFAs, and kids who decide that they would rather make $50k-150k a year in the NFL minors than play for free in college. It may turn out to be a better way to groom kids for the NFL, especially for QBs. From a marketing standpoint, each NFL team could have a minor league team with the same uniforms and name and superfans could follow their team's stars of the future yearround. Some games could be played in other cities to expand the parent franchise's fan base. I really see no downside for the NFL. The SEC might be pissed though. What do you guys think? I mentioned this in another thread but I think it could be an intresting topic on it's own.
Whaddya think the Bills, Browns, Lions, and Raiders are??? Just Kidding of course!!

From TSN: Bills G/C Eric Wood, a ’09 firstround pick, said his recovery from a gruesome leg fracture November 22 is not going well and that hecould miss the 2010 season. He only recently was able to ditch his wheelchair and start walking. “I’m walking finally, which was a long time coming,” he said via the team’s website. “I walk around in a boot all day when I’m up. I try to stay off of it as much as possible. I’m rehabbing it seems like all the time. It’s almost like you’re a little kid teaching yourself how to walk and get all the strength back.” Wood said there is no timetable yet on when he’ll be able to begin working out and resuming football related activities. He said he has no interest in a second surgery to have the rod in his leg or the screws removed.
Doesn't sound good at all. Looks like Levitre and Incognito as the starting guards to begin the '10 season.

How many years did Kelly warmup/er play in the WFL?
It was the USFL...WFL was in the 70's. Anyway he played two spectacular seasons with the Houston Gamblers before coming to the Bills in 86.

#32 and it's not even close!!

It has to be asked...is he really retiring, or just Favreing?
He's actually announcing that he just saved 15% by switching to Geico!

I was trying to complete the defensive roster and have a couple missing:
Def. Line: Ron Mcdole, Tom Sestak, Jim Dunaway, Tom Day
Linebackers: John Tracy Mike Stratton Harry Jacobs
Safeties: George Saimes ??????????
Corners: Butch Byrd; Hagwood Clarke?
Also, on offense, who played guard besides Billy Shaw and who were the tackle
thanks in advance,,,,,

While most of the sportswriting world has already speculated that Kurt Warner's press conference, set for 3 p.m. ET Friday, will serve as his official retirement announcement, our own inside source informs me that Warner is definitely walking away. I've learned not to question his judgment.
Which begs the question of Warner's legacy, of course. If you'd asked me about his Hall of Fame chances a year ago, I would have hemmed and hawed before saying that yes, he "probably" had a good chance to get in "someday." (Okay, so I hedge my bets.) Looking back, I wonder what I was thinking, because the two-time MVP looks like a first-ballot lock.
Since The Associated Press started handing out Most Valuable Player honors in 1957, only six players have won the award more than once: Peyton Manning (4), Brett Favre (3), Jim Brown (3), Johnny Unitas (3), Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Warner. Brown, Unitas, Montana, and Young were each elected in their first year of eligibility. Manning and Favre certainly will be. Is there any valid reason to keep Warner out of that group?
If there is, let's hear it.
2X MVP - Check
Super Bowl Winner - Check
3 Greatest SB Passing Performances - Check
HOF - Absolutely!!
That's my Take.

All this Tebow talk reminds me of when RW wanted to take Flutie with the 1st pick in the draft instead of Bruce Smith. Hopefully, our 1st round pick will be selected by the "football guys" with no marketing factored in. If they do draft Tebow, hopefully it'll be round 3 or later. This team simply cannot afford another 1st round miss.
-
Umm....he wins?
Not a Tebow fan, but one thing he does do exceptionally well, is win ballgames.
So did Gino Toretta...and we know he was a great NFL QB!!!

Physically/athletically I think that the guy has some special gifts, especially that Gailey is suppose to excel in developing young QBs but attitude wise Russell is another story. Him being rumored as an underacheiver with a indifferent work ethic sure takes away a lot of his redeeming athletic qualities. Big time QBs are hard to find and I'm wondering if the positives outweigh the negatives and if he can be motivated enough to progress in his young career.
NFW...not motivated to get better...he's a bum!!
-
This guy has the fire we need. I hope he does well at the combine and proves he has a strong arm. I loved watching him on the sidelines, he motivated people.
Sounds like a greater hyped version of Ryan Fitzpatrick to me. Let the Jags have him.

man, our home schedule is easy as hell, but look at our road schedule...
Obviously subject to change, but at 1st glance it looks like 1-7 on the road in 2010.

I hope I'm wrong, but the Bengals are looking like the team that will go all the way to Miami and play in the Super Bowl. The Bengals will beat the Bolts or Colts in the AFC championship game.
Looks like lightning will strike with the Bolts to me.

They are still located in the Buffalo area. That's all I got!!

Aaron Rodgers is a "California" QB who plays very well in Green Bay....Hmmmmm, so much for that theory.

The Steelers had satisfied the Rooney Rule before they interviewed Tomlin. But something happened between the rule's adoption and the present that led to a big upswing in the number of black coaches in the league. It could be a coincidence, of course, but there did seem to be a run of successful black coaching hires after the Rooney Rule went into effect.
The NFL ownership ranks include a large number of crusty old men from a different era who really may have needed the nudge to start thinking about black coaches, not even necessarily because of specific racism but just because it didn't fit their preconceived idea of a coach.
You're right, they had already interviewed Ron Rivera. Good points on the increase of minority coaches, not just a coincidence I'm sure.
-
But it is, so it's pointless and counter-productive.
Oh really?!? How do you think the Steelers hired Tomlin?
-
I'm all for finding the most talented people without undergoing a farcical interview process that relegates some people to token status.
We can agree on that. That's why the rule shouldn't be approached with the idea of just meeting the requirement with no real chance of hiring the interview candidate.
-
Oh, no. Did someone's sensibilities get hurt?
Not at all, it's all about getting the best possible candidate and looking "everywhere" to make sure that you do. That's how you get ultimate success. Sensibilities has nothing to do with it my friend.
-
The success of Mike Tomlin, Ozzie Newsome and Jerry Reese all point to the Rooney rule being a great idea and not just some BS cursory requirement to fulfill. If it applies to you.....Get out of the 1950's.
Have a nice day

Resign.

Why dosen't the NFL have a minor league?
