  1. I was reading an article that quoted a surgeon who works on these types of injuries and his take was that it would be quick but not impossible, and the risk would not really be hurting the Achilles again but hurting something else in the knee, ankle or leg trying to compensate for it. Apparently there was a Russian gymnast who competed in the Olympics just 3 months after tearing his achilles, and of course a gymnast is landing on it, exploding off of it, putting a ton more force on it than a QB.
  2. I'm amazed at how Gabe suddenly has incredible days like the 13 seconds game, where he was literally unguardable and scored like 11 times (it seemed).
  3. That's what I'm saying. Aaron wants Zach in there and is pushing hard for him to stay in. The Jets were the team that wanted to give Aaron whatever it took for him to be happy.
  4. It wouldn't really, because it's the coach's decision, but there would be no locker room divide the way there might otherwise be. That's the reason Zach is not getting benched, and why the Jets never made any real move at QB when Rodgers went down. Aaron is coming back this season and it's Zach's job to hold down the fort and be a good soldier and step aside when/if the time comes.
  5. reason: Rodgers loves Zach and Rodgers is Zach's idol. No matter what, if/when Rodgers is ready to come back Zach would 100% step aside without any hard feelings because he's one of Aaron's biggest fans. Even if the Jets were 10-3 under Wilson that's his hero and he would look at it as having done his part to keep the team alive for Rodgers return.
  6. National guys always have the scoops on what is going on with the Bills. Never the local guys.
  7. I listened to Cowherd on a long drive yesterday talk about how McDermott is Chuck Knox. Cleans up messes, wins a lot of games, but then hits a ceiling. His point is McDermott has hit his ceiling and now the team is going backwards. He also compared him to the "organizer" in your family who is great with details, can plan everything out and get everyone on the right page. None of that means he's a bad coach or anything, but that he's not as good as many think he is. He's not on the level of the top coaches that the Bills are going to face in the biggest games. He called him rigid and stuck in his ways because his ways have gotten him this far. Like Marty Shottenheimer. He was pretty spot on, I think.
  8. Not a fan of the idea given his sign stealing scandal.
  9. That definitely fits me this season! because he didn't feel comfortable that it was sustainable and he's the HC and wants a more balanced approach that he thinks is more sustainable
  10. BTW I'm not saying McDermott is necessarily wrong either, because look at the Dolphins. It seemed like their offense was legitimately unstoppable. Then they play some real teams AND Waddle gets banged up and they score 10, 14 points against those teams. Maybe he also saw what happened with Newton and wanted to avoid that with Allen. That also makes sense. Daboll was building a name for himself to get a HC gig and players don't think about preserving themselves...they think about winning and making plays right now. I'll just assume you're kidding and don't actually think that was what the text I wrote was saying.
  11. Very much so. They steamrolled teams by running the ball and Cam would make the timely throws. Newton really was Superman that season. It's incredible how quickly he fell off after that.
  12. To be fair, I don't think Jauron wanted a "Jauron style offense", but when your QBs are horrible and you have no offensive skill players to speak of that's what you get. I'm not saying McD didn't want to score points and win, obviously he does. I think the issue was that McD was uncomfortable with that STYLE of scoring points because he probably saw it as unsustainable or not going to work in the playoffs. I also don't necessarily blame McD. His instincts and football acumen got him this HC job, and ultimately he's responsible.
  13. McDermott and McDaniel spend 2 minutes hugging midfield postgame but Daboll barely gets a tap on the hand and basically zero acknowledgement from McD after working here with him so closely for that long? McD's team won the game and he still seemed furious or salty about something. Tellingly, the first thing that happens right after is Allen gives Daboll a huge hug and they laugh and chat.
  14. I never said he was fired. I said McD kind of had to accept that Daboll was going to go rogue and do it his way and couldn't really do anything about it without losing the locker room, which probably drove him nuts. I see people can't read well. I did write a lot of text, so it's probably my fault. Check out sentence #2.
  15. I'm no fan of Dorsey, but I think what we're seeing is the type of offensive approach that McDermott has ALWAYS wanted. Not that he doesn't want points, but he wants "balance." McD is a smart guy, a great defensive mind, but also an Alpha. This is HIS team. He has an idea of how to win. The difference with Daboll was that he did it his way, throwing 10-15 times in a row to start games and having guys flying all over the place. Allen was a bulldozer. The offense was cranking. I think McDermott was uncomfortable with that approach and probably tried to get Daboll to change and that's the cause of the obvious tension between the 2 that got worse and worse until the end. At the end of the day, McDermott couldn't say too much because it was working and the team was winning and the players would have probably sided with Daboll if things blew up about it, so McDermott had to just go along with it. Why else would McD have such hard feelings about Daboll? And he does, we don't need to argue the blatantly obvious. Obviously McD wants wins. Ultimately the HC gets the most credit, along with the QB. So it's a tense standoff. If it came down to a "him or me" argument McD might not have been the owner's (or superstar QBs) choice when the offense is scoring at will and Allen is becoming a superstar and the team is winning "because of offense" (which also must have driven him crazy on some level). It was also the defense that let the team down in 13 seconds. As a HC, I can see how he might see it as Daboll trying to one up him. I could see him feeling disrespected, regardless of the outcome of it. He's the HC and it's supposed to be his program, but the OC was a big personality who was getting all sorts of credit for doing the opposite of what McD wanted. What was McD going to do? Fire him? There would have been a mutiny. McD would have lost the locker room. But now, Dorsey is just a guy and McDermott can put his stamp on the offense. Now offensive guys are frustrated, unhappy, and want their offense back, regardless of who is calling the plays. That's the reason for the Diggs outbursts, Allen's malaise, and Florio's obnoxious "Jenga tower" articles after every Bills loss. My theory anyway as to what is going on with the offense. I'm not sure how much it matters who the OC is.
  16. The only way around this is to hire a Chan Gailey type with tons of experience who isn't looking to become a HC again. I don't mean him specifically, but someone like that. That's the way to go here. McDermott is a good defensive mind but he needs a CEO for the offense. Go get an old proven offensive guy who would want to work with Allen, win a bunch of games, and maybe win a ring. But who isn't going to be plucked as a HC given his age/lack of desire to do that again.
  17. Aaron Rodgers likes Zach and Rodgers is Zach's idol. That's it. No matter the record, IF Rodgers is ready to come back Wilson would never be a problem.
  18. This is one of the problems, IMO. Everyone, including Beane, works for McDermott. That's not exactly unheard of, but usually it's a coach who has proven himself first. Then Dorsey works for Allen, basically. Of course not "officially." Remember when Allen commented (a few years back) that if he didn't love it they aren't running it? Yeah, well it seemed like Daboll's response was that he'll take it under advisement. Now run the damn play. I feel like Dorsey's response would be "yes sir!" The hierarchy is muddled.
  19. I like McDermott and think he's a great defensive mind. That said, it's time for people to feel a bit uncomfortable. That's how you grow. Time for an OC that isn't someone's "buddy" but has real credentials on offense. Daboll can be a real you know what, he's not some loveable teddy bear. Daboll was the boss of the offense. Dorsey seems like a colleague.
  20. I think it's the opposite. To me, Allen (and McDermott) both come across as wanting more than anything in the world to win for this team and this city. What I've noticed is that Josh just sounds defeated. I keep saying it, but Josh's "same s*** different day" comment right after the week 1 loss to the Jets was a window into his mindset. Same ***? It was week 1! It's one game and already the "here we go again" stuff was there. That tells me there is long-term frustration and discontent that is real and not something we can wish away when national reporters (who ALWAYS have Bills scoops over the local Buffalo guys) report on it. I think that comes from not knowing what to do to fix things and get the offense back, and the frustration that comes from that. To work like crazy, prepare, study, practice and then come up with those results on a regular basis now has got to eat away at you. You can "work harder" all you want but if your effort is going in the wrong direction it doesn't matter.
  21. I think McDermott is the problem. That's probably why there's bad blood with him and Daboll. McDermott wanted a wimpy boring offense and Daboll just did whatever he wanted. And it worked and everyone loved it, which probably hurt McDermott's pride. Then his beloved defense blew the 13 seconds game. Obviously everyone on the team was aware of the tension and I'll bet many sided with Daboll. His side of the ball was rolling. Now Dorsey is just some guy that Josh hoped would be Daboll but McDermott can control him so it's bland vanilla offense
