Star is freaking unmovable, so this is great news! Yes, he doesn't get flashy stats, but he occupies 2 blockers so everyone else can work. I still want Slayton or Bohanna in the draft as an eventual Star replacement, but I'm very happy to hear that he's coming back. Star is extremely strong and a big body in there. Hopefully he's putting in the work in the dining room to get ready for the season. Being all trim is nice on an opt out year, but now it's time to crush some pizza and wings a 900 lb DT... Don't tease me! Incidentally, when we had Sam Adams and Ted Washington lined up next to each other at DT, it was close to 800 pounds of DT. Imagine that weight tackling you if you run up the middle....

Raiders cut center Rodney Hudson, possibly cash poor
TheFunPolice replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There has been a lot of talk about how the Raiders just don't have $$ (not cap space) They did just sink an absolute fortune into that new stadium, and it's just terrible luck that the year it opens there are no fans, so no $$ from the new market. This definitely makes Gruden even safer. Can't afford to pay him and another coach. -

Can someone explain to me the Pats strategy?

Tom Brady and the Bucs come into NE this year for an epic showdown that will 100% be on Prime Time. Brady vs Belichick. Once in a lifetime matchup. Whoever wins will always have that over the other. Belichick has 8 Super Bowl rings, Brady has 7. This is a legacy game, and Bill isn't going into it with one hand tied behind his back. -
Belichick wants to beat Brady this year. He's got one shot at that game.

Beane created the Bill B meltdown yesterday
TheFunPolice replied to Paul Costa's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Patriots play the Bucs in New England this year. Bill doesn't want to go into that game with his hands tied behind his back. Brady vs Belichick. Both will want that game BADLY, as it is likely a one time deal. Whoever wins has the "yeah but" over the other. Plus, Bill still has more rings (8) than Brady (7). So more rings, plus a win head to head, means Bill gets over on Tom. -
Bills a rumored suitor for Kareem Hunt trade
TheFunPolice replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
IF he ends up here, then ownership is OK with it and satisfied that his past transgressions are behind him. It would be a great way to add some excitement to the running game and free up options in the draft. -
Taysom Hill gets $140 million over 4 years
TheFunPolice replied to The Jokeman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Saints are going to be a mess this year I think, losing Brees plus so many other players. They go from top seed status to just a random 8-8 team, IMO. Might as well take the worst of the cap hit this year and draft a QB high in 2022. -
We can plug a hole at DT with one of these players in the mid-rounds: (all text from WalterFootball.com) Tedarrell Slaton, DT, Florida Height: 6-5. Weight: 343. Projected 40 Time: 5.6. Projected Round (2021): 3-5. Tyler Shelvin*, DT, LSU Height: 6-3. Weight: 346. Projected 40 Time: 5.55. Projected Round (2021): 3-5. Naquan Jones, DT, Michigan State Height: 6-4. Weight: 339. Projected 40 Time: 5.4. Projected Round (2021): 4-6. Quinton Bohanna, DT, Kentucky Height: 6-4. Weight: 367. Projected 40 Time: 5.66. Projected Round (2021): 4-6.

Gronk is just a name at this point. I would rather talk Lee Smith into playing for 1 more year. -
Drew Brees finally announces retirement
TheFunPolice replied to Beast's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Class act, and a true great. I feel bad for Brees that his career ended with 4 straight heartbreaking losses in the playoffs when his team was supposed to win. New Orleans has been totally stacked for years now on offense and defense, which is why they are in cap hell now. If you think about it, the Saints just had a span of 4 consecutive seasons where they really should have been in 3 or 4 of the last Super Bowls. Can't win a 2nd ring if you're not in the game. 4 years in a row of heartbreak and coming up short... The Minnesota Miracle The Rams non called PI The Saints getting called for PI in the end zone in OT to end the game The Cook fumble when the Saints were about to put the game away against TB this year in the 3rd quarter and go up 14 Brees very easily could have retired with 3 rings, maybe even 4. But you have to get to the game to win it. -
Free Agency Wish List After Pre FA re-signings
TheFunPolice replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My #1 wish list item is a DE who has proven able to rush the passer. That is what is missing from an otherwise pretty solid defense. Next would be an interior lineman. The market will be flooded with guards this year, and Beane has shown an ability to find quality lineman at a good price. Get another solid guard in here to compete with Ford or at least offer solid depth. You can't have too many good OL. All it takes is one interior lineman going down and suddenly we're in big trouble. This would be huge insurance for this season. You might even get a quality player on a 1 year deal, given the circumstances with the cap this season. A guy might figure that playing on a top offense with Josh Allen would allow him to cash in big next year. Finally, we need another option in the passing game, either TE or WR. Diggs, Beasley and Davis is nice, but if one gets nicked up things drop off very quickly. Maybe the draft is the place to go there, but if there is a solid veteran type guy that can produce, bring him in on a 2-3 year deal. -
Cap impact of retirement?
TheFunPolice replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it's about money already paid to the player that would have been accounted for in future years comes due at retirement. Otherwise, teams would have all sorts of money paid out to players that was never accounted for anywhere in the cap number. I still say that if the league allows op outs this year, and it is a negotiated deal between player and team as is being speculated, that the Bills ask Star to opt out this year and just pay him $500,000 or so and have next to no cap hit, then he can retire next season on June 1, splitting the dead cap between 2022 and 2023. Everyone wins... Star essentially is retired but gets an extra half million, and the Bills free up a big chunk of cap space. The only thing is that there might not be opt outs this season. -
Breaking: Daryl Williams signs 3 year extension

Awesome news! -
I have only heard that on this thread. I was mostly responding to the person who said it here. Hopefully it's not true.

Star dropping a bunch of weight makes him useless to the defense, sadly. What he should have been doing this year is putting in the work in the dining room to be the biggest, best version of his 1DT self. Luckily, our future big DT (which is something Beane and McDermott obviously want in their defense) is named Slayton and he's in this draft coming up! There's a couple of giant DT's actually, that would make sense as mid-round picks to get a young giant guy in the system for cheap to play that role.
-
What if Star is thinking of retiring, but the team asks him to opt out this year instead, making his cap hit almost nothing this season and absorbing the acceleration next season once the cap goes up? If it's a deal between teams and players this time around, as opposed to a flat rate, then the Bills could say "take an extra 500,00 or 750,000 and wait a year to call it a career." Everyone wins. His cap hit drops to almost nothing, and he gets to pocket some extra cash that he would not see if he retires now.

Deshaun Watson officially requests trade from Houston
TheFunPolice replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
MEGATRON! And he was great with him. The team stunk, though. But Stafford and Megatron put up some numbers together. -
Worked out just fine without them in the Super Bowl, although I wonder how much Reid's son threw them off in that game as well. It seemed like there was none of the creativity we were used to, just snap the ball, Mahomes runs around like crazy, and the WR or TE drops the ball when it hits him in the face or hands.

Updated cap is $182.5 million
TheFunPolice replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So the Bills have around 15 million in space now, with another 2 or so coming when Lee Smith retires, for 17 million in cap space. -
