  1. I'm not arguing with you... a 45 point game against SF is probably about as much as an outlier shutout against a 3rd string QB with a broken thumb. Care to find a specific post I've made that defends the defensive performance from last year? Since i "keep trying to defend" them.
  2. On the flip side - if you take out the highest scoring game on offense we go from 10th to 15th.
  3. Stats that make the O look good - 3rd down % O: 13th in 3rd downs D: 19th in 3rd down defense. 1st downs O: 16th in 1st downs D: 24th in 1st downs allowed. Takeaway/giveaway O: 3rd in Giveaways D: 23rd in takeaways Stats that make them look not so good Sacks O: 4th in sacks allowed D: 8th in sacks Yards per game O: 16th D: 19th Can spin it any way you want if you just pick and choose 1 or the other. Looking at yards per play: 14th in yards per play on offense 20th in yards per play on defense 18th in plays per game on offense 17th in opponent plays per game
  4. I like zone because i feel like you have 3 main options - late? make a tackle - on time? breakup or make a tackle - early? Breakup or INT. Man is tougher on the corners because you might be following them all over the field, they might be lining up in different spots etc. Teams are more and more just moving players around but ending them up in the same places. The checks and adjustments can be a bit more fluid in a zone I think, and you can disguise blitzes more effectively.
  5. Kind of...? Atlanta and Oakland had worse scoring defenses and had way more takeaways. You take the ball away and you create additional opportunities for your offense. I don't think you can look at any one offensive or defensive number and say - that's the most important number. DVOA at least tries to take into account the opponent you're playing, and your comparison to the rest of the league.
  6. 29th against the run and only 4 games with more than 1 takeaway. We won 4 games when we had 1 or fewer takeaways... and they were against SF, CLE, NE (no brady), and JAX. 3 of the worst teams in the league, and a 3rd round rookie with a broken thumb. Gotta create turnovers on defense to be successful in the league. Teams also dont win a lot of games when they allow more than like 3 TDs or so. We didn't win any.
  7. Gonna go with Humber. When we signed Hodges everyone assumed Humber was hitting the bench, much like signing lorax and him circumventing Manny lawson.
  8. More. Maybe they should have run it on 3rd and 1. Or maybe at 2nd and 11 with 4 minutes and the clock running from the 23 yard line.. they should have done something a little more creative than a shotgun snap with an additional 3-5 step drop. Run clock there and you make the field goal... they need 11 in about 3 minutes. IDIOTS!
  9. Yeah - we have no cap room need. And o-linemen get banged up all the time. Is he even injured? I hope he's on the active 45. Looks like they're preparing hodges in case he isn't.
  10. The lions have the space so no worries there. The saints are a mess. If brees were to leave, i expect him to end up in pittsburgh or something. Build an NFL super team to try and beat brady We have to make the decision before we know who the new guy would be, free agency and the draft both occur after. Thats the tricky part.
  11. I think there are a few available qb's who can function as that bridge beyond Tyrod should he not be the guy. Brees I believe is technically available. Same with Stafford. Cousins if you think he can be a franchise guy. Tannehill is likely cut. Bradford is available in that middle tier bridge. Alex Smith also has a nice potential out if they decide to roll with Mahomes. However, if any or all of them are available. Most of those teams are looking for new QBs, so the draft becomes harder to move in. Pittsburgh may be looking too if big ben retires.
  12. What about the last game that Tyrod played? Played pretty well right? Maybe he can build off it. I don't claim to know or predict either way. But I'd love him to be good and ya know - help us win some games.
  13. Wentz was a mechanical mess last year. If he improves that stuff he will be fine. He has tons of weapons now, and a bit more of a west coast offense to help him rack up stats. But a guy with a weird motion, who dropshis arm slot, throws off his back foot, and overthrows passes by 10-15 yards, will not be good in the NFL.
  14. No - you just solely critique a player who gets the most criticism on this board. So... it's kind of played out. We've heard literally all of this before.
  15. I think people have heard every argument about THIS player though.
  16. I mean... he probably makes the 53 because of his draft position and it only being his 2nd year. At the same time - if he's not a gameday contributor it should be a bit of a red flag. Maybe once the bullets fly in the preseason he'll get back up to game speed?
  17. I can say his speed threat allows you to run pistol read/triple options. We had a bunch of success in the redzone with this. You do have to account for him on those plays specifically.
  18. It's the same negative stuff though. We are where we are... he's the guy this year. Can you say truthfully what you want to see from him to decide he's the guy beyond this year? Could you even fathom him being the guy?
  19. Was thinking the same thing, s--t or get off the pot. Docs say ur knee is good, so bring it. 4-3/3-4 its still football bro. Get out of your head and play!
  20. I mean - our numbers aligned very closely on offense with what the niners did when they were in the playoffs ever year. They weren't great, and the QBs definitely had a more limited passing role, but the ground game was great, we scored points, and didn't turn it over. We just didn't have a top 5 defense. Or Top 10. Or Top 15?
  21. I'm basically at the same point. I feel like even if he did all the things you want him to, you'd still want him to fail. Why? So you could be right. On an internet message board.
  22. I think you need a good quarterback. The whole franchise designation is tough for me. A whole different discussion - Why has Rodgers won 1, but Eli manning has 2? Brees and the saints have been 7-9 4 out of 5 years. The patriots have the best QB in the league, so they're the best team in the league every year. But the Broncos won a super bowl with a shell of manning, the 49ers and Ravens both got there mostly on the strength of defense. Seattle is a perennial contender because of their defense. I think that you need to have an elite unit (offense or defense), and one good unit. You won't get far with a bad defense, or a bad offense. You also need to have some bounces go your way. Teams with more takeaways tend to go further than teams with fewer. Teams that turn it over less tend to do better than teams with more.
  23. I don't think they're unreasonable... I just think its like - too late to have this argument? It was fine when we were like, deciding what we wanted to do at QB. But now that he's the guy, shouldn't you hope it just clicks? Shouldn't you want him to be good? If you don't think it will, thats fine. But he's going to be given every chance for it to click. Why would you root against him?
