  1. It would be fun to watch, just for the intrigue. But as management, if Love falls on his face early in the year then even more leverage goes to Rodgers in that scenario. Suddenly the team is in a mess and they would need Rodgers to help them out, either by coming back to play for them (and in doing so basically getting whatever he wants) or agreeing to unretire and accept a trade.
  2. A straight up Wilson for Rodgers trade would be interesting. That's the only NFC trade I could see. It also makes some sense, as both guys seemingly want out. I would say it's good for both sides.
  3. I'm in favor of the the Bills keeping all the OTs Look at KC in the SB. You are going to have guys miss games, so you had better have quality depth. Now with 17 games, that's even more true.
  4. Donahoe's tenure was so ugly... I remember it being said that people in the building were rooting for him to fail because they hated him so much by the end. Just an awful environment. I think what did him in was tangling with Mr. Wilson. Ralph ran the show and when he said something it got done or you were done.
  5. Teams always say they are going to do that but they never do. Even Mike Brown, who is probably the one guy who would light a winning lottery ticket on fire if it meant getting over on a player, eventually caved and traded Carson Palmer.
  6. this sucks for the player, especially if the team voids his contract. Assuming the guy was working out to get ready for the season, you don't cut him off for getting hurt in what was probably a freak injury. Guys work out all the time at home or in local parks/tracks. It's part of being a professional athlete, isn't it? Man, if I was a team with cap space I would trade a 7th round pick to Denver for him, rather than them voiding his deal.
  7. That's pride messing with you, but I get it. I would look at this as Rodgers allowing the Packers to do what they already planned to and look like the good guys for doing it. After all, they were "committed to him." They tried everything... all the flights to soothe his ego. And what does he do? Embarrass the team on draft night Mock management threaten to retire cause all sorts of distraction and headache EVEN THEN, they tried to work it out, but alas, it couldn't be done. So we decided to cash in a lottery ticket worth of 1st round picks and players from some AFC team and move on to Jordan Love. Saying "just retire then" hurts the Packers more than it hurts Rodgers, and eventually, when everyone gets fired for mismanagement the new people will make the trade and benefit from all the compensation in terms of picks and players. The Packers couldn't just trade him without all this coming out first. Everyone would go crazy and fans would demand answers, which would then seem like going back and badmouthing your ex, so to speak. This way, the whole issue gets put out on the table, then the trade can be made and fans will be OK with it.
  8. For one, I hope his diet HAS been pizza, beer, and chicken wings. His job is to be a huge, immoveable object that frees up Oliver to roam. Star is insanely strong, so if he kept his weight up and made sure not to skip leg days we'll be fine!
  9. If it becomes 100% clear that Rodgers will not play for them, Green Bay will trade him. It's the only move for the people currently in charge, and Rodgers knows it. Any Rodgers trade would involve an obscene return. Not taking it if he is dead set on not playing there is a lose-lose for the people running the show. You have no MVP QB, and you have nothing to show for losing him. At least in a trade you can get a ton of compensation. Rodgers can retire or sit out and it won't hurt him all that much, but the people running the Packers will end up losing games and getting fired. We've seen this before. Mike Brown said the Bengals would NEVER trade Carson Palmer. Ever. Period, no matter the offer. 6 games into the season he was a Raider.
  10. True, but there is only one Brandon Beane. Beane got a draft pick for Lee Smith, who everyone thought was retiring! No way Philly's dysfunctional front office was going to get one over on Beane.
  11. My worst take is yet to come... Stay tuned!
  12. Eagles: we're not trading you, but by God we'll release you and make you a free agent! that's Green Bay level of GM skill right there
  13. Browns feel like a bigger threat than the Chiefs right now, honestly. Chiefs are cocky and one-dimensional. that dimension is amazing, but when it's off it's really off. Teams have been catching on lately, and KC, while still great, is not blowing teams out so often anymore. Kc is very streaky. Lots of points at once, then long periods of nothing. Browns are solid on both sides and hungry.
  14. Beane made a good point on WGR this morning... Guys rotate in all the time, so these rookies are going to see playing time if they make the roster. Especially the swing tackle. He's almost certainly going to see some action, especially in a 17 game regular season. DE's are constantly rotating. CBs always get dinged up a bit. Even if they don't start, they will play and contribute meaningful snaps to the team this year.
  15. I hear you, but I think every fanbase has that. Imagine being one of the 25 Falcons fans out there. 28-3. Plus they've melted down similarly a couple times since then, but that's the big one. Or a Packers fan... 2 HOF QBs who didn't win a lot in the playoffs and eventually forced their way out Or a Saints fan... talk about constant playoff heartbreak the past bunch of years. the Minnesota miracle. The non-PI. The other non-PI.
  16. Am I just getting older, or does Wilson look like he's 12 years old? That guy is going to take hits from NFL DL?
  17. The Browns are going to be a problem, but I think having OBJ back actually hurts them. The more Mayfield tries to make big throws the more they have issues. When they run the ball and Baker does his Alex Smith impression, going 17/20 for like 200 yards and no INT, they are tough to beat. But with the big name WR they try to air it out more and it costs them. It will be interesting to see how they approach the season.
  18. It was acknowledged on those boards way back when by a moderator, but no details were given. Donahoe was the guy confiscating fans' signs at the stadium near the end, so I think he enjoyed seeing what was being said. I know I would if I were a GM.
  19. Remember when the Bills website used to publish the "Ask Tom Donahoe" Q/A every so often? He used to read and sometimes post on the Bills official message boards as well, under another name of course.
  20. A guy on WGR quit his job because of the Josh Allen pick. Can't remember his name but I've heard of Josh Allen lately! Instant reactions can be fun but don't mean much. On the plus side for the kid who quit WGR, almost any job you could imagine pays more than working behind the scenes in radio.
  21. I was a little bummed about this, but Beane has always found huge guys late to fill that role. The fact that we took a handful of huge linemen made it easier to take, although I didn't love the talk of Rousseau "slimming down"
  22. Right now, I agree. but neither of those guys had the chance to play in games that really meant something. Hughes is still going strong, and therefore has the chance to make a huge play in a conference title game, for example, that would put him above those 2. We all love Fed Jackson and Kyle Williams, but Bills fans will remember the play where Hughes rips free of the blatant hold by the Seattle RT and hits Wilson to force the fumble that the Bills recover for a TD to end any chance of a Seattle comeback and seal the team's 1st Super Bowl win. That type of thing is still possible for Hughes, so his legacy is not complete.
  23. We saw Butler in an office supply store right before his rookie season. We went there to get printer ink and there was an enormous guy in line in front of us wearing an NFL Rookie Symposium t-shirt and I recognized that it was him. I didn't bother him or say anything but it was the first time I saw a Bills player out and about. To make this more related to the thread, I never thought he would be a guard.
  24. I think it's close, but right now I would say no. But his career is still going, and if the Bills get to the Super Bowl all it takes is the LT/RT not holding Hughes' jersey tight enough on one play and BAM! we've got a Carolina/Denver SB situation. I have almost no memory of that SB except for Von Miller strip sacking Newton and knocking the ball free for his teammate to recover for a defensive TD. Hughes makes a play like that in a SB the Bills win he's on the wall and it's a no-brainer. Funny thing is that DL seem to always show up in the Super Bowl. It's like they become a step or two faster. I could see Hughes having that type of game.
  25. This means that Edmunds is under contract through 2021 and 2022 then? Sounds like an Allen extension is coming in the relatively near future, but it's nice to also have Edmunds signed for the next 2 seasons as well.
