Comparing Starting Day Rosters
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
not sure how you can call teams a push... Haushka isn't a terrible kicker, carpenter is. Thats an improvement. -
I wouldn't start a rookie over an incumbent starter unless the team had an open competition (we didn't), and he earned the job outright. He's had some time with the ones due to injury, and the coaching staff has seen more of what he can do than maybe they planned. We saw some good stuff from him in the preseason. He's already the #2 over another player that the team brought in with more experience. Now he'll get some experience in game planning, and film study prior to each match-up. He likely has a long way to go there. They can now spend some more time in practice getting him reps on what he most needs to work on, and get him ready for when he inevitably steps in. Starting NP over TT at this juncture would alienate the team imo, and signal the thought that the season is lost before it begins. TT needs to play poorly enough to lose the job, or get injured, for it to feel like NP deserves a chance to start.

Peterman has not done enough to justify taking the starters job imo. Sub 60% passing and sub 6.0 YPA. I know he had plays called back on penalties, but that happens to every QB and player. He had 1 TD in 80 passes. Tyrod had 3 in his last REAL game. He played alright, but we know he won't drive the ball down the field, and we know he won't be able to make plays with his legs. What does he do when his first target isn't there? If Tyrod gets injured, he's going to need to be a lot better than that to help the team win games, as well as justify keeping the job when he returns. Or just - not picking QBs at all.

Trapasso: Is Preston Brown Good or Not?
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He's looked pretty solid so far. Never seems out of place. Hopefully the entire team tackles better than a year ago. -
This is how epically bad we are.

Saw the browns do it when they cleaned house too. The sammy trade-up was a bad trade. We got one player for the price of 3. If the Bills staff didn't believe that they could extend him for what they felt he was worth, and had no interest tagging him... then this is unfortunately what you have to do. It's not about paying per position or anything like that, its about paying a player what they believe his value is imo. Having Dareus, Glenn, and Clay contracts on the books for at least 2018 isn't helping matters. If they were playing as the great players that they were paid to be, we wouldn't be going into this season expecting to be terrible. In the 2018 draft, obviously QB is the #1 priority. But we're going to need a new pair of DTs by likely 2019 as thats the first cap relief we can get from cutting Dareus. Glenn needs to figure out his injury, but we'll likely need a LT sooner rather than later. Hughes isn't exactly young, so then you have to look at pass rush. We need LBs. Lot of holes, and lots more coming with the age of a lot of our talent. -

I look at it like this. We set ourselves back with ej, and never got our qb. Watkins wants 150 targets, and we can't afford to tag him. As for cleaning house, we have bad contracts on the books as well as bad drafts. Rex just had Whaley draft his guys, while he just plugged others into roles that didn't suit them. Beane wouos rather trade a player who may price themselves out, or isn't a great scheme for, for draft capital. -

So who's YOUR starting qb?
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's not that it isn't a big deal - it's just that you can't throw away a body of work... a training camp... leadership... etc. Because of a bad practice game. Peterman has had some success, but it's not as if we were walking up and down the field. We scored 1 TD against baltimore and it was assisted by a few penalties by them. 6 punts and 7 points. We had a few nice plays called back on penalties sure (but we also had penalty assists on our TD drive) - he also doesn't have the big play capability to get us out of those types of jams. Let him sit until Tyrod actually loses the job. -

it's preseason... -
When almost 10% of your cap is tied up in a DT who can't be bothered to show up to the stadium for the game on time... You should probably look at rebuilding. Another 7.5% is tied up in a LT who has a chronic foot problem. Another 5% tied up in a TE who has a chronic knee issue. 22% of the cap is tied up in those 3 players who all have their problems. This is a flawed roster build, and the only way to fix it is in the draft.
-
They wouldn't have brought him back if they didn't plan to play him. If he fails during the season - Peterman will get some games.
-
He could've been great for us - but with several really bad contracts on the books... it's tough to keep extending people
-
When you trade back in the first - and trade your best WR, as well as a young CB... its pretty clear that they know this team is in need of a major shakeup.

Tyrod had some excellent games last year. Why are you writing off his accomplishments based on some sloppy pre-season play?
