The Young Guns Have Arrived in the NFL !!

Kirk Cousins Chose Wisely; Early Grades on Rookie Quarterbacks Former NFL player and scout Bucky Brooks knows the ins and outs of this league, providing keen insight in his notebook. The topics of this edition include: -- Early grades for the first-round quarterbacks. 2018 QB CLASS: Early grades on first-round picks The 2018 quarterback class wasn't expected to make an immediate impact in the NFL, based on the number of perceived redshirts on tap, but the group has acquitted itself surprisingly well early. Now, it's obviously way too early for anyone to even bring up the legendary 1983 QB class, but I firmly believe the football world should be excited about the young gunslingers who are beginning to make a mark on the league despite obvious flaws. After digging into the All-22 Coaches Film following Week 5 of the regular season, here are my thoughts on each of the QBs who came off the board in Round 1 this past April: Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns: Grade: A- Sam Darnold, New York Jets: Grade: B Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills: Grade: C Josh Rosen, Arizona Cardinals: Grade: B- Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens: Grade: INC -
All Texans for the ESPN "Experts": NFL Picks and Predictions for Week 6 - National Football League - ESPN Week 6 NFL score predictions: A guide to best games, more Bills (2-3) at Texans (2-3): 1 p.m. ET, CBS Point spread: HOU -8.5 | Matchup quality: 41.3 (of 100) Mike Rodak's pick: The Texans have blitzed opposing quarterbacks the eighth most this season, which spells trouble for rookie Josh Allen, who has an NFL-worst 1.6 passer rating and 21.9 completion percentage when facing pressure. The Bills tried to mask that weakness in a win last Sunday over Tennessee by running the ball on the highest percentage of plays of any NFL team this season, but that will be a taller task against a Texans defense that is fourth-best against the run. Texans 20, Bills 7 Sarah Barshop's pick: Houston's defense has shown improvement -- especially in the secondary -- the past two weeks and has a good chance to take a step forward on Sunday against the Bills' league-worst passing offense. The Bills are averaging just 121.8 passing yards per game and have allowed an NFL-leading 22 sacks this season, an area in which this defense should be able take advantage. Texans 21, Bills 14 FPI win projection: HOU, 78.2 percent. The Bills' offensive efficiency is currently 16.9, the lowest in the league this season. Only four teams have posted a lower offensive efficiency in a full season since tracking began in 2006, and none have since 2012. 538 NFL Week 6: 2018 NFL Predictions

Another Rivers McCown writeup. This time at The Athletic. Texans Film Breakdown: Houston's defense should feast on the Bills The Buffalo Bills have won two games this season, and they did both as massive underdogs. In fact, their win over the Vikings was the first time in NFL history a team has won a game by 14 or more points after being a 14-point or more underdog. Houston is favored by 10 points, with all the line movement coming only after it was announced that Deshaun Watson had a chest injury. Texans fans will be quite familiar with what Bills head coach Sean McDermott is doing: It’s essentially the same game plan that Bill O’Brien used before he had Watson on the roster. Buffalo’s objective will be to run the ball successfully, eat a lot of clock and rely on its defense to stifle Houston’s offense. In Buffalo’s two wins, the Bills had 81 running plays and threw the ball just 45 times. They are like Homer Simpson boxing: They want to wear you out and nudge you over rather than having to actually trade punches. When Buffalo has the ball The known: Josh Allen simply can’t throw with any accuracy, and the Buffalo offense as a whole is a tribute to the 1960s. He’s missing open receivers as his renowned arm has led to no advantage for his offense. Per data from Sports Info Solutions, Allen has completed 7 of 33 deep balls for 205 yards and four interceptions. And zero touchdowns. Asked to check through his progressions, Allen has at times created comedic tape. This pass from last week’s game against the Titans was a masterpiece. He not only refused to see the open receivers, but also threw a dump-off pass at the feet of Taiwan Jones.

Taking an in-depth look at Josh Allen's rookie season thus far with @TheJoeMarino who joins Schopp & the Bulldog right now on the AT&T Hotline! Marino - Just seems like his draft stock ascended, but we didn't see the ascension on the field. Experts just couldn't shake the game tape. All along we've been trying to tell people, this is a great physical talent at QB that needs a ton of work. Marino - What kinda sucks for Josh Allen is his supporting cast is very underwhelming. The receiving core is a receiving core that no other team in the NFL would trade for. Marino - You can't go back to Peterman. The best thing for Allen is to play and get those reps. Be exposed to so many different things. Marino - Josh Allen deserves the opportunity to grow and develop, but he is behind the other rookies. Not worried about his mental toughness through that. He's ignored a lot of criticism in the last year. Marino on Allen - I've focused in on him all year. This is bigger than just not having great players around him. There were reads that were simple and easy, and Josh wouldn't pull the trigger. You would expect an NFL QB to execute those. Marino - Allen is limited by his supporting cast, but he is limiting them in turn. Marino - Sean McDermott is the right coach for this team in this scenario. The enviroment & culture is really good. His buzz words & phrases really matter in building a football team. Marino - His body language is really good. You can tell when he takes off with the football he's ready to compete. Not worried about that part of Allen. Marino - Once you put the top rookie in, they're in. Once Kyle Orton came in, that was the end of EJ Manuel... This isn't a situation where the Bills should try to find a different plan at QB on the short term. Marino on Allen's mechanics - A lot of over-striding with his feet. That's been a problem for his entire career. It really messes up his driving off his back foot and being consistent with his release point. Marino - Baker Mayfield has been the cream of the crop. He's got that it factor on 3rd downs when he's under pressure. He's exactly what most thought he'd be based on his Oklahoma tape. Marino - Thought Josh Rosen's debut was special. Hitting tight window throws with confidence. Marino - Allen has helped find a way to win two football games. Especially taking off and running, but he'll have to start making big plays with his arm for that impact to be consistent. Marino on Allen - He's never been a great thrower on the run. You'd think it could be a strength of his game, but he still needs to prove that. Marino on the 2019 QB class - Really like Justin Herbert from Oregon. A lot of buzz though that he won't come out. Heard he's really committed to Oregon. He'd be the top QB. Marino on Tyree Jackson - Don't want to bring Josh Allen into this again, but you see that. Freak athletic abilities, but you want to see more on the tape.
