Jets hire Robert Saleh as HC
TheFunPolice replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed! The Bills just had the most productive seasons for a WR and QB in franchise history. With the "defensive minded" McDermott. Every so often you still see those conservative tendencies show themselves for a bit, then it's like he snaps out of it and puts the pedal to the metal again. Same with how NE went from "shutdown the other team and win 17-13" to "score 50 points a game" under Belichick. Great coaches know both sides of the ball. Saleh has shown himself to be a very good defensive coach. It will be interesting to see his approach to the entire team. -

I could certainly see that. That's a good point. -

Urban Meyer will quit in a year or two. The guy is just not someone you plan on for the long haul. These big-time college coaches seem to struggle to adjust, although I will say that Saban was 15-17 and Chip Kelly was 26-21 in 3 years with Philly. Chip especially was more an issue of personality, because he did have a winning record there. Saban came from the pros and would do just fine there again, if he really wanted to. But he has such a good thing going in Alabama, where he is revered and wins almost every single game because he can scoop up any recruit he wants, so why leave that? It would be like having twice the salary cap of every other NFL team and just signing anyone you want. -

and you've got a fanbase in Detroit starting petitions for them to hire the guy. If you're Saleh, Detroit is a MUCH better job for tons of reasons, not the least of which is a QB who can play. -
Anonymous Dolphins players: not sold on Tua

hopefully Miami will be the like the Jauron era Bills... Tough team, media darlings at times, go on a little streak here and there, but missing the QB to really compete. I don't think NE is done by any stretch. If they sign Fitz or someone like him and return half their defense that opted out they could be dangerous. -
https://www.buffalorumblings.com/2010/1/13/1249275/brian-schottenheimer-declines I am going to "go with my gut" like he did when he turned down a chance to be head coach here and say no thanks! BTW, THIS is why just about every coordinator who has a shot at HC wants it. One day you're the hotshot turning down head coaching interviews, the next you're almost totally forgotten. Gotta cash in when you can. Lots of interesting names in that article too... What a different world we're in now!

"I thought it would be harder" is my favorite karma quote of this season! -

I was hoping for his sake that he got the Lions job. Talk about a total screw up by that organization. Fans clamoring for the guy. Local guy. Top candidate. QB in place, just need to fix the defense. No worries about fans accepting the move and buying in; in fact, it would have built some excitement and good will. And he goes to the Jets because they sat around and did nothing! LOL -
They almost have to hire Bienemy at this point, if they want to appease Watson. He complains that they didn't even interview the guy he really wants as HC, so they interview the guy and then don't hire him. That's almost worse. Bienemy has literally everything you would want in a head coach to pair with a dynamic young QB except head coaching experience. I wonder if there is some truth to the story that came out about Bienemy not interviewing that well. Some people who are really good at what they do just don't excel in the interview format, while other coaches ace the interview but are terrible at the job. How many awful coaches from the early 2000'sdid we hear "blew the team away" in the interview process?

I thought the NFL made it so you couldn't trade coaches
