Bucky Gleason: Right On the Money

Yet they were criticized for trading up before the draft for the #2 pick. They got the guy they wanted, but what if they had gotten Goff instead? Big risk there. The only reason this looks even better, is dumping bradfords money and getting the pick back. -

Ugh - And yet everyone predicted the Eagles would be terrible this year. There's still a fair chance that they finish in the cellar of that division... However their GM has been solid... They feel they found their franchise QB. They got their 1st round pick back by dumping bradford. They got out of a couple of bad contracts from the Chip Kelly era. They grabbed their old coaches disciple - who added 2 experienced coordinators. And they have some solid young talent: jordan Matthews, Cox, Agholor. I'm not sure they've really done much in the last 2 drafts to bring a ton more though. Graham has never been the big time pass rusher they wanted, and cox hides a lot of their issues on the d-line. I think they'll likely look to shore up the rush in the next draft, as well as upgrade the secondary. Knowing our old boy Schwartz... it'll probably be linemen that he wants. He's always tried to get by with mediocre db's. -
opposing coaches now have game tape
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to HelloNewman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And it seemed like Roman's game plan was to create impossible 3rd down situations. I feel like his run plays were very predictable zone runs to the edge. If you're disciplined and stay in your gap, and your corners can tackle, you will blow them up more often than not. Why not run from under center, split your receivers out wider, add a slot receiver. Make them decide if they want to play nickel or base D. Then we have the advantage of quick passing depending on how they line up, as well as adding clay or a full back as a lead blocker to try and open up holes to get a few yards. -

You mean that #1 overall pick who legit sucked for his first 5 years in the league? And probably got his first GM fired...? Hated the throw on that one, because it was a bad throw. Love the idea, because i figured we'd go for it on 4th down anyway. -
NFL.com: Reasons for Hope at 0-2

Never agreed with this sentiment, the guy was fantastic at bama. Probably like a smaller, quicker donta Hightower. I don't think we can ship dareus off for a bit. It'd cost more than keeping him, should u consider it. As for the other guys, I guess? It's the attitude of someone who truly believes were cursed. -
I'll agree with this. If you catch revis napping - hammer it home. The D had plenty of chances to make plays. They didn't. Its on rex, rob, and every guy playing to make a play on 3rd down.

I was wrong, and I don't mind saying it..

So one guy admits his mistakes - and on your first post you say that you know everything?? You're always right!! Who should we get at QB? Coach? GM? -
Cleveland is starting cody kessler this week... and have a street free agent as a backup. We have dareus coming back in 2 weeks and shaq possibly in 4. I'd like to think we can win a couple of: Rams, Niners, Dolphins twice, Browns, Jaguars. Even throw in the raiders/bengals/seahawks - none of them look like premier teams at this point. Seattle just scored 3 points this past week, and appear to have major issues on the line. Go ahead - throw in the towel... I hate negative fans like this.

I feel like preseason broadcasts are tough for play by play. It's like spring training in baseball. On 3rd base is... #73... some minor league guy...? -

Wade's pushing 70 - and we already fired him once. Pass. -

I haven't put on a browns game. But Cody Kessler and Charlie Whitehurst... sounds pretty exciting to me. -

Can't interview Schwartz for a lateral move when he's under contract. You can only interview both for HC spots. -

The GM nerfed that roster and ate a ton of dead money in the last 2 year's of Rex's tenure there. It was needed since that team was old, and overpaid, and not very talented. He got fired, but he totally set up the new coach/GM for success when you have a ton of money to use to fill some of the holes. 2015 offseason saw them bring in Marshall via trade, Revis, Cro, skrine, gilchrist, and carpenter. Thats a massive secondary upgrade, as well as bringing in a solid guard, and a #1 receiver (who's not without his issues, but he's still solid). Doug Pederson never called plays prior to this year. So I'm not 100% certain he's doing it now. -
When in doubt - blame the QB. It's his fault mccoy has 117 yards rushing between 2 games. And we probably lead the league in negative rushes. I'll say TT made mistakes, but we also had like 3 or 4 3rd and 9s... and a 3rd and 30. We had no rhythm under Roman, i can only hope that its something we try to drive home under lynn. Try throwing 1 pass every 20 minutes and see how accurate it is.

A broad look at GM Candidates
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to filthymcnasty08's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are so many random titles in the NFL... The GM can become VP of personell, and then move someone else into the GM role that they like, rather than lose them. -
They beat the browns AND the Bears? Next stop- super bowl.

At this point - he needs to run more. A lot more. Call some designed QB runs on plays other than 3rd and 1 - etc.
-
Those stats don't include running yards. Or lack of.

Roman almost Kapernicked Tyrod!
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Jobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure we call a ton of plays designed with this in mind. I'm not saying he doesn't have issues - he does. But at the same token, any college kid we draft is going to have issues in one way or another. We don't line up under center or run from under center, he doesn't have much freedom to change plays, we don't play action, we don't bootleg, we only do designed QB runs on 3rd and 1/2. And those designed runs tended to be towards the sidelines, with the rest of Roman's offense. He's not good enough of a pocket passer for that to be his whole game, unless we're going to rock some little short passes to backs/slot guys. We can't do a ton of RB screens, since we typically have linebackers playing contain closer to the line, who can blow up screens if they aren't blocked. But WR screens should open up more with the deep passing game as DBs start playing off more. He needs to master that throw, because its like free yardage if you get it where the receiver can run right after they catch it. We don't run these much since 90% of our formations have the receivers really close to the o-line. Slant window's should also open up as linebackers play closer to the line. This also requires that our receivers play out wider so they can get a step on the coverage. I'd also like to see packaged plays in the repertoire. You need to be at the line quick to read the defense, but basically receivers run routes, and theirs usually a zone read built in as well. Make the call at the line and snap. There's usually a slant/bubble-screen/zone read all on the same play. Receivers run their routes and the QB decides what we actually do. -
Good head coaches don't run the offense or the defense. You need to be in tune to both. Have play calls ready in your back pocket since you can obviously overrule. But knowing when to call what plays in what situation - lets hit em with a play action, or quick snap this 3rd and goal, they're running a ton of cover 2, lets hammer them over the middle, lets try and get after the qb on this 3rd down etc.. Let the coordinator call a specific play, but it's still your team - you make the final calls. You don't need to be saying the whole play to still be influencing the calls. Not to mention, you're in charge of timeouts, keeping track of the clock, challenges, depth chart, substitutions etc. These are things you should be doing as a head coach. Not preparing for defense on the next drive, while your team is on offense. Wade is a great defensive play caller. He knows how to set up his guys for success, and creates a great defensive gameplan - but i don't think he would be great at setting up an offensive game plan. It'd be the exact problem we have with our current head c

Eh - they didn't really beat anyone of note. They did beat Houston - but that team had really questionable QB play for the past few years.
