  1. Allen is a young man. We could take four soul crushers in a row from them. 3rd-4th inning of Allen vs. Mahomes. I'll tell ya - for our squad, Coleman over Worth all day.
  2. Way to go Marv!! 99 years, but I bet the fire still burns bright inside. Well done old-timer! Forever, a Bills head coach.
  3. I think match-ups are the key. Ours will be better than last year. Diggs either quit on the team or had declining talent due to age - he was simply no good in the second half last year. And even if he goes off in Houston, it does not mean he would have excelled here. You may have seen the video clip of Josh the other day addressing exactly what you are talking about - scramble drills need to be a winning play for us. I believe we will not only be better, but much better than we were last year when a play breaks down. It is where Coleman's size - the ability to box out and to go up and get it - should really shine, especially with the spatial awareness that comes from his basketball background. And I think Shakir, Samuel and Kincaid will all run the scramble drill extremely well in that they are smart players thet will work to open space. And I think they will do it much better than Diggs and Davis did it last year even if we count on nothing from Coleman (but Coleman will give us a lot on the scramble, IMHO).
  4. The OP's post was too much for me to wade through in detail, but I agree with the headline. I think that quietly, and contrary to conventional wisdom, we have not just a better group, but a materially better group than we had last year. Kincaid and Shakir will not be the same players they were last year, and they were already pretty damn good. Coleman and Samuel are solid adds. And Diggs is little to no loss at this point IMHO. Whether due to decline in talent or attitude, he was pretty useless to us in the second half. Samuel and Coleman will not be useless. Far from it. We are materially better.
  5. I just think extending him at the earliest possible time will prove to be the cheapest. I think we may have a window with the multi-billion dollar DirecTV verdict. The players may see some of their money at risk - a flat or downish cap is a bit of a risk - the Bills should capitalise on any such fear and spend like the cap will NOT be affected by the verdict (as I don't think it will, but I am hopeful it is a risk agents may handicap for).
  6. Madden was a pretty good coach 50 years ago. Made a fortune out of making noises in the broadcast booth -- "he comes around the end and 'wham'! That takes charisma, but not genius. Game has changed tremendously in 50 years. The athletes are very different. If this was ever true, I don't believe it has any truth today. It is a match-up game now. You need lots of different athletic types to stress the defense much more than you need one Fred Biletnikoff, I believe. I think we have seen Allen's final right of passage. Without a true #1 they will rely on him to distribute the ball effectively and elevate his receiver group. Diggs came here a #1 receiver. I think there is a very good chance Shakir, Kincaid, Samuel or Coleman will leave here -- someday -- as a validated #1 in the eyes of the league and its followers. If so, that will be in significant part due to Josh's greatness (which is considerable!) Let's go - I got a feelin' about this particular team. Let 'em hunt! I think this is as good a team as we have ever fielded. We will see how this post ages, I know. As of today I am feeling pretty confident.
  7. I like this offseason a lot. Our offense has no holes. And I think is much improved over last year. Diggs was poor in the second half, and Father Time says his career can't be trending up. Davis couldn't separate. Diversifying the offense makes sense to me. We have more ballast in the middle of the line. And Offense was much better under Brady -- I expect the improvement to continue. Defensively, as much as I loved Poyer and Hyde, I don't expect any drop-off of from what they gave us last year - and a tick up is certainly possible. Safety aside, from our remaining starters in Chiefs game, the D returns Milano, Bedford, Bernard, a healthy Rasul Douglas (who was injured vs. Chiefs and played very slow that day), a healthy Daquan Jones and a healthier Von Miller. Add our draft picks and the D stands to be much improved. We are losing one game in the division - on the road vs. either Fish or Jets. And I can see us going 7-4 on the others without too much strain. So put it in ink - Bills are winning 12 (could be better).
  8. I don't think it ever gets cheaper - I would be working now on locking him up until he is 38 years old.
  9. Allen is now, I believe, the 11th highest paid QB in the NFL and behind the likes of Kirk Cousins, Lawrence and Jalen Hurts. He is $12 million below market. Great job by Beane stepping up when he did. That $12 million nets us at least two starters. Interested in thoughts on when we should we extend Allen. Seems there is no time like the present!
  10. Fairly or not I credit him with Dawkins and Milano as well. I consider them elite. There are some pretty big names left off your list too - Torrence, Kincaid, Benford and Bernard to name 4. I think our team would be MUCH less without those four players. I think they are all "potentially elite" and difference makers right now.
  11. Solid A, couple misses deprive him of the "+". Couple points: 1. I feel he takes it all very much to heart and is striving to get better all the time, his own worst critic. Love that. 2. I think it is underrated how important the fit with his HC is - and Beane's and McD's is perfect. Great working relationship that makes it all go (plus Josh). I live in NY -- Jets fans are (gang) green with envy over our front office. I remember the dumb old days here, just like the Jets today. Good riddance!
  12. What is final WR room? Usually keep six, so feels to me like: 1. Coleman 2. Shakir 3. Samuel 4. Hollins 5. Scantling 6. Claypool That leaves some meaningfully high draft picks (and perhaps talent) on the outside looking in. Shorter, Hamler, and Isabella for starters. And Shavers. Does anyone have.a different view? Interested in the Board's thoughts on two things: 1. Hamler in particular seems like a potentially valuable player if he can stay healthy. Don't really have another guy like him. Could he knock out one of the "big receivers" like Scantling, Hollins or Claypool? Having the four "bigs" of Coleman, Hollins, Scantling and Claypool seems a little redundant - keeping Hamler over one of those would make it 3 bigs and 3 smaller, shiftier players. 2. I also have no idea what Shorter or Shavers really bring - but they seem to be directly competing with Hollins/Scantling/Claypool for back-up "big receiver" roles. Do they have a path?
  13. Agree. Shakir and Diggs, if I recall, have nearly identical height, weight, speed numbers. Physically, he is kind of a Diggs clone.
  14. Best dude ever. So glad he is our QB - having an equally talented jerk would not be as gratifying.
  15. On "buying greatness" - it has worked, but I think it has failed a lot more. Just my impression, have not gone through all the names.
  16. Kind of funny, I posted how much I like this board because of its fan insight and enthusiasm, despite some issues. Then the thread immediately degenerated into a bunch of insults and arguing. I guess that just has to be part of it, unfortunately. 😔
  17. Agree with this. Suspect rebuilding his confidence is as important as working with TJ to refine his footwork. Rooting for the young man. I went to the preseason game vs. Colts when he and Bedford were both rookies. Both of them had pretty dominant performances in that game. Day time preseason games are underrated. It is a wonderful way to kill an afternoon, see the depth of the team, and have a couple beers without being stressed out of my mind. I live in the New York area and my fiance and I took in the preseason game, went to the Fair and then saw Zach Bryan at Darien Lake. Gave her the full Buffalo experience! Was awesome.
  18. No worries. Was glad to be able to share it. This board has its downsides, but on the whole I think it is really pretty great and reflects the insight of our fanbase and their commitment to the team. So it is a privilege to add a tidbit!
  19. Safety. I have inside information (maybe it is public and I don't know it), that they really want to look at him as a safety. That might help the grabbiness at the top of routes - seeing the play unfold and running to the catch point rather than trying to mirror sometimes. Others on here have posted he would be terrible at safety, but the Bills believe there is at least some chance those posters are wrong.
  20. It is sad indeed, but not at all unlikely that it helps the Bills more having him on another team than it would having him on the Bills. If so, the 2nd rounder we got is a windfall. The $31 million is a sunk cost.
  21. Of course it is a passing league, but it is beyond doubt that a running game that challenges the defense helps open the pass. Singletary and "the bag of balls" backs with him scared no one -- even after Devon gutted out eight yards, he was going down. Cook and Johnson can both take it to the house. Sleep on that at your peril. Big help for the passing game.
  22. Standing with Mom and Dad and my first wife while Whitney Houston sang the National Anthem and Jets roared over the stadium. I lost my beloved spouse in a car accident nine years later. Luckily I have three of her great children. Dad is gone now, Mom has Alzheimer's. Happily I have a terrific new spouse who loves the Bills and is so similar to the wonderful woman I lost it is eery at times. Second - Dad protecting me from the throng at the men's room when I was five years old at the Rockpile before the Raiders at Bills in 1967. And seeing how green the field was that day when I walked in and saw my first NFL field for the first time.
  23. With all the hue and cry over our wide receivers there has been limited mention of our running back room. I think it is really good. Cook looked pretty elite last year, especially down the stretch. I thought Ty Johnson was a helluva addition and was a very valuable contributor - has size and speed. And I am so excited about Davis, who I think will bring a lot to the table receiving and running - as well as a can of whoopass. Would not shock me if Gore sneaks on the roster and contributes as well - his old man will kill him if he doesn't! So much better than when we had Singletary and a bag of balls. Loved Singletary, but he was a little small and a little slow. This group is really talented.
  24. I think Hollins will be a great addition. A glue guy who every once in a while comes up big when not necessarily expected, and who rarely has a negative play. A gamer.
  25. I think the key word is "weapons" rather than just "wide receivers". Until our boy Coleman proves it (and I think he can), our wide receivers alone may be middling. However, when you look at the totality of our "weapons" - pretty darn good, more than enough I believe. Spreading weaponry across RBs, WRs and TEs is likely a reflection of Josh's maturation. He has ample game experience to know where to distribute the ball all over the field and how to put playmakers with YAC skills (Cook, Davis, Samuel and Shakir), opportunities to make big plays out of short passes in space. I like that so much better than "gotta get it to Diggs." Stretch them vertically and horizontally, challenge them with size, speed and agility. The ability to do that with this group is pretty awesome, IMHO. Seems that across all our weapons we have a good sampling of every trait that threatens a defense - size (both height and weight with our two tight ends), speed, and shiftiness. The cherry on top for me is we also stand to run the ball much better than at any time since the Shady days. Feeling dangerous!
