  1. Brady 'Not Getting into Specifics' on Knee Injury

The New England Patriots' passing offense had its worst day in years.

Tom Brady threw for a paltry 126 passing yards as the Patriots leaned on the ground game to gallop over the Buffalo Bills. New England rushed for 273 yards on 47 combined attempts.

The passing game, however, seems a concern. Brady's 126 pass yards Sunday were fewest pass yards in a game since Week 17, 2014 versus Buffalo, when TB12 played just one half and attempted only 16 passes. Brady completed just 54.2 percent of his 24 pass attempts, marking the third time this season he's been below the 55 percent completion mark.

After the 24-12 victory, coach Bill Belichick noted that the passing game could have been better, but mostly shrugged at making an assertion about the offense.

"Well, I think overall, our passing game will be better, could be better, but we ran the ball well and that offset it," he said. "Some days it's the running game, some days it's the passing game. We'll see what happens next week, but I have a lot of confidence in our quarterback, our receivers, our offensive line, our protection. When we need to throw, hopefully we'll be able to throw if we have to. If we need to run it, hopefully we'll be able to run."

On Monday morning, in his weekly hit on WEEI Radio, Brady added "There were certainly some plays we could have executed better," via NFL Network's Mike Giardi.

Part of the issue for the Patriots pass attack is the dwindling receiving corps. With Josh Gordon suspended and Rob Gronkowski playing with a piano on his back, the Pats have few receivers who can get open.

McDermott is in an interesting position at this point.  Hanging onto a Whaley hold over in Zay Jones has not helped anyone.  Over paying on Star and Murphy instead of putting it into offensive linemen knowing Richie, Wood, and Glenn were gone.  Along with finding a starter in the mixture or reliable tightend puts it offensively in a mess.  Allen is not inaccurate and honestly Daboll catches to much flack he’s found weak spots in defenses and Zay is proving why Doug Whaley is a castoff now working for the XFL.

This is way off base. McDermott and the former Bills' WR coach from ECU are responsible for Zay Jones being in Buffalo.

Foster is Allen's favorite target and could ultimately develop into an electrifying #2, it would take a 2nd for me. Too much potential to dump for a measly 5th round pick, get out of here lol. Dawkins needs to go inside and I think if that were to happen fans would be a lot more supportive. He has value as a LG.

The Bills aren't looking to deal either of them so no need to worry about their trade value.

Foster is averaging over 20 per catch, a 3rd wouldn't get it done for me. Dawkins otoh is a starting LT and probably an above average LG. A 2nd wouldn't do it for me.

Don't worry because no team would offer those picks for either.  Dawkins has regressed from his rookie season and Foster looks very promising but ultimately is unproven.

Dion Dawkins and Robert Foster have value. It would take a 1st in my mind for us to let Dawkins go. Average LT, above average G. Foster's value is unclear, maybe he's worth a 2nd, I certainly wouldn't trade him for a 3rd. We got some value on offense, there's a couple guys.

 Dawkins definitely would not fetch a 1st based on the way he's playing and Foster most certainly wouldn't command a 2nd round pick at this point in his career.

I'd qualify that further and say that while he has some bad games, his most notable tendency is to come up big in big games. Bear in mind that he played really well in that playoff game they lost to NO on the last second in 2013.

He's aquitted himself well in postseason games with excellent performances in 3 of the 4 appearances.

Reading these and several other sports writers takes this morning reveals a similar pattern:  First they say that Allen had a poor day and a couple of the articles claim he "regressed".  Fair enough based on the numbers but not so fair based on actually watching the game.

Then at the end of the article they throw out comments about how there were a lot of drops and that Allen's skill players didn't help him out.  In one article the writer graded Allen as a C- (I would have given him a grade of C+) and then the writer gave the WR's & TE's an F grade!  Now think about that for a moment.  Aren't the 2 related?  If the receivers were so bad they earned an F doesn't that go a long way towards explaining Allen performance?

Take Sal's point in the article above about Allen having a very poor 1st half completing 7/16 passes for 48 yards and a pick.  Fair enough because Allen did look shaky in the 1st half (likely due to the Hoodies screwing with him on D) but did it occur to Sal & company that those two early drops had an impact on Allens confidence?  He is a rookie.  Sal mentions that Allen's stats would have looked better had McKenzie caught his pass and Foster found his - you think!  If you add up those two missed plays then Allen has 95 more yards passing and a TD.  So his 1st half stats go to 9/16 for 143 yards with 1 TD and 1 IT - not to shabby!

You are missing the mark with regard to Allen. It's not all about throws and drops. It's understanding and deciphering what the defense is doing and being able to counteract against it.  As I posted before, it's part of the education of a rookie QB with playing experience being the best teacher.  Not a disastrous day and he'll learn from it.  No need to rush in and defend Allen from criticism.

  9. As expected, Foster was covered for most of the day by Gilmore and he was able to beat one of the NFL's best on a number of occasions.  Gilmore definitely showed respect for his speed after getting singed on the deep route that Foster lost track of the ball in the sun. There was also the another pass on 4th down that he got a hand after making an adjustment in the end zone on that some people consider a drop. Could have again been a huge day for him, but overall he was pretty good (4 catches for 52 yards) with his arrow still pointing up.

  10. Sources: Cardinals Plan to Part Ways with Wilks

The Arizona Cardinals are planning to part ways with head coach Steve Wilks, according to sources, the next likely move in what is shaping up to be the most chaotic head-coaching cycle since 2013, when there were eight changes.

It now seems like a foregone conclusion that the NFL will see at least eight changes this season, and it could mark the most turnover since 11 teams made head-coaching changes in 2009, league sources told ESPN.
