  1. I met Chris Hairston at Encore back in Summer of maybe 2012? Really big dude.
  2. He'd be overpaid as a backup... but after watching the following people play football, i don't even think its always a bad decision to pay a fair amount for a backup Savage Simien Hundley Beathard Fitz Osweiler Gabbert Stanton Moore Petty Yates Hogan Kizer Lynch Manuel Fales Glennon Brisset Cassel I mean - Arizona and denver don't even have QBs. We saw what happened when Watson went down. I'm sure Ravens fans would love to trot ryan mallet out again. Or for the packers/colts to have to lose a whole season because they can't win a game under Hundley/brisset. Especially after watching minnesota and philly ride their backups to the playoffs.
  3. A - Probably teams who have been really bad for a while now, or someone who has a young QB and no viable backup. The team's he's played on have won more games than they have lost, and they didn't exactly have all-pro receivers and linemen. B - If we don't plan to use the cap space, maybe? It also functions as a protection should we not be able to sign anyone pre-draft. c - Going into the draft with nate peterman at QB will make it patently obvious what we plan to do with the 21/22 picks.
  4. After they benched Gillislee, he had 10+ carries every game except 1. He had over 1000 total yards. When it comes to backup RBs, I'd honestly rather have the comp pick.
  5. He'll be more expensive, and will count against the comp pick formula. It also depends whos the QB, and how you plan to use the guy. I think he's looking to start, not be a backup/spell back.
  6. I mean... NE uses theirs all the time in the passing game. Philly had the what... #3 rushing attack in the NFL? If you don't have an elite back, you need an elite o-line.
  7. I like it simply for the fact that he'd be cheap, he doesn't have a ton of tread on the tires, and i think we'll add a 3rd back in this offense. Also, as a cap casualty he would not factor into a comp pick formula while simultaneously filling a need. Not sure what it would look like, but we probably have 3 guys lost in Brown, Gaines, Matthews.
  8. They can tag watkins if they want... then the first priority will be donald. Who will want more money than Suh, and likely won't play under a 5th year option if he can prevent it. Not paying him will just result in more headaches down the line and rough negotiations. The 2nd priority becomes extending peters/gurley. Peters will want to be the highest paid CB in the NFL. Ditto for Gurley wanting to be the highest paid RB in the NFL in 2019. Gurley may also not want to play under a 5th year option, as he plays the position where players seem to be hurt the most. Then you have Watkins, who i'm not sure will sign there in 2018 unless he's tagged. He knows he can go to SF or something and be the #1 and get like 90 catches (assuming he's healthy). Could be a tag/trade candidate so that they can recoup some 2018 draft capital. They have the cap room to make it work, but Donald already held out once, so he's very likely to do it again. If Peters is being traded on his rookie contract as a 2x All-pro corner, then I assume he's also likely to hold out of his 5th year option. After all this, you have the problem of having the highest paid DT, CB, and RB in the NFL. And a QB who's rookie contract will be expiring. Will be interesting to see what they do.
  9. They also lost Trumaine Johnson. Peters is probably an upgrade, but he must be a bit of a diva for them to move him on his rookie deal.
  10. If he can't take the job from Tyrod, then he probably doesn't deserve to start.
  11. I also think a guy like Beane is going to put a maximum value on him, and not overpay. His production would have to be very high for him to justify an 8-12 million dollar cap hit. If you don't think that you're going to get that production, you don't offer him that money.
  12. We don't have a ton of cap room at the moment, and a considerable number of holes. QB1 WR2 RB2 C1 (Groy moves in but who knows how comfortable they are in that) RG1 (ducasse/miller i guess...?) RT1 (mills sucks) LCB1 NCB1 (possibly bring back johnson) MLB1/2 SLB1 DT1/2 LDE1 (depending on what you think of lawson) I don't really think they'll go after any of the top layer of free agents for that reason. They're still remaking the roster the way that they want to see it. If they can bring back williams for another year I think they would. He'll be relatively affordable and is a great leader.
  13. I know McD likes to get his own guys, but i don't think he tends to overvalue them. We rotated a ton at DT this year, and traded our most talented one away for cap relief. I think we'll try to bring back Kyle, and add someone at a lower price point. Keeping dolphus and thornton for depth. Likely not using a 1st for a DT, and maybe drafting one later in the draft maybe? We need so much help at LB and pass rush, that i wouldn't want to see them use a ton of draft capital or cap space on DTs.
  14. IF FLACCO had thrown for more than 25 yards, maybe Baltimore doesn't get blown off the field in London. IF FLACCO hadn't thrown 2 picks against Chicago, maybe Baltimore doesn't need to win against the Bengals in the finale...
  15. If he walks, I think he likely falls into the 3rd round range for a comp pick? Could be 4/5 though. Not sure where Matthews falls, and/or Preston brown. We'll need to sign some replacements for sure. Hopefully some of the fringe guys factor in like Leonard Johnson, Shareece Wright, or maybe Humber. I never really know who counts or why though.
  16. Hey - He played pretty well in a few games this year. Both Jets games, the TB game, the ATL game, the DEN game, KC game, both Miami games. Stats don't jump out but I don't really care about stats when I watch the game though. I watched those games, and I can recognize that he played well.
  17. Agree. They do get the small victory of not having to trade anything to acquire him though.
  18. Yeah, there were the obvious drops. Then there were ones where he just couldn't make a play on a tough pass. Not everything is going to be right in the bread basket. Most aren't. He didn't show an ability to make tough catches, and that's a concern.
  19. Same or similar players had us 10th in points and 16th in yards in 2016. This year we were 22nd in points in 29th in yards. So yes - I blame Dennison. He made the team worse and I'm glad he was fired. Red zone TD scoring - 64.81% in 2016 to 51.11% in 2017 Rushing YPA - 5.3 in 2016 to 4.1 in 2017 We were even worse at passing... 5.4 NYA in 2017 16 TDs and 10 picks 5.8 NYA in 2016 17 TDs and 7 picks Same RB, TE, QB, most of the O-line. And significantly worse results. What did we get better at under Dennison?
  20. I know - Matthews was hurt his entire time here... Deonte Thompson was a UDFA in 2012, and is on his 2nd stint with the team... Benjamin was a midseason acquisition, and hurt his knee so he missed some time and never got fully integrated with the offense... Even Zay had a shoulder injury. Tyrod was bad, but we also had some of the worst WRs in the NFL.
  21. I think taking the tarps off is a waste of time - they aren't a rabid fan base by any means.
  22. I never understand PFF tbh.... From an eye test, they're at best middle of the road. Tyrod definitely got himself into trouble, and they definitely didn't help him out at times.
