The Dallas News story is about Leach's inability to adjust his techniques to conform to newer attitudes regarding discipline and motivation. Actually, it is pretty safe to assume he will use the same motivational techniques at the NFL level. He's egotistical and arrogant, and his "ways" have been successful. He continued using the same techniques even though attitudes shifted regarding those techniques. Instead of realizing he may have stepped over the line, he lashed out.

Even if there was NOT an interview/offer, it would still be a benefit for Harbaugh's agent to "leak" the alleged offer to Casserly for exactly the same reasons you cited. It would also benefit Harbaugh and his agent for Stanford to "know" about such "offer". Having everybody know you are in "demand" helps with any contract negotiations or re-negotiations. Don't believe any third party sources. Could the source be right? Yes. Could the source be wrong? Yes. And there in lies the problem. We don't know one way or the other. The only thing we can expect as things drag on is the rumor mill to really start cranking out BS.

I think you are confusing/combining employment contracts with other contracts. Most employment contracts have some sort of out clause built in. As long as the parameters of the out clause are met, the employer has no grounds for a lawsuit (they still may try, however). In this case, if Kiffin has an $800k buyout clause (and assuming that is the only parameter of the clause), as long as Tenn receives that $800k, there is not a damn thing the university can do to stop Kiffin from saying "C-ya".

IIRC, when Levy stepped down as GM, it was revealed Marv signed a contract for only 2 years. Why should the finger of blame be pointed at Levy when the team belongs to Ralph? Ralph knew he had only 2 years to find a real GM.
