  1. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/RomaGr0.htm He had a concept of running the ball and not turning it over. If that's the goal, you first off need to have a good defense. The 2nd thing you have to do is simplify passing concepts to avoid high traffic areas, and "throwing people open". He probably had a lower 3 and out % in SF because Gore is more of a hard nosed running back, and McCoy has a tendency to get negative plays.
  2. They still don't. They have Abdullah if he can stay healthy this year. I never was that impressed with him though, he needs to use his speed better. I hate matt stafford, but for an unjustified reason. He's a fine QB, he just looks like a guy who skipped out on like 4 months rent and cost me a couple hundred bucks.
  3. That's what I was essentially saying... its a team game. I wonder what his stats would look like with our 2016 receiving corps.
  4. The Greg Roman passing offense doesn't get YAC really. Its a lot of out routes, dig routes, go routes, occasional posts. No RB screens, no slants, no bubble screens. Watching guys like landry and antonio brown rack up catches and yards by essentially running the ball with screens, quick slants, and drags must drive sammy crazy. Considering that is what he excelled at in college.
  5. we were really good in the red zone last year fwiw I dunno - when he wasn't healthy it was like beating a dead horse trying to get him involved. But when he's healthy i think he opens things up quite a bit.
  6. Hopkins has been pretty good hasn't he? Between this, watkins, and bryants suspensions though... not a good look.
  7. Oh man! Everyone on this board wanted to draft him.. imagine how ballistic the board would've gone!
  8. Both KC and OAK did a good job taking care of the football last year. A nice outlier and regression example would be carolina with 39 takeaways in 2015, and 27 in 2016. Both very good numbers, so that suggests that their defense was good at taking the ball away. They had 19 turnovers in 2015 and 29 in 2016. They went from +20 to -2, and 15-1 to 7-9. They had some terrible luck last year with turnovers and losing close games. They were in Miami territory and rivers threw a pick 6 and they lost. The 2 raiders games were there for the taking, and their defense is underrated. They added Mike Williams, and get Keenan Allen back. Added Okung on the line. Still have Rivers and Gordon. New HC in Anthony Lynn. Bringing back Whisenhunt who was really successful in his 1 year in SD. They could win that division and I wouldn't be surprised.
  9. KC and Oakland were 1,2 in the league in takeaways. That tends to fluctuate a bit from year to year, and also tends to have a pretty large association with wins. KC was good the past 2 years though, and they have a good pass rush so you never know.
  10. Their defense is legit, and they were rolling along until Anderson got hurt. Lost a couple tight ones too. I look at Oakland as the team with a decent chance of regression. Lots of takeaways, not a lot of turnovers so they had a massive TO diff. Really good record in super tight games - the NO conversion at the end baltimore was at midfield with a minute left down 1 on 1st down chargers fumbled on in the red zone in the 4th quarter of a 3 point loss, and then fumbled with a 3 point lead in the 4th quarter the 2nd time) win over TB in OT tight win against Carolina. If anything that shows me that San Diego could be decent with a little luck on their side.
  11. We had some bad pass protection breakdowns, and had trouble getting lined up. Trouble getting lined up means jumping our snap count, which means blowing up run plays, and getting to the QB.
  12. We had 30 first downs in that game. Scored 31 points, and had 589 yards. Derek carr and oakland had 30 first downs 1 time last season. New England didn't all year until the super bowl.
  13. Hence drafting someone else, and bringing in TJ yates. They wanted Cardale in so badly that they essentially planned to get rid of him.
  14. To be fair - they are west teams travelling east. They tend to do worse. The raiders 4 worst offensive performances were all road games.
  15. Yeah - disregarding Cooper and Crabtree is ridiculous. They have a top 5 o-line in football and had 3 running backs averaging 4 or more per carry. They had a better punter, a better kicker. Oh and their defense had 30 takeaways - 2nd most in the NFL.
  16. They weren't very accurate in 2016, so what makes you think they will be in 2017? http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/nfl-predictions-win-totals-las-vegas-gambling-2016-how-many-wins-patriots-051716
  17. I look at it like - we've had scouts run the team. They didn't do a great job of valuing players based on their contributions, and over-valued certain players with regards to picks (sammy, EJ, kouandjo, graham, goodwin), as well as money (Dareus, Glenn, Tyrods first deal, repeatedly paying harvin). Overpaying, and bad cap habits are the reason we lost players like woods, gilmore, Searcy, Levitre. We may have still lost some of them because of contract demands, but we should have at least had the cap space to replace them more effectively. Now having said that, they did bring in many talented players and free agents. We aren't at a browns level of incompetence.
  18. They also get this year to see what you might have in James Conner. They can tag bell again next year and if Conner's no good they have both 2018 and 2019 drafts/free agency to replace him.
