The Rosen Era Has Begun in Arizona
26CornerBlitz replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Larry Fitzgerald Offers Reasons to Be Optimistic about Josh Rosen's Future with Cardinals As the NFL community heaps praise on Baker Mayfield, who has led the Browns out of a state of despair and into relevancy, Cardinals rookie quarterback Josh Rosen is quietly toiling away in Arizona, where he's undergoing a typical developmental season that's included plenty of growing pains as the Cardinals head toward a likely three- or four-win season. Despite his early struggles, future Hall of Famer and Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald remains high on Rosen's future outlook. Appearing on CBS Sports HQ's "Reiter's Block" on Thursday, Fitzgerald told Bill Reiter why Cardinals fans should be optimistic about Rosen and their future. "As soon as he stepped on campus, he was pretty mature as a man. He's got a wide array of interests. He's really intellectually curious. Just overall a fun guy to be around," he said. "Football-wise, he's got some experience, got a couple of games under his belt, and every single week he's progressing in the right direction with the reads and accuracy and just his knowledge of the system. He's only going to continue to get better. "We've been decimated on the offensive line, so it's been a struggle for him in that. Besides that, he's been playing outstanding." Larry Fitzgerald joins Reiter's Block (12:11) Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald joins Bill Reiter to discuss Josh Rosen and the Cardinals, life and advice as a veteran of the league, and USAA and the Pat Tillman Foundation. Tune into Reiter's Block every Monday through Thursday at 5 pm ET. -
Barnwell: Picking Bright Spots for the NFL's 16 Worst Teams McDermott and Leslie Frazier have brought along a wildly promising crop of young talent to build around. The star is 23-year-old cornerback Tre'Davious White, who deserved a Pro Bowl nod and didn't get one. The Bills had allowed only two 100-yard receivers before the Lions' Kenny Golladay went off for 146 yards in a loss Sunday, and one of them was Adam Thielen, who required 14 targets to get there. White has helped slow down stars such as Davante Adams(81 yards on 13 targets), DeAndre Hopkins (63 yards on six targets) and T.Y. Hilton (25 yards on four targets) this season. Tremaine Edmunds and 2017 Perfect 53-Man Roster member Matt Milano, who combined to give McDermott the rangy linebackers he built the Carolina defense around before Milano was put on injured reserve earlier this month. Rookie nickelback Taron Johnson, who battled through a shoulder injury before hitting IR himself, also looks to be a keeper. The Bills can afford to spend the offseason investing in badly needed help around rookie quarterback Josh Allen.

NFL Week 16 QB Power Rankings: Philip Rivers is the best quarterback in the NFL right now by Will Brinson Last time we dropped these rankings, I pointed out just how absurd Patrick Mahomesseason has been. And now, I'm going to move him out of the top spot. You know the old saying -- to be the best, you've got to beat the best. And Philip Rivers did just that last Thursday, toppling the Chiefs, exorcising some demons and vaulting himself into the thick of the MVP race with a 14-point, fourth-quarter comeback in Kansas City. Mahomes is still probably going to win the award. He'd need to lay an egg in Seattle and the Chiefs would have to lose and the Chargers would have to win out for that to happen. But these rankings aren't about an MVP debate. It's who I think is playing the best quarterback in the NFL right now. And Philip Rivers -- right now -- is the best quarterback in football. It's a combination of things for him to hit that mark. Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgersare having down years by their lofty standards. Ben Roethlisberger has been up and down depending on the situation (home vs. road, good opponent vs. bad opponent, etc). Jared Goff and Drew Brees have had bad stretches over the last month, give or take. Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson haven't been as consistent as Rivers. Rivers just beat Mahomes. Repeat after me: right now Philip Rivers is the best quarterback in the NFL.

QB Index, Week 16: Ranking QBs from Last Four Drafts Two years after former Browns executive Sashi Brown made the unpopular decision to pass on Carson Wentz, the Browns have a younger, potentially better quarterback in place. This is not an article defending the analytically driven tenure of Sashi, just one that recognizes that the process behind passing up on Wentz eventually resulted in the Browns finally finding their chosen one. Mayfield is part of a blockbuster draft class selected by new Browns GM John Dorsey, while Sashi's underrated 2017 class (Myles Garrett/David Njoku/Jabrill Peppers/Larry Ogunjobi) adds to the stacked young core. Mayfield's arm strength is obvious. But I believe he's the most impressive rookie quarterback to enter the league since Andrew Luck because he displays the same type of anticipation, accuracy, pocket presence and feel for the game that helps make Luck special. There is nothing deferential in Mayfield's game, no concept that he has to bide his time learning as a pro before taking ownership of his team. In honor of Mayfield's decisiveness, there's no point in waiting to say I'd take Mayfield over Wentz, Jared Goff, Deshaun Watson and Dak Prescott long-term. NOTE: For this week's QB Index, I chose the impossible task of ranking the quarterbacks from the last four draft classes with a minimum of 100 pass attempts. They are ranked for the long haul, not how they've performed this season. Mayfield just narrowly misses coming out on top.

Robert Foster I recently detailed how Foster is thriving in his current situation in Buffalo. His talent in college never lead to much production because of injuries and being stuck behind Calvin Ridley, and I likely underrated his traits as a result. Despite labeling Foster as a potential Day 3 selection or priority UDFA due to his obvious athleticism, his play during his rookie season has exceeded even the most bullish of expectations. Now with 94+ yards in four of his last five games, Foster is 5th among rookie wide receivers in yards for the season. At his current pace, he could continue to move up that ranking. With budding chemistry for rookie quarterback Josh Allen, we could be hearing from this young duo for years to come.
