  1. I'd be interested in britt or mitchell. They both have some experience in a erhardt perkins system. Assuming theyre healthy...
  2. That is a rather big mistake... Even if you leave yourself 10 seconds or something its still better. Tennessee had 2 timeouts as well. Why not make them use them? I probably wouldn't have opted for the squib kick either. Christies limited leg may have forced their hand though. Maybe have a high and short kick plan or something along those lines. It's that type of situational football that you need to think about. More food for thought... The clock starts as soon as the kickoff begins (in 1999), so if you had limited it to maybe 8-10 seconds, you can kick it out of bounds and leave them with only like 4 seconds from their 40. A FG is impossible
  3. And you see teams that are built that way succeed a lot of the time. Strategy will only get you so far - at the end of the day its players executing that strategy, and trust in one another to do their jobs.
  4. So we're going to pay a guy 100 million because he eats space? He was paid to be a top 3 playmaking DT in the NFL. To rush the passer, and to be a player you had to gameplan around. He was not any of those things. Good Riddance. They paid him 5 mil last year, and a little over 10 this year. Those are reasonable numbers for a space eating NT/DT. We traded him so that we could get half his dead money on the books for 2017 and eliminate his fully guaranteed 2018 base salary. Saves Pegula some 15 million in cash.
  5. Yeah - there arent exaclty a ton of #1 receivers available at the moment. Having said that - i'd like to see them figure out a way to get kerley back on the 53.
  6. I guess - 10 sacks in 2014 and first team all-pro. He has like 6 since. He missed half of 2016. The first game of 2015. And seemed to basically have a sore groin the entirety of his time here since 2014.
  7. i was a little sick of the drama dareus brought with him. If he wasn't getting in trouble with the law, he was coming into camp out of shape.
  8. Having said that - I'd move a late round pick for him but only if they took benjamin. They have to pay benjamin the rest of the year, we get more cap room this year to carry over into 2019. And when i say late i mean maybe give back the 5th we got from them.
  9. Yeah - for a 1 year rental in 2019. His value here this year doesn't matter because we aren't good.
  10. He's on the roster next year so the comp pick would be 2021 as he wouldn't hit free agency until 2020.
  11. His salary jumps to 13 million next year which is easily navigated under the salary cap - especially considering benjamin will be 100% released. I'd be on board with it if the price were right. I assume they would want to get out of the 5th year option if they are considering moving him.
  12. Yeah - bottom line is we're probably spinning a higher profit this year, and going into the next year with more cap space as well as actual dollars to spend.
  13. Yeah - thriving to the tune of sub 200 yards passing, and 2 TDs and 3 picks through week 3. That teams been all defense. Less than a hundred on the ground every week, tons of sacks, takeaways, and even 2 defensive TDs. I assume Beane was there and they indicated a few things. 1 - we're rebuilding and a lot of this season will be based on evaluating players 2 - we have a massive dead cap number, and probably the worst roster in the league 3 - all of that dead money is money that was already paid to players, so we probably have the cheapest roster in the league 4 - we will likely turn a higher profit than the previous year due to paying out less in player salaries and signing bonuses 5 - we have a lot of draft picks, and a lot of cap space to make moves to address holes in 2019
  14. This would be some sound logic TBH. If Mahomes had played at the senior bowl i think there would have been a better chance of us selecting him. The extended looks in practice, and the game film in more pro style offenses etc was important for McDermotts evaluation - based on the fact that we drafted 4 guys who played in the senior bowl (3 on offense). It's a tall task for McD to scout everyone himself based on the fact that he was coaching all season the previous year. I imagine he watched a ton of film, but at the end of the day it's clear he wanted to get guys he met and liked.
  15. I thought we fired Whaley already... Also Alex Smith had the best qb rating in the NFL last year with this offense... And they added more to it. Mahomes is set up to succeed.
  16. No - he's walking in 2019. You cannot extend him mid-season. If you want him - sign him in FA next year. Why trade future players to try and fix a bad team?
  17. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but he just hasn't figured out how to separate. Its a big issue. I'd like to see more short timing stuff with him. Especially as it seems like loading the box and blitzing with man coverage is pretty much the plan to stop our offense.
  18. If you could get something for benjamin sure. He just doesn't seem like a very good football player.
  19. Get ahead of sticks - less likely to have penalties running than pass blocking - less likely to get turnovers - set up PA... Seems smart especially with a rookie QB.
  20. Are we a running team? We're the 24th ranking rushing team.
  21. They took a look at the receivers on the roster... And tried to upgrade them. He had raw abilities that we needed, especially speed. He was acquired for basically nothing meaning cutting him was never off the table. We can't complain about how bad the receivers are and not acknowledge them trying to get some talent in there. Not keeping him shows to me that he doesn't get it, and with all his talent he can't put it together.
  22. It's different and unconventional. It's just an idea. Otherwise they go down the same road of either slowly beginning to rebuild their roster in year 1, or fully gutting their roster on year 2 or 3 of a QB contract. He seems like... a good not great QB. Somewhere around that dalton/flacco/tannehill level. They all have moments where they look great, and moments where they look inconsistent.
  23. The idea is that the team will be dismantled if you extend him anyway. 5th year option buys you a year. Then he gets his extension and it becomes a major problem to keep players. The late round guy would be brought in say - this years draft in the 3rd. Then when goff hits 5th year option, you can look to move him if you are comfortable with the 3rd rd replacement for at least a year (he's had time in the offense, etc). And can use the picks you get to replenish depth, and possibly draft the next goff. It is not conventional - but the article shows how teams with expensive QBs aren't doing particularly hot anyway - Ravens, Bengals, Raiders, 49ers, Colts, Lions, Chargers - etc. You keep the strong defense together, you keep your top level playmakers, and you build in the trenches. It also becomes a QB desirable location from a FA perspective if you need a player for a year.
