Missed Draft Picks Will Catch Up
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to PepeSilvia's topic in The Stadium Wall
I really thought we'd grab metcalf in the second. Just felt like something an ascending team would do - grab a big bodied downfield WR for our big armed QB. Especially considering zay jones had been a disappointment to that point (we traded him mid-season so clearly he wasn't someone likely considered a future piece). Veach hit pretty well in 2021, and 2022 looks good too. 2020 doesn't look bad even if CEH was probably a wasted pick in the first. They also spent firsts the last 2 years on pass rushers. So i think thats the same line of thinking as beane in that... you need some pass rushers on rookie deals because they rotate a decent amount, and its the only way to keep the costs down at the position. -
How much longer will the window be open?

The closest comparisons i could think of would be maybe Rivers and Ryan? Rivers only made the playoffs twice in his last 10 seasons with the chargers, a lot of it was on the defense there (as well as some chargers luck). Matt Ryan won an MVP, and made it to a super bowl, but they couldn't really build a defense there. As much as we want to complain about the missed picks, we've still fielded a solid defense pretty much the entirety of Allen's tenure here. I don't know what the future holds, but doubling down on OL and DL is likely the way to keep this train churning forward. -
Trade Tracker (2023 Cutdown)
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to ColoradoBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I remember him getting absolutely roasted by buffalo his rookie year. Then i never heard from him again. -
True, davis isn't bad either. Honestly neither is diggs.
-
There are 2 more drafts and free agency rounds before then, so i wouldn't consider it a major concern. But I'm not loving what we've seen from some of our drafted DE's, and its one of the more overpriced FA positions.
-
Running backs are so cheap anyway... why even use draft capital? If there's a priority UDFA guy you can just draft them in the 7th too.
-
They're late round picks providing some quality depth. TJ is a good nickel back in a primary nickel league. Davis is a WR2, and will be paid as one next season. Benford jackson and hamlin played a ton of snaps last year and our defense finished 6th in yards and 2nd in points per game. But i'm sure none of them could start anywhere...
-
We'll see there - i know they like to pass short, but i suspect a lot of those shorter targets he was getting end up going to Waller (assuming he's healthy).
-
2019 you missed Knox at 96. If you go beyond those rounds too you'll see players like Taron Johnson, Siran Neal, Gabe Davis, Tyler Bass, Dane Jackson, Hamlin, Benford, and Shakir.
-
Moore too at pick 34. Vera-tucker was starting to play well and got hurt too. Their 3rd 1st rounder last year recorded 2.5 sacks too... but who's counting. Hall looks like he could be a good pick, but he blew out his knee and missed training camp so we'll see how that all goes.
-
Never really worked out either. Addison, Klein, Tolbert, Benjamin, Webb, Johnson...
-
I see a massive crash to earth from them this year. Tough division. Went 9-4-1 in 1 score games last year. 0-4 against dallas and philly.
-
QB - Eagles RBs - 49ers WR - Eagles - It's close though OL - Eagles DL - 49ers - Also very close LB - 49ers DB - Eagles Pretty close - gotta give eagles an edge with Hurts though.
-
They also used the 2nd overall pick on zach wilson the year before. So they got an all-pro corner, a NOT all-pro WR who looks to be a good player, and a worthless QB. With More draft capital than buffalo has had if you combine probably the last 3 seasons if not more.

Elam now CB4 and playing kickoff coverage in the preseason
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
Just a hair late a bunch of times... when you're in that cover 3 or 4, you have to play behind the WR and disrupt the catch point because if you try and jump it and don't get it you're giving up a ton of free yards. -

Jackson's advanced stats are good, but i felt like when a team needed a 3rd and long they'd go at dane. -

In that 7 years the AFC was represented by KC 3x and NE 3x. The Bengals did make it 2 years ago - but i don't think their roster in 2021-2022 was the reason, just peaked at the right time on defense, got takeaways and took care of the ball. The Chiefs have one of the best offensive minds in football history, and one of the best QBs in football history. Their GM and scouting is also top notch. It's going to be tough to get in. Before that you had Belichick and Brady finishing up their run as the greatest dynasty in NFL history. It's a tough ask to have multiple super bowl appearances in this window. Need some bounces, some help etc. Example: Mike Tomlin is 1-1 in the super bowl, he never beat Brady or Manning on his way to a super bowl. It's going to be tough to beat KC and Cincy in the same playoffs, maybe one or both gets bounced. -
Well hes not going to be MORE healthy by showing up to camp! lol
-
A healthier player...?
-
I mean... all things considered... you can do a lot worse in a tackle eligible situation.
-
His pick against Miami was pretty much a game saver. We were down 4 at that point. We play in a division with a ton of speedy WRs. Both Jackson and Benford run in the mid 4.5's, while Elam ran a sub 4.4. You basically can't play man if ur starting either of the other guys. My expectation is he has the job by end of year unless jackson and benford can make plays. Last year is a tough e v a l because all 3 played in various roles, on various sides of the field. Run fits and tackling matter as well, and thats usually something a coach will gripe with a young player on especially in camp.
-
Eh - 41 year old non-QBs will always skip camp if they can.
-
The first game was an absolute mess. Looking at the numbers too... 3 drops on 28 pass attempts. 2 by deebo, who also lost a fumble in the red zone. Not as if his guys did him a ton of favors in that one. Lance had 13 carries on the game, and only 4 are recorded as scrambles so its pretty clear they were trying to just run the ball.

A lot of that is signing bonus though. I highlighted the things an acquiring team *might* be on the hook for. For 2023 you def pay the base salary as thats game checks (number on the left). The 2.8M is a roster bonus for camp so i assume thats paid out already by SF. So you would be getting him my GUESS is for 2yr at like 6.2M.
