I thought both rapp and edwards deals were mainly depth. Neither deal was even top 10 of what was given out in free agency and from an AAV perspective both are below the top 32 at S. Interested to see what Elam can do with a new secondary coach and defensive coordinator. Hopefully he's coming to camp ready to rock.

Why? They get the benefit of massive endorsement deals much like Brady. I don't know that they're chasing dollars in the same way.

He's likely in competition with Hollins in that role we never seem to be able to fill (Kumerow, Sherfield) - you'd eat dead cap on hollins, but you'd fill in with a lower salary so it's probably a wash. Also potential practice squad injury reserve if he looks the part. ... Something tells me we're not "done" at the position with this signing though 🙂

Probably a tie-in to the fox news crowd? I dunno. Terry's old annoying and i can't even understand him half the time, and Jimmy is just old and out of it (he's 80).

Interesting. The Fox NFL Sunday is still rolling deep with Terry and Jimmy despite both being terrible.

What's the point of this team's philosophy?
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think the time of possession metric can be somewhat overrated... However... in games against Jax, cincy, and Denver - Buffalo had substantial disadvantages on time of possession. And those were games where our defense looked the most beaten. Either from inability to run the ball against the jaguars and bengals, to the turnover fest against denver, that was something that they prioritized under brady. Usually improvements on TOP are attributed to a few things though - More effective run game Improved 3rd/4th down conversions Defensive stops/takeaways The defense was able to get 2 stops... and 0 entering the 4th quarter. It's very difficult to win when you don't get stops. -
It's also a hell of a 2-high counter punch to be able to just consistently run the ball down the other teams throat. We have better counters to 0-blitz teams with big dudes who can win 1x1 battles. I think we'll struggle with "sticky man" at times, but again the best counter to that is to occasionally just throw it over there. The reason we get fewer PI/DH penalties than other teams is largely because we don't throw it at them. The other counter to "sticky man" coverage is to just have a bigger WR who can fight through that.

I think Buffalo might be trying to prioritize being a more physical team, especially come playoff time. The recent playoff losses have been as much to do with an inability to control the LOS on either side of the ball as much as anything else. You want to stick to our pass catchers and hold? Well we now have multiple ways to counter and create YAC on shorter passes - either with size (knox, kincaid, coleman), pass catching backs (cook and davis), and quickness (Shakir, Samuel).

How about we let the new guys play.. a down before we blame them for previous players failures? -

We got other samuel too. Some samuel can play in the slot 🙂 -

I am open to this depending on compensation (you aren't getting any of my next 4 picks this season)... and I would still want to get a WR at 33. Truthfully this guy is one of my favorite players to watch in the league, and he'd be an absolutely lethal player in this offense. I think Brady/McD/Beane know this so you have to consider it if you can make the math work. Doing it means Shakir is probably playing a bit more boundary, and other Samuel is probably used a bit differently. -
Certainly possible. There's going to be another run - then i think our next one will be a move up in the 4th round for another.
-
I'm just concerned if you move back and NE takes the WR you want. Or the chargers. You've moved back twice... get the guy you want because he won't be there at 60, and might not be there at 37.

The Bills are on the clock: Pick 33
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Process's topic in The Stadium Wall
But if its at the cost of a guy you want (say troy franklin), is it worth it? Because NE picks right after us, has a big need at boundary WR, and had a top 30 visit with him. -

Depends what you can get from feeling out NE - they pick at 34. But Franklin being one of their top 30 visits (and one of only 2 WRs they brought in) makes me think he will be our pick at 33 if he's the one we want from this group. -

I think knowing 2 of the next 4 picks after 33 are going to teams (NE, and LAC) who desperately need help at boundary WR makes me think you have to get your guy here at 33. -

I feel like between rapp and edwards - they should already be considered depth. Bringing in a Simmons or Jackson is an immediate upgrade. Hell, i feel like Hyde is better than both of them. -

I think there's a difference between unproductive college players who are undrafted and all-american multi-year starters. -

I still don't understand why everyone says he's a safety. -

Isn't he a corner though? -
4 5ths means they can also maneuver a few picks around in round 2-3, as well as bumping up the 4th. I think there are more roster spots available than in the past so while i don't think buffalo needs the 10 picks they have, 8 feels about right. 2 WRs, 1 S, 1 CB, 1 DE, 1 DT, 1 OL, 1 RB. I don't think they need to use premium picks on positions like RB and CB necessarily.

Buffalo Bills: Good, Not Great
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to NORWOODS FOOT's topic in The Stadium Wall
He's also like 170 lbs which is lighter than mckenzie. I can't picture him ever being anything but a minus as a blocker. His tape also doesn't really show this guy as someone screaming down the field catching bombs. Yup - a more flexible player, who is quicker and more of a yac threat. His biggest impact was as a PR in the super bowl, and his drops all but knocked him out of the depth chart.
