  1. I don't know how often we'll be in 12 personell vs 21 anyway. Maclin plugs in as a starter who plays almost all the snaps. Barnidge plays maybe half? I guess we assume he plugs in when clay inevitably misses time. We did add a top fullback so i assume they plan to use him some to offset the need for a good TE2.
  2. Barnidge never had more than 13 catches before the last 2 seasons and is 31 years old. Maclin had his worst year last year due to injury, has had 2 80+ reception seasons and 5 seasons of 60 or more.
  3. Yeah - first thing i saw. And it is the least competitive division in football... the same team will win.
  4. I think my least favorite thing about rex's defense was all the checks. A - you cover this guy, unless he goes over there, then B will cover him. B - you cover THIS guy, unless A's guy comes in, then you cover him and pass your guy off to C. Oh and C- youre helping cover A's guy unless B's guy comes into your area. Oh.. and chris hogan? Dont bother covering him...
  5. He can be the Aaron Donald type of disruptive inside presence. Having that makes everyone else's job easier. QBs step into other players for sacks, LBs/DBs can jump routes for under pressure QBs. It makes everything else easier when the QB can't get comfortable back there.
  6. Remember when we got rolled for 200 yards by Ajayi (twice), and Bell.. and just generally had one of the worst rushing defenses in the NFL? I do... This guy can tackle, and this guy can hit. His pass rushing abilities aren't bad for someone who traditionally played MLB. He will be a useful player.
  7. I'm concerned that there isn't an out in his contract til 2019... The bigger mistake was drafting CJ spiller in the first round when we had jackson and lynch. You gave yourself a reason to get rid of lynch by doing that - and we needed Oline help and WRs. We went into 2010 with Lee Evans in a walk year - a 7th round pick in stevie johnson, and 2 UDFAs in nelson and donald jones... And we trade lynch, and draft spiller instead of Dez. Woof. Great job Buddy!
  8. Humber and PB can rotate in... the 2 rookies as well. Its not a bad position all things considered. I'm more concerned about the DE depth at this stage.
  9. I don't get the bridgewater love. Fewer yards passing, Fewer TDs, more INTs, and fewer rushing yards than tyrod. What am i missing here?
  10. We do get more cap room on June 1st, but all the June 1st cuts have already happened so those players have been available for some time now.
  11. Street free agents are cheaper and probably as good or better.
  12. I'm not trying to get into a petty argument here. Your opinion is that the Pegula's are idiots, I guess I disagree with that sentiment. I hope that they learned from their initial mistakes. They don't seem to meddle in day-to-day operations of the team - IE the Nets owner forcing the GM into a horrible trade, or Jerrah Jones just getting involved in every aspect of talent evaluation. They made a mistake of pairing a coach and GM together with no history, and tried to keep the status quo. GM evaluates/signs players and handles the roster, and the coach handles the coaching. They should've used Marrone leaving as an opportunity to build the organization from the ground up. Mcdermott seems to have a vision of what his team will be, and wanted to bring in a GM who shares and can help achieve that vision. I hope that they looked at his experience, and more importantly that vision when they evaluated him as a candidate. That IS my opinion.
  13. He was hired by Brandon - then the ownership transition. Inherited a mediocre team, and left us a mediocre team. Had multiple bosses, some success, and some failures. I think he knew he was done after that disaster press conference.
  14. If Schwartz stuck around and we hired Jackson, it would've been for the best. Getting rid of Marrone's Run-Run-Pass-Punt offense was huge, bringing in Rex's "antiquated" mess was also huge.
  15. You also assumed what you read in the buffalo news is exactly what happened.
  16. You're presenting speculation as fact. You don't link any reports... and none of the people doing the reporting on this stuff were even there. That is the definition of speculation.
  17. Kind of true... holding is still applicable so you can't grab/tackle. You can just contact them.
  18. I think what Hondo is saying is that... you take something someone said/wrote about and drew a certain conclusion from it without a ton of information. All he's saying is that he believes that they may have taken a business like approach, not necessarily treated the team like a business. They went in looking for a certain type of candidate, and thought they found that guy in Mcdermott.
  19. Hoping he can get better at punting by focusing on it. Schmidt was terrible last year.
  20. Carpenter was the worst kicker in the league last year. 76% on FGs, missed 5 XPs, and can't do kickoffs... Just being middle of the road is a huge upgrade. Hauschka AAV is under 3 mil per year... It's not like we went on a crazy spending spree at kicker... we just knew we needed that position to be better than it was. Yes - he missed 6 XPs in 2016. He also was 6/6 from 50+ in 2015 - and had 54 touchbacks to carpenters 28 in 2016.
  21. We built our offense around ball control, not turning it over, and ground and pound. That may not sit well with a lot of people on the board for various reasons, but we can say that that was the intended offensive identity. Tyrod was not great, but we can say sufficient since he at the very least presided over an offense that was in the top 10 or so in scoring. The Niners playoff teams under harbaugh had similar offensive splits, and nearly won a super bowl. The biggest flaw in building a team around this identity, was that we were lacked the defense to implement this offense. We were near the bottom of the league in both rushing defense, and takeaways. You can't run a ground and pound offense, when your defense can't get off the field. The 49ers DID have a defense that excelled in both these categories - hence why they were great in an era when passing numbers have exploded. They were confident not turning it over and winning tight games.
  22. Kind of why i like zo though - he's done it all and won't complain about his role.
  23. I still don't like that team until they can run the ball. But that's me
  24. It also has the minus effect of guaranteeing that money - essentially you can't cut him. I prefer that strategy to in-house guys, because you knwo what you're getting.
