  1. I think they saw value on the board. They clearly weren't tremendously high on the wideouts - hence signing two free agents and drafting a tight end and back instead.
  2. Only yeldons under contract after this year. The draft is as much about the future as it is about plug and play.
  3. He was third though, and played mostly once McCoy and ivory got banged up
  4. Carry 4 on the 53. Singletary wont see the field unless someone's hurt. He's a 3rd round pick, why do people act like it's a guarantee?
  5. Still comes down to grades - if we like one of the WRs way more than the others you may want to pull the trigger. Last time we did this we did zay over juju tho so...
  6. Now i'm not sure what he's saying but - could he be referring to football?
  7. Yeah - the Gronk factor was that they could roll out 22 personnel with Burkhead, Develin, Allen, and Gronk. You would then at least need 3 LBs on the field or you risk getting run over in the run game. They then just spread them 4 or 5 wide with gronk and edelman on the same side and force your LBs to cover all over the field, get you out of a blitz formation, and force you into man coverages/single high looks where you have a corner or safety covering gronk 1x1. Which is a recipe for gronk to eat. Harry will be more matchup driven - teams with weak corners or teams that scheme to take away edelman with safeties. Just chuck them up to harry on the sideline.
  8. They traded a first for cooks, but thats as close as they have come. They also have traded out of the first entirely quite a few times actually.
  9. Harry is their 1x1 on the outside guy. They always have a guy that does that, they used gronk in the playoffs in that role - but its why they brought in gordon originally. If you clog the middle of the field they like having a guy who they can use to exploit those single high safety looks
  10. I mean - they haven't extended him yet so the financial commitment is minimal. He's a great football player, but he sounds like a real POS on that tape. If he gets cut, who in their right mind would sign this guy? Talent's talent sure - but the things he said... directly to his girlfriend... are pretty messed up.
  11. I wonder if it isn't included in the guarantee due to offset language.
  12. Not sure - it wasn't included in the dead money number the 49ers would assume upon a release/trade - but usually these contracts are fully guaranteed.
  13. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/solomon-thomas-21744/ We would owe base salary and roster bonus - signing bonus would be paid by SF. So 2yr 7 mil with an option year that we wouldn't pick up unless he turned into a great player - not a rotational piece.
  14. Plus it's nice to get the guy now so you can get him some time with the 1's before next year. They were 4-12 last year and their defense was a dumpster fire. Super bowl bound, they are not.
  15. It all comes down to the QBs - if there's an early run that's awesome from a BPA perspective. If there isn't a run, hopefully someone wants to jump Denver.
  16. Tannehill has the lost season in 2017 - but when healthy, his numbers are a lot like carr's. They both throw a ton of short passes to boost their comp%. Both were highly overpaid by a guy who no longer works there ( i think tannenbaum still has a job, but its not signing players).
  17. His avg annual salary is 8th in the league at QB, and he's... Tannehill basically. His guarantee after this year goes down to 5 million - its an ideal time to replace him and build something new.
  18. Carr definitely regressed - but so did their offensive line. The year they went 12-4 they put a huge investment in O-line. Carr was sacked 51 times last year, and while his comp% went up, his TDs were down. His YPA was actually a career high, but you can't just forget about 2017 when evaluating him either. He was not very good. Seems like a Tannehill situation - His play doesn't dictate his pay. The fact that they can get out of his contract in 2020 with only a 5 mil dead cap number is important. If you like any of the QBs in this draft enough that you want to build around them, you would probably want to go for it. You don't add Trent Brown, Antonio Brown, Tyrell Williams etc unless you are trying to be competitive this year, so the tank for tua method doesn't really work either.
  19. 38/54 from 50+ career is pretty good. Zuerlein is 28/48. Gostkowski is 25/35 career. So he's up there with the best vets. The young guys like Fairbairn, Lutz, maybe Rosas, and Butker will want to get some big paydays soon.
  20. Injuries too. Fact is like all of the Whaley wide receivers were good. Just needed a QB to get them the ball...
  21. I like him - but he doesn't help with the pass rush like Oliver and Williams are projected to. He's a high motor guy, moves really well for a big man, and will probably be a top player that nobody knows about for quite a few years.
  22. The bad part was the trade - he wasn't like a crazy bust. He currently carries the highest cap hit on one of the best teams in the league.
  23. Not to mention Hill is cheap for 1 more year, and Mahomes is for 2. Watkins becomes tradeable after this year so you can recoup some draft capital there assuming he can stay healthy for a year and you need the cap for Hill. Capwise he should fit in for 2 years and then you can figure out Mahomes.
