Should Rex play Gilmore on Green?
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I put gilmore on green. I tell him before the game "Sink or swim time. You are shadowing that m-f-er" -
Yeah - the contract has no outs... which is bad. But we also have a manageable cap hit for 4 years... which is good. Can't have everything. We can dump mccoy after this year if we want to.. 2018 or 19 is more likely since the dead number is lower. Our cap isn't crippled in any way. We project to have 20 mil in space before any moves are made. That is assuming we keep Tyrod. Cutting KW will save us like 6 million. Graham will save us another couple. If Aaron retires, that saves us some more. Even cutting carp saves us 2.5 mil.

Robert Woods updated market value per Spotrac

Hunter over woods? I dunno - Woods and watkins are a nice pair. I'd like to see us bring in a slot guy - Maybe a victor cruz or Amendola (im assuming they are cap casualties) for cheap. Or draft someone who likes to play out of the slot in the middle rounds. -

The Austin and Hurns deals made him a ton more expensive than i thought. I'd like to draft at least... SOMEONE. I know listenbee is like a free pick for next year since he didn't even put pads on this year. -
He's a top 10 QB in an era when the top couple dogs dominated in the playoffs. Mannings, Brady, Brees, Rodgers Id put him behind the non-locks of big ben, rivers because i think he plays effectively for a few more years and runs up some stats, and ahead of carson palmer

Dalton limited with right shoulder designation
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think we're good by any means - but i don't think anyone on our schedule is particularly good at this point either. The Raiders seem to be playing well - but i wouldn't say they're the cream of the crop at this point. We should be in every game from here on out. -
Darby may lose job to White

It isn't ideal, but its showing that Rex has some backbone, and is making the players show some accountability. -

I think its moreso a personell matchup. NRC and the others may be out there when there are 3/4 wide sets. -
I think Brandon Williams is actually pretty underrated. They have the number 1 rush defense in football. If that team could run the ball like we can they might have 7 wins. They have such a bad running game its stunning. Malik Jackson i included... but he wasn't really one of my major picks. I think joseph and floyd are both excellent. Forgot to mention him - but Poe is pretty good in KC. Most of the like good defenses in the NFL do have solid DTs actually. It allows them to do more creative stuff because it's always tough to run, and they create mismatches for the end's and lb's in blitz packages.
-
Yeah - I think Jackson is a smart guy and deserves a fair shot. The people get antsy though. Their Xmas eve home game is going to be played in an empty stadium... Usually not a good look for a Head Coach. I'm usually for that unless you know the guys an idiot. The jag's should have dumped bradley after year 1. Pagano isn't a good head coach even though his record says otherwise.
-
I think the goal specifically in the KC game was to try and defend the screen game - as zone blitzes usually swarm and blow those up. They ended up going down field on us, and maclin had a game against us. It's not something you call frequently, but something you do to mix it up a bit. Considering how often it was utilized, I wouldn't say we like overdid it by any means. Yes they're 0-10 but they also traded 2 former firsts on rookie deals for pennies on the dollar. I don't blame them either, the players weren't good and weren't worth keeping around. They have a ton of picks next year, and the youngest team in the NFL. It's a full tank job. It's just tough for Jackson, because they'll probably fire him before he gets a chance to build a thing.

Taylor has been dealing with groin issue?
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He seems fine, this is a non-story. -
Ehh - he might. He like invented zone blitzing. And because they aren't top 5 they're crap? They have traded their star DE, and best MLB for picks rather than extend them. His refusal to overpay has hurt them, but they have so many picks that their chances of hitting on good players is so much higher. We extended a DT who has played like 30 snaps this year - traded a ton of draft capital for a receiver who has barely played - are missing our voice on defense (possibly forever), and have a malcontent as our best defensive back. It's amazing that we're 4-5 at this point.

He doesn't "have a point"... if dick lebeau asked you to drop into coverage you just did it. I think the key isn't that rex needs his "scheme" guys. He needs more guy's more like patriots players. Who will just do what you tell them to do... It's great having a healthy Watkins - but when he's complaining about getting the ball it's a distraction. I'd rather have soldier's who are willing to go to battle with my game plan, than guys complaining to the media about how they are used. Maybe its Rex's coaching style, but the players need to hold one another more accountable.
-
Yeah - and we've never made the playoffs since he joined the bills organization in 2000. Try a new sales/marketing strategy.... I dunno - his game management seems better, he's relinquishing playcalling, trying to be more involved in the offensive game plan. Turning into a HC instead of a DC. I guess "better" wouldn't be the best word. Evolving into an actual HC instead of a DC with the HC headset?
-
Because its all hindsight... and does nothing to help the team moving forward. I think Rex gets one more year - and he'll probably fail. But he's had some success before, and he seems to be growing into a better coach. After that, all bets are off. But i think you have to look at something beyond... the defense is ranked number 5!! Schwartz is a genius!! Moreso than anything else - that team impressed me with the following: Dumping Maxwells contract Dumping Murrays contract Trading up for Wentz (he looks pretty good) Getting the pick you lost back by trading bradford Getting affordable Free agents and extending what seem like the right kind of players Roseman set that team up for the future... and I still think its tough sledding for them to get in the playoffs. They may be the worst team in their division.

If we rush 4 every play, and just play cover 2 man - they will always have help. The issue is that a super vanilla defense like this will get picked apart by most QBs. If you want to trail technique the smart QB uses his eyes to drag the safety where he wants. If you want to play tight, they'll do back shoulder stuff and hitches. You also run into issues on screens and rub routes. If you want to run 2 deep safeties to "help" gilmore and darby - go right ahead. I'd just run the ball and run short passes and screens all game. -
A tale of two quarterbacks:

3 former QBs... Head coach, O coordinator, QB coach. Oh - and a solid veteran starter in the film study room... Probably helps a tad.
