I don't get it... The Rams recently won a SB with Stafford, and this year came close to beating the Eagles in the playoffs in Philly. LA has a 25 year old coach who is supposedly burned out already and wants to retire and go into broadcasting every other offseason, so this is just an odd situation all around.

I'd go 3 years, 40 million, 100% guaranteed. Then draft a RB next year and develop him and let Cook go to free agency after the 3 years. That way you get prime Cook years, he gets good $$, and you don't have a bad contract. A guy making plays all over the field for you and earning $13.3 million is never a problem.

The truth is he has just as much chance to win here as he would anywhere else. Pegula will spend $, McDermott at least has a stable program, and the team will always be able to attract top free agents and OC's. Where else is he going to go that would improve his chances? wherever he goes that team becomes a contender because of him. But then there's everything else. People mention the Rams. Every year it's "will McVay retire?" there. Does he want to go somewhere that the coach is like 25 years old but already wants to retire because he's already burned out?

It was their SB to finally win. After all the heartbreak they had a chance to go up 17-6 at the half. When Odomes got that INT with about 1:00 left before half and the bills up 10-6 that was the opportunity. The Bills got all the way to the Dallas 12 but had to settle for a FG to go up 13-6 at the half and never scored again. Let's say they go up 17-6 at the half. They also got the ball after the half. Go up 24-6 there and guys start to believe. Dallas players in that 4 falls documentary said it: the Bills were outplaying them and Aikman was concussed and out of it. they figured it might finally be the Bills time given the circumstances. Instead, it was 13-6 at half and a few plays into the 3rd quarter Thurman fumbled and it was returned for a TD to tie the game 13-13 and the entire team melted. Hey, at least they had fun at the parties!

My prediction is that if the Bengals don't pay to keep Higgins Burrow is going to go nuclear. It might not be this season, but soon. He's been yapping a lot about contracts all year. He knows how the Bengals like to operate: cheap and irrelevant (yet profitable!) if possible, but if we luck into a QB pay that one guy and hit the bargain bin for the rest of the team, staff, and facilities. Heck, they JUST finally built their first indoor practice facility! I predict Carson Palmer Part Two, except Burrow is a superstar, social media exists now, and players in general are much more powerful in the league. Can you imagine if a guy like Burrow demanded a trade? IMO It's going to get ugly. They already hollowed out the defense. Now they will hollow out the offense and put it all on Burrow and maybe 1-2 other star players. The fact that they made it to the Super Bowl was validation that what they are doing is working, at least to the people running the team. That was also before they had to sell naming rights to pay Burrow and before they started cutting costs elsewhere. If Higgins walks and Burrow has another borderline MVP season while the Bengals miss the playoffs I think you'll see it happen next offseason.

Pay Cook. He's one of our players who shows up and makes plays when the games are biggest (except when he's standing there on the freaking sideline holding his helmet when we need a drive in the AFC Title Game, but I digress...) That's a skill you can't put a price tag on. The guy is excellent at what he does and is one of our few reliable offensive weapons. Remember that Cook took a few seasons to really develop. We don't want to start over right now at RB. This team needs some urgency.

I'm going to be 100%, totally, completely, and (honestly) a little uncomfortably honest with you. Guys like Brady and Manning skewed fans ideas of how long QBs can play. Manning only retired because his neck gave out. Brady only retired because his body started to give out and he barely made it through his last season. The guy looked like he weighed 150 pounds by the end. He knew he was done. But both of those guys were football, football, football almost at all costs. Not everyone is wired that way, nor is it realistic. For every Brady there are going to be a bunch of guys who made bank and want to retire somewhat earlier in order to minimize long term pain and maximize long term health while enjoying time with family. Hard to say where Josh will be on that in the future with a wife and (possibly) a family. That said, I think we have 7 excellent "Josh Allen experience seasons" left, which admittedly isn't a lot of swings at the prize. He'll turn 29 this May. 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 Once he hits his 35 or 36 year old season he'll still be good, but some of the dynamic play we've seen and crazy athleticism just won't be the same. He'll still be great for 3-4 more seasons, IMO, but he'll look different out there than he does now 36 37 38 So that brings us to 10 seasons of top QB level play, with 7 more elite level seasons. All of this is also dependent on how long he wants to play and avoiding major injuries. Josh does have excellent skills as a passer, so he doesn't rely as much on pure athleticism. But there are no guarantees. Cam Newton was an incredible player and almost overnight it was gone due to injury that he just never recovered from. This team has to seize opportunity while it's there.

I'm just looking at a key offensive player who puts up TDs, moves the chains, and is consistently making plays for us. To me that's worth 14 mil a year for a short term deal.

Good lord can you imagine Beane drafting Maybin? Beane on draft night: "he has some great physical tools and a great attitude, everything you want... we just need him to slim down some..." Maybin would have weighed 190 pounds on this Bills team

This is such a weird story to blow up if it never happened. I think it did happen, but both sides want it to go away because Jacksonville's HC just responded by saying "Duuuuuuuvalllll!" with that clown like smile. Jacksonville wants all 12 of their fans to settle down and renew season tickets, and the Steelers don't want it out there that they tried to trade for a QB in case they are stuck with Russ. Plus then whatever the Steelers do at QB wasn't their first choice.

McDermott gets Allen's entire career. And he's certainly good enough to win a SB. Plenty of "meh" head coaches have gotten one because of either an all time great QB or a great team performance in that game. Just have to get there. Every year that goes by it'll be "golly, he's won so many games here... the drought... the Sabres " And if (God forbid) injuries lead to a bad record? Well, come on, the guy deserves a mulligan! Thus, he gets Allen's entire career here. It just is what it is. I just hope he changes his defensive philosophy because it doesn't work against good QBs. I don't think that's crazy, because he has shown an ability to adapt.

At those rates, pay Shakir, Cook, and Bernard. Benford is good but not worth that much $$ I want to pay guys that make plays. Shakir always makes plays. Cook always makes plays. So pay them.

The Bengals matter because of Burrow. And they had to sell naming rights to pay for his contract. IMO the owner is awful, the facilities are a running joke, and when I think of the Bengals headquarters I picture wood paneling, lots of brown, orange and yellow colors, cigarette smoke slowly filling the air while guys drink 3 hour old coffee with powdered creamer and eat gas station lunch sandwiches that they were able to get for free just before they were thrown away for the day. All that said, THAT team made it to a Super Bowl. All because of Burrow. But I foresee some nastiness in the relationship in the future once guys start walking out the door to preserve the "bottom line."
