  1. Once we're out of it - I can comfortably switch because it becomes more of an evaluation. At this point the starter has practiced and game planned with the 1's for 10 weeks - and has a winning record to show for it. He played a terrible game - but lets not act like the rest of the team played well.
  2. We did have quick throws. They got batted down. If you recall - NP had passes batted down at the line in preseason. It's likely an issue with o-line as much as QB. You bring in a rookie, and you dare teams to crowd the line and confuse him with blitz packages and pickups. Confusing causes turnovers. Turnovers lose games.
  3. Looked like they were constantly in tampa 2 and cover 3 looks - and some of the 3rd and long play calls only had 1 or 2 guys beyond the sticks. They're giving you the underneath because they trust their ability to tackle short of the sticks. Screwing up first down in this game is what cost us all day. We had what, one 3rd and short after the first drive, and we couldn't get a yard with our short yardage back.
  4. The raiders and bucs didn't really expose him... neither did atlanta, or denver. We're not going to win shootouts with peterman either. We aren't a shootout team at this point. We need to run the ball better and get into makeable 3rd down's. It'd also help if we stopped the other team and had some decent field position. We never started anywhere beyond the 25 yard line - all game long.
  5. The defense needs to be better. Flat out. Don't care who the QB is if teams are running up 30-40 points on us. We aren't built for that.
  6. I remember the 49ers did something like that with Alex Smith and Kaepernick, but it may have been injury related? I can't recall. Also Kaepernick had been with the team for a year and a half at that point. If you want to push the pocket then i'll spread 4 wide and roll shotgun. Pockets are deeper creating more seams for running and passing, as well as making it easier to buy time. The formula to stop whatever we're doing is out there. So... do something different. You can't get the Outside zone working... soooo maybe don't run it?
  7. Hey bro - the defense you're defending has given up 500 yards rushing in the last 2 weeks. They committed terrible penalties... missed like 40 tackles in two weeks... forced 0 punts! And you want to blame time of possession? If the formula to stop him was so easy - we'd be 0-9, not 5-4.
  8. I think you're thinking of gaines. Johnsons only been on the injury report twice (questionable), and i believe he's played in every game.
  9. Isn't he the run game coordinator?
  10. Fairly true - obvious exceptions. They played a strong zone game and we didn't call a game designed to beat it. We didn't flood sides of the field, we didn't level out the coverage, and the interior line muddied the pocket all day. He had some time to throw, he just couldn't step up and create time. We had no run game so play action was moot, and it felt like every 3 step drop got batted at the line. The gameplan for this game was very poor - that cannot be argued.
  11. We're generally worse than last years team in every statistical category. One could say it almost has to be SOMEWHAT related to coaching... It's one of the more major offensive unit changes.
  12. Right - but if based on certain formations and down/distance tendencies the defense knows what you are doing. It becomes significantly more difficult to make said blocks.
  13. And he got his job when the starter was injured.
  14. Trading him in the offseason doesn't get him off the books for 2019. Also - there is no market as teams will look at free agents (no compensation) and the draft (controllable contract) before looking at a massively overpaid, out of shape, lazy player.
  15. I'm not apologizing for anything. He had the worst contract in the NFL, and was under performing. He played in 8 games last year. He's late for meetings, he crashed his car drag racing, got caught with synthetic weed, been suspended multiple times. He was even late to the actual FIELD for a preseason game. An away-game! Guy has no accountability, and was paid to be our best player. Also - conditioning has been an issue.
  16. I know, so was i... The contract has 0 value, and there is no market in the offseason. People will likely just sign someone else. If we waited to trade him until next year we also have dead money on the books for 2019... defeating the purpose of getting rid of him.
  17. Well... we did get some cap flexibility - especially in 2019 when we would've probably had to cut him. Now we have no hit in 2019, whereas if we cut him it would've been around 10 mil. It was probably the worst contract in the NFL. The fact that he barely played made it even worse, but that was a bad contract even if he was OK as a football player. That's why we got rid of him. If we fire him at 5-4, wouldn't he have delivered a winning product?
  18. I mean - were jordan, rankins, okafor, and lattimore playing on the final drive?
  19. That's not really true... but there are some concepts that college spread offenses use with athletic QBs that do work. We just don't/won't use them.
  20. If you have tom brady, you don't run read-option's and bootlegs. You're more comfortable with quick passes because he can diagnose the defense pre and post snap better than anyone. If you have TT, maybe you don't run anticipation timing routes. Why play to your player's worst attributes? Why not use read-option to get the defense moving horizontally, and adding some guess work. Why not pass from shotgun more? He has a better depth to avoid those batted balls, and he seems better at escaping pressure when he's in shotgun. You can also do Run-pass options out of shotgun.
  21. I'm not going to defend tyrod - 3 batted balls, gunshy, happy feet. Was a total disaster. But at the same time... we were in 3rd and long all game long because of his stubborn refusal to run read-option and pass more out of the shotgun.
  22. I mean - he's not a scout and we didn't have our real GM at that point. So I'm fine with taking a safer approach to the draft and getting scheme and leadership fits in year 1. Year 2? We need to bring in a QB.
  23. They were terrible last week, and not particularly good this week. We're a running team, and oustide of a Tyrod draw and shady run we did literally nothing.
  24. They need to be audibling the running plays- were supposed to be a running team and were in third and long all game. Dennison is supremely stubborn if he thinks this outside zone crap is successful right now.
  25. Tyrod did well in garbage time against the jets... it means very little. He looked pretty good, that's good but I don't make a qb change based on that. i think Rico needs to look at his game plan the last two weeks and figure out what we are. We are not an outside zone rushing team, and if we are we need the ability to change the play on the fly. It looks like the defense knows what we're doing all game long. There were plenty of get the ball out plays... they were batted down.
