At some point, it appears the commissioner floated $50M per year per school if the conference switched from network tv rights to one of the subscription based streaming services. The PAC has been negotiating with Apple TV, and the number turned out to be $20M annually. In comparison, the Big 12 recently signed new contracts with ESPN and Fox, getting their programs $32M annually. It's easy to see why schools want out of the PAC 12. Ironically, in hindsight, UT and OU leaving the Big 12 may have been best thing to happen for the Big 12's survival. They can now spread the tv money equally among the schools, and come across as being a stable conference.

San Diego St wanted to join the PAC 12, even notifying the MW conference they were leaving. But, SDSU decided not to leave, and wanted to remain in the MW. https://www.axios.com/local/san-diego/2023/07/19/san-diego-state-university-mountain-west As for the Big12, rumors are AZ, ASU, and Utah also want to jump ship from the PAC possibly to the Big 12. If that happens, the PAC would be toast.

Kiffin on Finebaums view of Saban's legacy: https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/alabama-football/lane-kiffin-takes-shot-at-paul-finebaum-for-commenting-on-nick-sabans-dynasty/ “It’s why we have Finebaum to motivate him every other year and say ‘Oh his dynasty is over,’ and this is the end of Saban and then we’re like, ‘Hey thanks a lot for pissing him off,' Kiffin said."

Oooh. Another 4 star commit. "Turrible news, just turrible"

Deon has 3 years of coaching at the collegiate level in any capacity. When should he have been approached? After one week? "He doesn’t need to be an elite coach. Colorado will do more than turn it around soon enough." If Colorado starts churning out 6-8 wins a season, that will good enough?

"If approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel on April 20, the game clock will continue to run when a first down is gained. Currently, the game clock stops when a first down is gained, and the clock restarts when the offense is awarded a first down. The game clock will continue to be stopped when a first down is gained during the last two minutes of either half." Teams would be prohibited from calling consecutive team timeouts. Penalties at the end of the first and third quarter would carry over and be enforced on the first play of the next quarter. I am all in the last 2. The first one, meh. How much time are we actually talking here? https://www.ncaa.org/news/2023/3/3/media-center-timing-rules-changes-proposed-in-football.aspx

I also think that is an advantage he has. However, I don't think he would pull a Riley and bolt for another team at the first whiff of Clemson joining the SEC. At a press conference last year, Dabo was asked his opinion regarding Clemson fans wanting to join the SEC. Essentially he stated that players come to Clemson because of Clemson and what it can offer. Not what conference they do or do not play in. I think there is a lot of truth in that. As long he can keep Clemson in the talks of a NC every year, Clemson will attract players.

Finally seeing the light, I see.
-
Honestly, can't say. He has some success against SEC teams, so he may not care.
-
Nah, Clemson played the Citadel back in 2020. They have also played UConn and Furman in recent memory. And look, Clemson does have that power house Charleston Southern on their 2023 schedule.
-
Effing seriously?
-
Wow. Wasn't expecting that. Just a few days ago, talks had fallen apart regarding an early departure for UT and OU. It looked for certain SEC expansion was going to have to wait until after 2025.

Bama's newest Cordinators OC - Tommy Rees- OC for ND for the past 3 years. Kelly wanted Rees to follow him to LSU. Rees declined. DC- Kevin Steele- Returns to Bama again. 3rd times a charm? Stop gap? For who then?

Or Saban told him to go pound sand: https://www.foxnews.com/sports/alabamas-nick-saban-rejected-2-players-searching-1-3-million-combined-nil-money-report "Someone with one of the best corners in the nation (in high school) came to me and asked if we’d pay them $800,000 for the player to sign here. I told him he can find another place to play," Saban said, according to Baker High School coach Steve Normand. "I’m not paying a kid a bunch of NIL money before he earns it."

O'Brien gone! https://www.al.com/alabamafootball/2023/01/alabama-offensive-coordinator-bill-obrien-hired-by-new-england-patriots.html Good riddance.

In the PAC, maybe.

All over the sports news, Bama DC has accepted the same position at Ole Miss. Got to admit, I am somewhat on the fence on this. Great recruiter, but it was quite apparent his defenses tended to under perform.

The BCS pitted the consensus #1 vs #2. People bitched. The CFB now includes the consensus top 4. And people are bitching. It will expand to 12 teams. Watch what happens. People will B word after a couple years how the same teams are constantly in it. "The problem in college football has always been that only a very small number of schools actually have a chance." This has been a reality for decades, even during the AP/UPI polling days. It will not change just because "x" amount of teams can now make the playoffs. Adding even less deserving teams to the mix is not going to improve anything. What do you think will happen when those less deserving teams get blown out? Answer: Even more undeserving teams will need to be added! Expand the playoffs to 16! 24!
-
Expanding the playoffs is not going to do jack s**t. The goal posts will be moved, and a new argument will emerge to expand the playoffs even more.
-
Ooh, another awe inspiring, thought provoking, uber intelligent s**t post. Tell us, if the Bills went on a 15 year streak of domination, winning multiple SB to the point where everybody else in the NFL fan base hates them, are you going to sit around and lament about how the Bills are the poster child for everything that is wrong about NFL football?

CFB Playoff Expansion to 12 teams approved
Cynical replied to YoloinOhio's topic in College Football
In 2011, LSU averaged approx 40 points a game during the regular season. In 2011, LSU failed to score even 10 points in only 2 games. Guess which 2. 16 players on the Bama-LSU defenses got drafted. There was some serious talent on those 2 teams, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Would either team "stopped" OSU? Maybe not. Shut outs can be difficult to achieve. But I can confidently say, either team would have done a much better job than Iowa St did at slowing down the OSU offense. And I seriously doubt OSU would have been prepared for any offense LSU or Bama would have brought to the game. -
