  1. I'd assume he has some say in it? Buffalo thrives in combo coverages and zone. The key is being close enough to disrupt the catch point. The issue is that teams like KC can exploit that by creating leverage mismatches. Same with Cincy - though they're more likely to try and create a 1x1 for chase or higgins. At the end of the day - we can complain about the coaching staff a ton. But they tackled like crap all game long, there were mental lapses, and mistakes, everywhere. Poyer was terrible. Edmunds was terrible. Milano was terrible. Oliver was terrible. Rousseau was terrible. On offense, the oline was just a disaster. Allen was also really lousy in that game. It's not a burn the film type of game, but you can't win when all of your best players just play poorly. Like - on this play allen... what you wanted to do was... throw it better. Or Spencer, on this one... you might want to get a hand on the guy in front of you. What I can learn is.. maybe how to get my offense jump started a bit more? But the players need to get the juice themselves - this isn't high school. If you can't get up for a big game, you need to look in the mirror and figure out how to do it next time. People on both sides of the ball needed to make plays.
  2. Alright i mean... he was a rookie. And he's behind an all-pro in the depth chart. Still a strange pick when you look at it though - unless they think he can play in edmunds spot.
  3. I thought he was much improved as the season went on. He doesn't have Hyde's instincts, and he missed some tackles here and there, but he was SO much better than Johnson/Lewis/Marlowe. I'm hopeful that they have a plan at safety with poyer a free agent and Hamlin and Hyde on the mend. Maybe Benford? I only say this because: He's big - 6'1 205 He's a good tackler He's not fast - 4.53 40 time at the combine He's got some man coverage chops, and has a good feel for zone. It's probably the best pathway to snaps. If it's Elam White and Johnson, he's competing with Dane for backup snaps.
  4. Yeah, i just think tranquill is likely going to highest bidder by necessity (28 by season start, and he has made like 3M).
  5. Depends what happens pre-draft. There are a lot of free agents, and i think Buffalo will dip their toes in there so they have a backup plan.
  6. I think the challenge is going to be getting him to take another step - he did that this past season. He seemed to play faster, more aggressively. He was a part of some games where Buffalo absolutely thrashed the opposing offense. What comes next is... wanting those challenging assignments, improvement as a blitzer, and development of a bit of a mean streak (Rousseau needs this as well).
  7. Vander Esch has neck issues so he'll never get a long term deal. Pratt's a thumper - which doesn't help us against the KC's of the world... but there are a lot of teams that run the ball, and it isn't just buffalo that gets some lousier weather as the year moves on. Tranquill was at ND for 5 years, and then 4 in the NFL and will be 28 when he gets his new deal so id imagine he wants the highest guarantee possible.
  8. 7 years always seems like too long for anyone other than a QB, but he's... and i can't stress this enough... only 25 😂
  9. 0 investment in their running backs - big investment in their offensive line. It doubles as protection for Mahomes, and they have the best screen game in the business by a mile. Thuney is probably top paid guard, traded a 1st for Brown at LT, 2nd rounder on Humphrey, Wylie who has played all over their line, and also hit on trey smith in the 6th round.
  10. Nail on the head here. We couldn't or didn't run in the red zone, teams know this so play action is out. Dorsey didn't seem to scheme much in the way of trickery or motion to get the defense out of position.
  11. That and the players association wants it pre-draft to make sure that its existing members get paid before rookies.
  12. What did Barkley do for the giants? Side by side his stats with Motor/Cook and you get very similar production. NYG outgained Buffalo 2519 to 2232 in rush yards yards (buffalo had 1 fewer game), and had 90 additional carries. Moss was a tackle breaking machine in college. He just always seemed tentative in the NFL. Missing holes, and just generally not playing the way he was capable.
  13. It's definitely not 0. He's a good timeshare back - most teams employ one... paying a back is never a particularly smart move as they all end up hurt eventually. I'd say.... Denver, Jets without hall (he's better than everyone else they have), Atlanta, New Orleans, Carolina, Tampa, LA. He'd definitely get snaps for teams like KC, Cincy, Pittsburgh. He had more yards on fewer carries than Joe mixon, David Montgomery, and Brian Robinson. He's a pretty solid blocker and he has improved his hands. Him and Cook combine to put up better numbers than Barkley fwiw. I don't think he'll get 5.5 because of the amount of free agents. I think Atlanta will overpay for a top back and he's part of the replacement - so maybe Vegas, or Dallas.
  14. 18th in offense, 25th in defense. On a last place schedule. They are a good rushing team, in the same vein that buffalo is a good rushing team. Jones had 700 yards of their rushing. Barkley had 295 for 1312, and 57 for 338. Motor/Cook had 266 for 1326, and 59 for 460. They have 2 slot WRs in james and Robinson - so they can let shepard walk. Hodgins is alright for them - but he plays smaller than his size and is not at all fast. I assume they cut golladay. Slaytons a free agent. So are barkley and jones. On defense their pass rush isn't strong, and they don't have a strong run game. They had 6 INTs on the season, which is absurdly low - but this ebbs and flows usually. They recovered 13 fumbles which is sort of a lot actually. Really good on 3rd down and red zone... Which also ebbs and flows. They won a ton of close games, which usually are more coin flip than anything. I would put them at 4th in that division next year with their current roster.
  15. Developing players isn't really... the job? It's getting your guys up and ready to execute play calls, understanding leverage, route concepts, etc. You can't teach a guy to run routes in his 20s, he knows how. You can't teach a guy how to catch a ball. Those are just drills. No amount of coaching is going to fix drops - its a concentration error. It's getting the x's and o's part of the game down pat, what are tendencies you see from defenders, what are the concepts we are going to use to attack this defense? Its being in the room with dorsey talking about what you think of a play concept, what you see that could attack a defense, etc. QB coaches don't just sit down with allen and tell him about footwork and do drills with him - they sit with him and talk about the offense, what they should see, what they should expect, etc.
  16. Thats a cap hit of 32.5M. They can make some space with extensions and restructures but thats a ton of their available cap space for a team that has needs all over the place.
  17. 45M AAV would put him in a tie for 5th in AAV with Mahomes. Rodgers, Wilson, Murray, Watson all have an AAV above 45. Mariota got 9.375M AAV as a backup. Cousins got 35. Stafford got AAV of 40. Same with Dak. Carr at 40.5. So 35 to me is not out of the realm of possibilities. There are no QBs making 15-20M. Wentz and Goff both got 30+ and that was in 2019. Top end backups are in the 6-12 range.
  18. Looking at splits - Fewer RPOs than last year, despite similar levels of success. Similarly effective on Play action. He was less effective under center this season. Intended Air yards were way up Throwaways way down, drops up
  19. I assume Tua is not going because of the injuries. But there are like 15 guys more qualified than huntley. Carr? Wilson? Mac Jones? Huntley had like 600 yards passing.
