McDermott need to clean some things up, but he and his staff have done a lot of winning here. We're a LONG WAY from "football is a tough game for tough people" or "it's hard to win in the NFL" We have a very good staff, and they've only really been expected to be a good team once (last year) so you can't say much about playoffs since they lost to KC (in KC) twice in a row. Point is, the story of McDermott is still early.

"Reid" came up short in the KC/TB Super Bowl is the narrative some put out. "See, we told you so!" Meanwhile, KC had reserves playing OL against a top defense, Mahomes was running for his life while limping around with a busted ankle/foot and KC's WR dropped everything that hit them. Circumstances matter.

Take away 2 unreal catches by the Giants and he has 9 rings instead of 7. Brady could EASILY have 4 rings or 9 rings. All a play here and there (except Atlanta, which was a complete collapse by one team). So the key is keep getting into those spots so that you can benefit from the randomness. No matter how random it can seem, the ball will never bounce your way or a timely penalty go your way if you're sitting on your couch watching.

It's the same thing they said about Andy Reid: can't win the big one. I loved Madden's commentary about that: tell me which ones are the "small ones." Now that Reid has a ring, there is no better example of this than the unfair criticism of Marty Shottenheimer. The year is 2006. The Chargers are 14-2. It's the Divisional round of the AFC playoffs. Marty Shottenheimer, the coach who "couldn't win the big games" had the perfect game plan to stop the Patriots machine led by Brady and Belichick. There's even film of him telling the player who won the game for SD before fumbling not to go running around when he gets the game winning INT and to just get down. So what happens? In a cruel twist of fate THAT SAME PLAYER intercepts Brady at the end and the game is OVER! Chargers win and they are going to face Indianapolis in the AFC Title Game, at home! Except no. He does exactly what coach warned him about and FUMBLES BACK TO NE instead of simply hitting the turf. NE, given another shot (sound familiar to anyone?) goes on to win, and Marty "can't win the big ones" and is fired shortly after the game with a 14-2 record that season and never coaches again. Marty was also the coach who LOVED Brees and thought he was a top QB in the making and wanted to keep him. In other words, he was RIGHT about Brees, had the perfect game plan to defeat NE, won 14 games that year, got the #1 seed, even foresaw the need to tell his DB to just go down when he got the pick (showing how detail oriented he was) and yet it's COACHING that cost SD. So he was fired after that game! Marty, the guy who is 7th all-time in NFL wins by a head coach with 200, somehow wasn't good enough. BTW, the active coaches ahead of him are Reid (234 wins) and Belichick (291). Behind him are Tomlin (155) and Carroll (152). Think about how dumb that sounds. Apparently those 200 wins don't count. No "big games" in there. Football is a cruel game at times, and the single elimination format means that any one mistake can end your season.

it's week 3, so no. We need our guys fresh and healthy in January and (hopefully) February. We're to the point where the regular season is about getting to the playoffs healthy and hopefully with the 1 seed for the automatic bye and homefield.

McDermott is the defensive version of Andy Reid. The guy is an AMAZING schemer on defense and can game plan and draw up great stuff for players. That's 90% of the gig, and he is elite at it. However, this team can be very sloppy, and coaching decisions often very questionable. But usually we steamroll teams so it doesn't matter. Look at the Rams game. We turned the ball over a few times but it made no difference. It seems like every time we get a 15 yard PF penalty on offense 2 plays later it's a first down anyway. We're getting used to nothing mattering because in the end we score 30+ points. Even yesterday, with all the injuries coming in on defense AND many more during the game, Waddle and Hill did very little overall. That's scheme and roster depth, and the coaches deserve a ton of credit there. But this time around, being sloppy DID cost them. We left a minimum of 13 points on the field: the circus act before the half, not punching it on with 3 tries on the 1 yard line, and Bass missing the FG. We were also moving the ball again on the final drive but ran out of time. With those 13 points, it's 32-21 Bills. All we needed was ONE of those things and it's a W. That's the story to me: all the injuries, all the mistakes, and it took EVERYTHING to break the Dolphins way to win by 2 points at home when Bills players were going off the field every other play.

Well, you can't win a Super Bowl in September. McDermott hasn't "not won a Super Bowl with Allen" until he isn't the coach here anymore.

IMO, yes, it was awful yesterday heat-wise, but it's always hot there, this was just worse than normal. I don't think any huge changed need to be made, aside from maybe the NFL scheduling Miami games for 4:25 kickoff early in the season. If they continue to get hype, easy solution is for them to play SNF/MNF early in the year like we did this year. It's the same here but with the cold. It's much more likely to be 42 degrees, gray and damp in December or early January in WNY than 25 degrees and a blizzard or crazy bitter cold like the NE playoff game. But the latter are certainly possible. All that said, give me the cold anytime over the heat. You can do all sorts of things to warm up, but the heat is just brutal.

I'd rather watch if it was a flag football game involving retired legends as well. Team Montana vs Team Marino, for example. Since most good QBs won't want to play anyway. I'd watch Joe sling the rock again to guys like Hill, Waddle and Kelce. Our guys will hopefully be busy!

It seemed like the Dolphins were much less affected, at least to me. Maybe it was the shade on their side allowing them to cool off a bit. Heat tolerance is an individual thing. I have no idea how Allen lasted the whole game without having issues. He was obviously gassed by the end when he one hopped the ball to Mackenzie in the end zone on 4th down. I really worried about the big men who weight 300+ pounds and have all that gear on and have to maul (or be mauled by) another 300+ pound man every play.
