With Oklahoma, Missouri & LSU losing today the Top 5 will be...
Cynical replied to Mark Vader's topic in College Football
Why not? Bama sat out this week, and that has a tendency to work against the team on how it's ranked. Penn State is now 7-0, and they got the last one by walking into Madison, WI, and blowing out the Badgers. -

Actually, I would not be surprised to see Texas and Penn State ranked above Bama. In fact, I hope both teams end up that way. Still too early in the season to be #1. That just puts a big fat target on the teams back. I agree with you about about BYU. They should definitely be ahead of USC. The biggest joke is/was Auburn. How does a 4-2 team who beat teams like Miss. St and Tenn with scores like 3-2 and 14-13 even deserve to be in the top 25? Over teams like NC, Mich St, and even Wake Forest? I suppose with this newest loss to Arky, Auburn will drop to 25. -
The Two best Teams in the NCAA are OU and Mizzou!
Cynical replied to Stl Bills's topic in College Football
Great! I hope the Mizzou players and coaches feel the exact same way. Then when the Tigers get their jaw jacked by a real smash mouth team (and it doesn't even have to be Bama), it will be fun watching you trying to explain what happened. Have they scored every time they touched the ball? No? That means they can be stopped. It doesn't have to be 3 and out. 5 and out will do. 6 and out will do. Unless that player is a DL or LB, it will not matter. Having Moore tackle a RB 5-6 yards past the LOS is NOT a good thing. Smash mouth teams thrive on getting 5-6 yards a crack. That's their intent. You are right. We do have a difference of opinion, and the argument is somewhat dumb. Mizzou ran the scores up on teams like UB and Nevada. Meanwhile, Bama has played 2 (alleged) top 10 teams, both of the wins took place away from Bryant-Denney Stadium. And you might want to consider those facts before you run your mouth again. -

I am not saying Bama would shut down Mizzou, but I seriously doubt Mizzou will hang 40+ points on Bama. You're to focused on how does anybody stop the Mizzou O. They do not have to stop it. They just need to keep it in check, preventing the shoot out. The question you seem to miss: How does the Mizzou D prevent the Bama O from controlling the game, and dictating the tempo? -

Seconds maybe the only thing the Mizzou offense will ever get. The Bama D "ain't" the UB D. -

Yeah, yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah ... I've heard the same thing about Clemson (how will Bama contain Thunder and Lightning - more like Fizzle and Drizzle) I've heard the same thing about Georgia (how will Bama ever deal with Stafford and Knowshon "NoShow" Moreno) Bama is playing old school ball. A punishing running game and strong D. It would be hard to score when the Mizzou offense is standing on the sidelines watching the Bama offensive line grind that Mizzou defense into the turf. -
A question about the "wildcat" offense the Dolphins use
Cynical replied to Justice's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I haven't watched any Dolphins game this year, but that sounds pretty similar to Houston Nutt's WildReb (f/k/a WildHog when he was at Arky) offense. I may have to watch the next Dolphin game to see. Maybe they will bring back the Wishbone and the Veer. -
What would a loss to San Diego say, since Miami beat em?
Cynical replied to Since 1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fixed it. And I agree with your post. The Bills need to win the division to guarantee a playoff spot. It does not matter if they do it as 10-6 team or a 14-2 team. If they do lose to the Chargers (and I am not so sure they will), it will be just another game to learn from, and move forward. -
And here I thought it was the drugs that did that.
-
Beautiful, isn't it? Auburn nation is now in meltdown mode.

Linky Keep dreaming Tubby. As the story points out, you are also only two plays away from being 2-3. Your "War Chicken" offense is laughable as evident by your "blow out" wins over Miss. St. and Tennessee. But even you finally figured that out: Dead Spread

Why does everybody think he would be sedate? I remember Levy having a similar demeanor, but when he was miked up, he had no problem throwing out the obscenities. I distinctly remember one where he kept telling the ref a particular call was a "chickensh!t" call.

Yep.

And now "JawJa" ROLL TIDE ROLL!!

The Bills only decide a portion of their opponents record (In this case, one third. And to point out the obvious, by the end of the year, it will be 1/16th). So, remove the Bills influence all together. What's left? Seahawks, Jags, and Raiders are all 1-1, for a combined 3-3 (.500). Not exactly a gauntlet of a schedule. It is only week 3, and nothing is written in stone until the end of the year. However, based on what we have seen so far, the Bills have faced some mediocre opponents. Of the 3 teams the Bills faced so far, I think Jacksonville will be the only team that will have a shot at the playoffs.
-
If the 2008 Bills had lost all three games to their 2008 counterparts, the opponents record combined would be 6-3, and half this board would be under suicide watch.
-
Seahawks and Jags. So what?. The 2008 Bills are not playing the 2007 Seahawks and Jags. As of right now, the three opponents the 2008 Bills have played have a combined record of 3-6.
-
Let's take it one step further. Assume the Chargers only go 3-1, losing only to the Pats*. Would the Chargers still be considered "the test"? How about if the Chargers go 2-2? Losses to NE and the Jets (Favre now knows 8 plays). Personally, the Bills are contenders NOW. With the loss of Brady, NE no longer has a lock on the division title, and the soft schedule being dealt to the Bills, a wildcard spot is practically being handed to us. Anything less, a certain HC of a certain Buffalo team needs to be shown the door. Excuse time is over.

Personally, I think this WAY overblown by the JP Losman haters / Trent Edward lovers. In fact, many of them wanted to run Evans off the team, because he had the audacity to stick up for JP and the way he was being treated.
-
Edwards has NOT played against 2 top 5 defenses. As it stands now (and subject to change during the year): The Seahawks defense is horrible - they rank 29th in points and 25th in yards The Jags are 11th in points and 13th in yards. Granted, the Jags are not a shabby defense, but a top 5? No.

I wasn't trying to be funny. The team has no sense of direction, coaches are taking verbal shots at each other in public, and the loony owner is trying force the resignation of his head coach. Raiders are a joke. Period. Right now, I think one of the High Schools from Hoover, Al. could whip the out of the Raiders.
-
I'll consider the Raiders as an NFL team when Al figures out who the coach will be. Once he figures that out, we will have to wait another five years before the Raiders can be taken seriously.

While looking at the past will not always predict the future, analyzing past performance does reveal trends and tendencies, especially those tendencies taken to correct problems that appear before, during, and after a season. In an eerily similar situation in Chicago after the 2000 season, after 2 losing seasons, the OC quits the team to take on a college HC position. Jauron promotes the QB coach to OC. History shows how well that turned out. Considering DJ did not interview even one outsider for the Bills OC spot (after Fairchild left for a HC position at a college), is the promotion of the Turk to the OC based on Jauron's ability to properly assess the needs of the OC spot, or he did just essentially pick the QB coach because that is what he is comfortable with doing? And despite the "horrendous" ending of the TD/MM era, Levy attempted to retain MM. That brings into question just how "dire" the state of the Bills organization was in that you attempt to promote. Further, if Bledsoe was not stymied by a bunch of defensive third stringers, the Bills would have made the playoffs under Mularkey. Would this have proved Mularkey was not a bad hire? As it has been shown repeatedly, other coaches of questionable ability have also won Coach of The Year. Being a winner of the COTY proves nothing other than he won an award. And he did not willing leave Detroit, he was FIRED. Previously in this thread, I declared my three benchmarks. I set those benchmarks for a reason. My desire is to see the Bills become a SB contender every year. Not just once every "x" years. I will not accept playoff contender as "success", especially a coach/team that can only achieve it once every 'x' years. Maybe my standards are just too high. But I have seen people post here who are willing to accept Jauron back as a HC even if the Bills go 7-9 again, and that boggles my mind. Are people so desperate for "success", or any semblance of success, they will talk themselves into accepting failure because they found something positive in it?

Until proven otherwise, it is still an aberration. As of right now, Jauron has coached a team to ONE winning season in seven. Even if he coaches this team to a winning record this season (he should, given the pretty soft schedule the Bills have been handed), that still makes him 2 out of 8. Oh, wait. you were being serious. We should completely forget his past discretions, because he won TWO games this year? Wow. I see a bunch of assumptions being made with no real supportive data. How were the Bills "horrendous" that led them to 5-11 record? The only data you presented to support your conclusion of "better game control and decision making" is his winning record of ref challenges. You better have more than that. Many posters on this board were pretty pissed off at the way Jauron at times would allow his team to take a knee to end the first half without attempting to generate a point of somekind. Jauron's past spotty record includes waiving the previous season's starting QB and declaring the newly drafted rookie QB the teams starter: 1. days before training camp actually started 2. said rookie QB was NOT even signed yet. What brilliance. While you realize you cannot declare victory, you want your opponents to declare defeat. Priceless. Beautiful. Jauron has a lot to prove, has done some bad things .... However, two games into this season and it is obvious all past screw ups were actually "nothing". Ask Bears fans if they felt the same way in 2001. Jauron does have a lot prove. He needs to prove he can win consistently against the better teams in the league. He needs to prove he can win consistently from season to season. He needs to prove he can actually win a playoff game. Until he reaches those benchmarks, Jauron has proven he is nothing more than an mediocre HC. 7 years of futility will not be washed away by 2 games in a soft season.
