It's one of those new fangled Alabama rules.

Not the first time he's been on the list. He was #11 in 2016. He's dropped a spot. i'm thinking of driving over to Tuscaloosa and throwing a brick through his window.

Manziel is playing in the NFL spring developmental league. A two week season being played in Austin. First week was today. https://www.thespringleague.com/ Spurrier is going to be a HC in another non-NFL spring league, starting in 2019. https://aaf.com/

Nah, Flutie was definitely more divisive. It's not even close. When RJ left, nobdoy cared. When Flutie left, there were "Bills fans" (as if they were) who openly rooted for Flutie and the Chargers to beat the Bills in 2001. Also, when Flutie played with the Chargers in 2001, it was interesting to watch the San Diego fan base go through the same exact BS Bills fans went through.

Jesus, how long have you been here? EVERY off season the main board is filled with redundant thread after redundant thread. In reality, there is just not much going on in the NFL right now. If you think Johnny Freefall will bring "electricity" to the NFL, boy, are you going to be disappointed. He was good to watch at aTm because his receivers did most of the work.

Yes, media attention and hype lead to ticket sales. Heck, the Bills signed Terrell Owens just for that purpose. Why? Because the team was bad, and the organization needed something to generate fan interest in the team. Only the foolish (and there were a lot) expected Owens to be the spark that would propel the Bills onto better things. Once again, the foolish paid attention to the hype, the splash, and the image, and were disappointed in the end. But there is a difference in the kind of media attention. Bama gets all kinds of media attention. How good the coach is, how good the program is, etc ... That's the good kind. Manziel got a ****load of media attention while on the Browns. Almost none of it good, and I doubt the Browns were slapping themselves on the back for it. Owens was signed to be a starter. Manziel is a scrub, and is hoping somebody will sign him along with his baggage. You want hype and media attention? Hope the Bills draft one of the top QBs. It will not matter which one. You will have more hype and media attention than you can stand, regardless if the player is actually good or not. And I would vehemently disagree Manziel is a better QB than McCarron. McCarron is going to get an opportunity to compete for a starting position, even if it only ends being temporary. McCarron has proven to be a fierce competitor, a student of the game, and a leader. Manziel is none of that. That's why he's going to play in the Spring League, hoping somebody will believe he got his crap together, turned his life around, and is deserving of another shot in the NFL. I hope he has turned his life around. I truly do. On the football side, IMO, he's not a leader, nor does he have the will power or commitment to become a better player. He's camp fodder at best.
-
Manziel is proof people fall in love with the "flash" and image of a player instead of paying attention to the actual player. Johnny Football owes his collegiate career and draft position to Evans and the other Aggies receivers. They bailed Johnny out constantly. Rex Ryan created a national buzz and media attention for the Bills. How did that work out? Until somebody can show me proof that a correlation exists between media attention and a better team on the field, this has to be one of the stupidest rationale to acquire anyone, whether its a HC or at best, a camp fodder QB. Besides, do you think somebody will actually run out and buy Bills tickets just because JF made the camp fodder list?

What ya'll are getting with AJ
Cynical replied to RollBillsRoll's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Loved AJ when he came out of college. Would have snapped him up in the 3rd or 4th round in a heartbeat. Why do people think guys like Mayfield are franchise material and Aj is not? Because people get caught up in the "flash" and highlight reels. (See Johnny Football) With AJ, he played at Bama, that actually hurts him. People consider him a system guy, and cannot possibly be that good. Looking forward to see him play. Oh, yeah. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!! Cannot wait for A Game. Hoping to see Tua grab the starting spot. -
Jalen Hurts fulfills lost bet. I love this guy.

https://www.ndinsider.com/football/notre-dame-football-to-vacate-wins-after-ncaa-denies-appeal/article_88e31422-b28a-11e7-a1a8-63391e5141e7.html I know the NCAA wants schools to self report violations, but every time I read something like this, I ask myself what's the incentive for the school. IIRC, there was a study done a few years that showed schools that self reported got bigger penalties than schools that lawyered up after the NCAA came sniffing around.

No, it was not. 2007 was the worst. In 2009, Saban won the NC. 2018 is his smallest class, which impacts the final rankings. Will the turnover the past 2 years have an impact? Sure it will. The beginning of the end? This where I have to . I have heard this song and dance before. In 2013, Auburn won the SEC and went on to lose the NC. Afterwards, I had to hear how Gus Malzahn was going dominate the SEC and own Saban. Since then, Gus is 1-3 vs Saban, and with 1 SECCG appearance where he got curb stomped in a rematch with UGA. In 2015, after losing to Ole Miss, I heard how Bama's dominance was over. The demise of Saban has begun. 3 straight NC appearances and 2 titles later ... Saban has proven he can adapt and develop talent he does land, regardless of the coaches he has on staff. That was my point. And as you pointed out, Kirby still has yet to prove that. Besides, you think Bama will continue to have the turnover it has had the past 2 years? You better hope not. That means Bama is on top or near the top, and once again, teams are looking to pluck from the best.
-
And if he doesn't? Oh, please. Why is it after some perceived Alabama "setback", people start yammering about the demise of Saban and Bama. It's not like Bama is suddenly scraping the bottom of the barrel in recruiting. Saban has 6 NC across 2 different programs with 3 different DC and at least 5 different OC. IMO, the loss of assistant coaches might have an impact, but I don't think it's going to be as bad as you hope.

Tosh Lupoi has been named/promoted as Bama's new DC. http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2018/02/alabama_expected_to_promote_to.html#incart_river_index

Why doesn't the NFL change Defensive PI to 15 yards?
Cynical replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How does that make it less subjective? It's still up to the human official to determine who made the contact. -
I did not list how it was fixed. I listed how 3 different groups came to the same conclusion. So unless you can supply some kind of proof of collaboration among the 3 groups so they all produced the same rankings, it's not "fixed" or "rigged". As for Auburn, the last time I looked, got stomped by UGA in the SECCG. There are 128 teams across 10 divisions plus independents. How do you standardized that? Do you block the independents from playoff eligibility? If the independents are allowed to play, what methodology or test is used to make that determination?
-
What is there to fix? Before the post season, the CFB Playoff rankings, the AP rankings, and the coaches poll rankings all had the same 4 teams. Yes, congrats to the undefeated UCF Participation National Champions.

Eh, I am always skeptical of what Kiffin says. He will say and do things just to cause controversy and chaos. That said, I do not think he was totally wrong. Saban had 2 QB's transfer on him after Hurts won the starting gig last year, so it was a real possibility. I do think Tua would have transferred if he thought he had no chance for an open QB challenge in the spring.

UGA QB Jacob Eason to transfer to Washington
Cynical replied to YoloinOhio's topic in College Football
Completely expected after he lost the starting gig to Fromm. And UGA just replaced him with a highly rated recruit from GA this signing period. -
1st half was rough. But what I have learned about Saban during his tenure: Never, EVER, under estimate Saban. He might not always win, but I do not think there is anybody better at finding ways to win.
-
I agree, Tau is not going anywhere yet. Much to the delight of Bama fans every where. What you saw was a taste of Tau. He has done more than play "one half of college ball and made one good pass". Saban has no problem in letting his backups get playing time as a game and the season progresses. At least twice during the regular season, Tau has played the second half in ball games. And he has been dynamic, and a play maker every time. Don't take my word for it, here is a LSU faithful describing one of Tau's play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arq4O3S6FiQ
