  1. This just goes to show how much of this game is mental. Mechanics, timing, focus, confidence. Everyone has the physical skills.
  2. Jets are no joke. As someone mentioned above, they won 7 games without a QB last year, and still had an outside shot at the playoffs until very late in the season. Jets are probably the non-Bills team I'm most interested in seeing early in the year. Bears are the other. I could see the Jets starting off not looking great on offense as Rodgers knocks the rust off, but picking up steam later in the season. I think Saleh is a better coach than people give him credit for. His team has been a tough out for a couple years now without anything on offense. If their offense becomes top 10 then it is only going to help the D. In that case I think they make the Divisional round in the AFC, at a minimum. Rodgers on his game, a strong running game, fierce defense, that is a recipe for a very tough out in January. Biggest question mark there is Rodgers.
  3. I keep seeing criticism that the renderings look "dark" Fancy places are dimly lit for some reason. I remember eating at a now closed "fancy" steakhouse locally and it was so dark in there that I thought about breaking out my camping headlamp to see to eat. Now THAT'S FANCY! Commas on the menu instead of decimal points are a real bonus. Hopefully they have that in the new stadium. I would settle for just a plain number too (like Popcorn 20 Pretzel 22), but that's not as fancy.
  4. After spending 2 decades rooting against him, I am shocked to find that I actually enjoy listening to Brady discuss football. I think he'll actually be great as a broadcaster. He has this friendly but edgy persona that makes him interesting. Hopefully he keeps that in the booth. I also like Peyton for the same reasons. They have a lot in common in terms of how they discuss players and games, they just go about it in their own ways. It's fun for fans to see these guys still involved with the game too. My Top 5 (based on 2024, not past performances necessarily): Mahomes Allen Jackson Stroud Burrow Honorable mentions: Tua, Stafford, Goff I'm not sold on Jordan Love yet. I saw him look pretty mediocre to bad last season before he caught fire. Stroud, on the other hand, just came out looking great and only got better, and he was a rookie. That's why I put him in there and not Love. Tua puts up insane numbers in that offense. Gotta give him credit. Stafford and Goff are both tough and both gamers who rise to the occasion in big games. Herbert just doesn't impress me. Not saying he's awful but he's just never struck me as a great QB. So inconsistent and also injury prone.
  5. I get what you're saying but this is the type of year when a contender finally wins it all. Many of the last Super Bowl winners were not exactly expected going into the year. It's not like it was a total shock, but there were serious questions about them. All that matters is being in the game. Whether that's the AFC Title Game or the Super Bowl, because you never know. You could dress last year's Browns and stick them vs the 49ers in the Super Bowl and they would have a 50/50 shot at winning. But you can't win if you're not in the game.
  6. I will say this.. McDermott and his staff have been able to find good LBers and DBs almost every year to add to the mix.
  7. Most of the time you win a Super Bowl when it's not expected. Look at both Giants SB wins with Eli. They weren't powerhouse teams all year long. Yet they slayed the dragon at the end of each of those seasons.
  8. Preseason is an opportunity for young guys to step up and make some noise! Young guy steps up and makes some noise. Yeah, but it's preseason...
  9. If making plays all over the field against the other teams 1s doesn't matter because it's preseason then there's literally no point to playing the games. Yeah, he's doing a great job especially for a young guy at playing football but that doesn't matter when we're evaluating football players? In no other field is this a thing. Sure you just led the entire kitchen, put out incredible food for a 400 person wedding, and everyone said it was beyond their expectations. That's all well and good. However, we're not sure you have what it takes to make it in this business. That sounds crazy to me just like saying a guy having a great game as a football player doesn't mean he can play football.
  10. I've always been a huge fan of radio... the theatre of the mind. I drive a lot, so I listen to a lot of radio, and a lot of types of radio. WGR misses Howard. He was a true pro, and good at what he did. To be great on the radio takes a truly rare and special skill. You have to be interesting, fluent, connect with the audience, have a certain "persona" if you will that is genuine and people gravitate to for whatever reason. And have a voice for it. Elocution matters when it's your only tool to communicate with the audience. This is sorely missing from so many shows nowadays. As a music fan I remember when it dawned on me years ago the value of a great DJ on the radio. They all play from the same library of music on a given station, and they don't talk a whole lot compared to talk radio. But there is absolutely a real difference when a truly great DJ is on the air. The flow of the songs, the little bits in between... the voice, the persona... the little details matter. And that's just music stations. I think back to my days decades ago delivering pizzas at night, driving through the farm fields and hills of Northern NY listening to Art Bell talk about ghosts, UFOs and EVPs as I'm cruising by myself down some country road on a dark September night and I still get chills. Radio when done well is awesome. All that to say, WGR is often not radio done well. It's so bad, especially morning and midday. The morning show is young guys and Jeremy desperately talking over each other for airtime, interrupting each other constantly. It's annoying. Maybe I'm just old and cranky but listening to that spikes my blood pressure. I genuinely feel for the hockey show guys. I mean, what is there to even do at this time of the year? It's God awful radio. Afternoon guys are ok at times, especially once the season starts.
  11. It would be neat to see Chicago have a top offense. I can't remember ever seeing them have a great QB or even being interesting to watch. The Super bowl team vs the Colts was all defense
  12. Lofton or Moulds for me. Lofton was a top-notch, dependable WR. Everything you want in a WR plus an incredible athlete and seemingly great teammate and person. Moulds is also an obvious choice, because he was great for years with no real QB. Imagine if he had Allen...
  13. I remember when DK Metcalf was too slow, had no agility, etc. Not saying that means Coleman will be the same, but it's who I think about when the measurables are mentioned.
  14. I voted Bills... Emotions aside, our younger players who had to step in were as good or better than some of the aging vets, especially on D Losing guys who have been here for so long is no fun, but the results might actually be better.
  15. kickers and goalies are proof of the power of psychology in sports. He was once called "Bassomatic" and now it's 50/50 whether he'll make a routine kick. Nothing physically changed. It's not like he forgot how to kick.
  16. I'm a little surprised, because if Tomlin played the year out he would be free and clear to go anywhere (or stay) and could basically pick his team as the #1 coach prospect by far on the market.
  17. Cam Newton, whose nickname in his prime was Superman. That hits a little close to home. Many people forget just how good Cam Newton was in his prime. He could throw it too, and holds the record for most 400 yard passing games as a rookie (2). The guy was a real QB in addition to being an athletic freak who could run the ball and bulldoze people. But, as big as he was, as athletic as he was, the hits took their toll and all of a sudden his throwing power was just gone. Cam's career was basically over at age 28. Allen has had 2 UCL injuries already in his throwing arm, plus shoulder injuries that have hampered him during the season. I don't think it's crazy to make the comparison based on playing styles and potential for the same outcome if adjustments are not made.
  18. whenever a WR signs with the Titans my gut reaction is "why?"
  19. no matter what happens, you can never have too many good OL it's a position league-wide that is weak, so if the Bills can stock some talent and have a nice pipeline that's a great spot to be in! Many teams don't have 5 good OL, and then if someone goes down it's panic time.
  20. As much as I have been critical of McDermott's defenses falling apart in the playoffs, what would it look like if Elam was at least competent and one of the recent DE picks was as good at being a DE as Oliver is at DT? It could be a totally different defense
  21. I don't think so, because when you have a QB like Allen the goalpost is to at least get to a Super Bowl. It could happen this year, and hopefully it does! At the end of the day we're all just watching the show, but I'm starting to get annoyed with McDermott's defense not showing up in the playoffs, which is a theme. That doesn't mean that will always happen, though. Maybe some of the players we all loved weren't as good as we thought they were, and with different guys McDermott's defense will get the job done. He's a smart guy and a detailed oriented guy, so it's not impossible.
  22. 6 as a HC, 2 as a DC. If you recall, his defense actually gave top tier QBs problems. The top QBs of the era had some of their worst games against BB and the Patriots in the playoffs, when it mattered most. Another way to phrase that is Belichick's defenses were actually effective once the playoffs and multiple super Bowls came around, whereas McDermott's defenses melt under the spotlight.
  23. Colin Cowherd can be a little obnoxious at times in my opinion, but I do agree with something he says quite often, and that's a top QB paired with a defensive HC is a huge disadvantage for a few reasons... 1. If the offense is good you lose your OC to a HC opening and have to keep starting over 2. you're good enough to keep that defensive HC employed basically forever so you're stuck if it's a so-so situation 3. the game is so slanted to offense that having a defensive HC is nowhere near as beneficial That does not mean you can't win, but it's a lot harder than being paired with an innovative offensive minded HC
  24. Huge mistake by the Chargers back then too... As far as McDermott goes, it's one thing to be saddled with a defensive minded HC if the defense comes up big in big spots (like Belichick's D usually did for Brady). Patriots defense made Peyton Manning, Big Ben, Rivers, and basically everyone else look ordinary at best the vast majority of the time. They got NE a 14 point lead in KC in the AFC Title game that KC couldn't recover from until it was too late. McDermott's defense wilts every postseason.
  25. There is literally nothing that could realistically happen to cause McDermott and Beane to be let go. It just is never going to happen as long as Josh Allen is QB. We need to hope that Joe Brady is great but not so great that he gets a HC gig right away. With Allen they will win a lot of regular season games, and "you can't fire a winning coach!" Soon McD will be around long enough to be one of (if not THE) winningest Bills coach of all time. You can hear the arguments now: "you could do a lot worse than the winningest HC in franchise history!" I'm skeptical that this coach will ever get it done (winning a SB), because we have a defensive minded HC whose defense never comes up big in the playoffs for us. Our QB plays like superman almost every time and it goes to waste. That said, Allen will keep McDermott employed for the entirety of his career. And eventually the defense has to make the big 3rd down stop in a playoff game, even if just by chance. A bad throw, a drop, a great pass breakup at the right time. Or perhaps even a SACK when it matters from all that investment in the DL! Give McDermott enough kicks at the can and hopefully he'll lead the team all the way. That's kind of where we are. McDermott will never, under any circumstances, be fired as long as Josh Allen is QB and Terry Pegula owns the team.
