  1. Because he hasn't been a full participant in practice which tells me he's not 100% ready to go. If that's the case, the err on the side of caution and wait until after the bye to start him in week 12 against the Jags.
  2. It’s not easy being Nathan Peterman. Just ask Ed Rutkowski. Fifty years ago, he was Peterman. Rutkowski started at quarterback for the Buffalo Bills then for the same reason Peterman is starting for them now. Namely, everyone else was hurt. "Been there, done that,” Rutkowski, who’s 77, tells USA TODAY. He was known as the Bills’ “disaster quarterback” during that 1968 season. These days the disaster is Peterman’s play. His quarterback rating on this season’s opening day — 0.0 — earned a dreaded Blutarsky, so named for the John Belushi Animal House character who carried a 0.0 GPA. There are key differences. Peterman was drafted as a quarterback while Rutkowski wasn’t drafted at all. And Rutkowski played what seemed like everything other than quarterback during his AFL career — wide receiver and running back and tight end and defensive back and returner of kickoffs and punts — until injuries took out all of the Bills’ real QBs five decades ago.
  3. Running out of bounds last week instead of throwing a Hail Mary would have been it for me as HC. Bye Bye, See Ya, Au revoir, Adios, auf wiedersehen, ciao, and Get the Flock Out!
  4. Quick Hits: No Decision Yet at QB for Sunday for Bills We don’t yet know who the starting quarterback will be for the Bills when they face the Jets at MetLife Stadium Sunday, but we do know one person it won’t be. Derek Anderson was ruled out for Sunday’s game by head coach Sean McDermott on Friday morning, but there hasn’t been a final decision on a starter this week. “We’ll still working through that one day at a time,” said McDermott. “Josh is progressing well. Obviously, it’s his first week back at practice. My main priority was and remains his health as we move forward here.” Josh Allen is working his way back from a throwing elbow injury that has kept him out of the last three games. He will be limited again in practice Friday. Edmunds still in concussion protocol A possible move at tight end?
  5. No doubt he wants Allen to start, but only if he's ready to roll with from a health perspective. He's finally done with Peterman as he should have been long ago. From my vantage point if Allen's not ready to start, then it's best to make him inactive as they head into the bye week.
  6. 7 Things to Watch in Bills-Jets this Weekend Both the Bills and the Jets head into the bye after their game on Sunday. Buffalo has lost four in a row; the Jets have lost three straight. So, recovery and relief are the goal for both AFC East rivals. Here are some of the issues to keep an eye on as the game approaches: 1. SIMILARITIES BETWEEN BILLS AND JETS 2. MORE STRONG PLAY FOR THE BUFFALO DEFENSE? 3. HUGHES LEADING THE WAY 4. HOW TO GET THE OFFENSE GOING? 5. YOUTH MAY BE SERVED 6. TAKEAWAYS 7. LONG TIME PASS RUSH SPECIALIST LIKES QB PROTECTION
  7. McDermott's Friday Presser will be held at the regular time of 10:20 AM ET with practice following at 1. Hopefully, we'll get some clarity on who will start at QB on Sunday. Will post live Twitter and Facebook presser links as they become available: Buffalo Bills Video Live
  8. The Match Game, Part 3: The Mahomes Conundrum In this three-part series, Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar takes a deep dive into how NFL defenses have lost the figurative arms race – and what defensive coaches can do to recover. Part 1 revealed the liabilities inherent in current NFL defensive philosophies. Part 2 took a closer look at the coverage that could bring balance back to NFL defenses. In the conclusion, we discuss the death of defensive innovation, and how match coverage might just reverse that defeatist mentality.
