Chiefs v Dolphins in Frankfurt Germany
TheFunPolice replied to Aussie Joe's topic in The Stadium Wall
Chiefs will try to hang on now but Dolphins are 100% tying this one up Let's see what happens. We're at the part of the game where the team behind has all the momentum It's just a matter of the clock now -

Refs: is there anything we can do here? -
Yes, and I agree that it's ruining the game. If any team (not just the Bills) make a 3rd or especially 4th down stop in a big moment there's a flag seemingly 3/4 of the time to extend the drive. Between illegal contact, defensive holding, or pass interference there's always a call there to get made and the WR will flip out and spastically scream for a flag as the crowd is going nuts and you just know it's going to be thrown. Which is why you have to do everything possible to take it out of the refs hands at the end of the game. Make sure you're up by 9+ points when the opponent has their final drive or You're playing against them and the refs

Rodgers, Cousins and White all looked totally normal in terms of the play itself and how they were moving right before it happened.

how about that Giants guy wiping out our starting RT with a blindside hit way after the whistle? I've wondered this too... There's tons of stories about past guys playing with torn or partially torn ACL's and just wearing braces. Guys used to be more reckless and gave zero F's whereas now they are a lot smarter and think longer term about keeping their bodies healthy for a longer career vs. just playing through anything. Either way, you're not playing with a torn achilles though. It seems those are suddenly a thing, but maybe it's bad luck.

A commonality among the Bills recent signings

I freaking LOVE the Linval Joseph signing! He is a real life version of a guy I would create in Madden as a DT. Also love that he's coming in totally fresh for the stretch run. Shows he is incredibly smart too. Not that injuries can't happen later in the season, but he didn't go down with some nagging injury in week 3 or 4 in a game nobody is going to remember or care about come January. The man is 100% in early November and ready to contribute when it matters most. -
I've had the same thoughts and wondered if it was just me. So many star players out for the season before Thanksgiving even hits. Where it really hurts is the playoffs, where it's supposed to be stars vs stars. Like many here, I've watched way too many hours of football for decades, and it just SEEMS (although I haven't done in-depth research) like there are far more season-ending type injuries now than ever before. Especially achilles. It's like every week someone tears it and is done for the year. You know it's bad when they preview primetime games and show a picture of a star player for each team (almost always 2 QBs) and instead it's a WR and a DL. Nothing against those guys, but you know what I'm getting at. It's not Rodgers vs Tua, it's Tua vs Breece Hall. That type of thing. All of those Brady vs Manning or Rodgers vs Manning games. Imagine if those guys missed and it was Brady vs Brissett or Manning vs whoever Rodgers backup used to be. It's just not the same games. Takes a lot of the enjoyment and intrigue out of it. It's interesting that injuries decrease as the year goes on. Then again, the number of achilles injuries is just odd. Is it not being flexible enough, or just plain bad luck? They almost never look bad at the time they happen, just routine tackles or non-contact injuries.

Of course there's a flag... Is there anything more predictable than the refs throwing a flag on 4th down? Happened to us 117 times on the Bucs 2nd to last drive -

I just can't get over the fact that Levis drinks mayonnaise. -
why would Bill agree to be traded? I get why NE would prefer that. They get to control where he goes, do the whole "we don't want you but we also don't want you to succeed somewhere that might hurt us" dance. If any coach has earned the right to either stay or decide his next landing spot it's Belichick. That said, maybe he wants to go to Washington for some reason and the Patriots are happy to help make that happen, so they sign him to a massive contract to ensure he is taken care of if it doesn't go well there. I assume the contract comes with him if there is a trade.

I always liked Elam, so I'm good with it, just shocked since they seem determined that he is not going to play
-
for both of these injuries I would worry that the players would be healthy enough to play but would have lost significant strength in key areas while they were healing that they wouldn't be able to recover in that period of time. Next season, sure, but they have to heal AND also get leg strength/pec strength back to be effective. I would think that pec strength for a DL is huge, with all the pushing off of guys to break blocks.
-
After reading his bio from the Bills I'm an even bigger fan Benford and Jackson have been doing pretty well and we have our safeties. Douglas will be a nice player for the defense and didn't cost a ton. I'm shocked Elam is still here, so MAYBE he flashes when given a chance (if that ever occurs) and suddenly we have a room full of solid CBs.

seems like a pretty good trade deadline type move solid CB who can play and has another year on his deal

I'm so used to weekly, in-depth updates on Rodgers achilles accompanied by regular social media posts that hearing nothing at all about injuries to major players on the team is strange. Jones did post on Instagram a picture of him at the Tampa game wearing a shoulder sling, so that's something I guess.
