  1. Yeah - they don't have a ton of high picks in 2019 and will need some more comp picks in 2020 so it makes sense to go after a cap casualty. Suh, Joyner, Saffold, Anderson, Fowler - that should net them a few in 2020 though.
  2. Amazing that the guy didn't show up - we dumped him for a 5th that we used to package to get stroud. But the original trade was walker + 7th for takeo spikes and holcomb. And somehow that 7th was Stevie Johnson. So I think we won a trade, where the guy we traded for didn't even show up.
  3. Yep - probably net the 3rd round comp pick for flowers. Not to mention guys like trent brown, malcolm brown and shelton should net comp pick compensation. Can extend Bennett if they need cap room. Can go after cut players like malik jackson and eric weddle, who have no impact on the comp pick formula. Oh and they have 6 of the first 101 picks in THIS draft ? - so they can add... rotational defensive linemen, secondary depth, offensive line depth, coverage/tweener OLB, WRs, or TEs
  4. Sneaky solid deal. Replaced Flowers, didn't give up much in the form of draft compensation. They'll probably recoup it all to trade down half a round. He was a cut candidate anyway with the eagles pushed right against the cap. Moving him and letting jernigan and foles walk gives the eagles some ability to address WR2/3 (if they move on from agholor, or decide to bring back tate), RB1, and their secondary. Oline is getting a bit up there in age too.
  5. The big thing I liked was that they shot their shot and made moves necessary to get out of "QB Purgatory" and get Allen. They have committed to this kid more than Whaley ever did with EJ, and they'll likely make no excuses if it fails. They didn't make ill-advised commitments based off of small sample sizes - or extend mediocre flawed QBs. They did a real crap job with him in year 1 - no stable vets, lousy WRs, and holes all along the o-line. I don't think they're going to be able to solve all of those problems in a year, but what encouraged me was how they evolved as the season went along. They added WRs who fit a new role in Mckenzie and Foster, and cut loose vets that didn't work out. Hopefully this communication came from Daboll that - we need to beat man coverage more consistently, we need more consistent effort, we need to get more creative, we need to adjust our approach because of the lack of production. It was refreshing to see after years of guys like Dennison forcing a system on players and watching said system inevitably fail. Year 2 needs to be a continuation of that evolution: Using motion to create mismatches, improvements on the o-line to help allen with blitz identification, wide receivers who can separate out of their breaks - and who put in that extra effort to get open when the QB scrambles. Allen's year 2 step needs to be improving on timing, mechanics, and pocket awareness. He needs to get a LOT better at the easy stuff. For Beane though - this shows me he is willing to play aggressively. He's not afraid to bring in anyone who he thinks could help the team win games.
  6. Yeah - I tend to value your opinion MAJBobby because it differs from that of the majority. It's not just that though - you also tend to have your opinion rooted in stats/analysis or in things that others may try and turn their eyes away from. At the same time, on Sundays - you root for the team to win. I hate people that want to be right so badly that they are willing to root against their own team to prove their point. I don't think that you think this way. You've just been let down for.. however long you have been alive and continue to support the team anyway. I think the new regime has shown that it has an idea where it stands as a franchise in the NFL, and have gone about trying to rebuild that perception. Until they do, I entirely support your opinion to have a negative opinion of the front office. The Bills have burned every one of us... so many times. They've hired idiots, done things for money purposes only, and have been playing catch-up for like 20 years.
  7. Fair enough - what was the market like for him though? I guess he could've stood his ground but maybe this gets him a chance to re-establish his value. Denver may have just sat him for the year - thus killing his value.
  8. If the player were motivated by football this might matter. He's motivated by being famous, and being rich. We could only really get him rich. His jersey wouldn't be in the top 25 of league sales in buffalo, he wouldn't get national coverage in buffalo, he wouldn't be in line to be on the fox morning show after he retires - or be on dancing with the stars - etc.
  9. I think if we made it a sign/trade and made him the highest paid WR in football he would show up to work. His current contract has him paid along the lines of allen robinson.
  10. I think if AJ or Julio was acquired by Buffalo - they would probably want to negotiate extensions sure. But i think both would show up to work as well - they seem to be professionals.
  11. See i disagree on this. I think he wants fame and fortune more than a ring. If all he cared about was a ring he'd probably just stay in pittsburgh - they make the playoffs fairly consistently. They were pretty close in 2018 (their last 3 losses by a total of 9 points, and a tie to cleveland).
  12. I think the point is - within the past 2 decades we have had and drafted talented receivers and failed to utilize them. Either it was because of the QB, or by design (building a running offense). WRs don't typically strive to sign with a team where their numbers will suffer, and for a team has made the playoffs once in the last 20 years. You need to win, and you need to show players that you are going to use them.
  13. I'm just not sure that was necessarily by design. Edelman suspended for 4 games, Gordon addition, Gronk injuries - total lack of discernable talent at WR forced them into running more. And Brady still threw for 4400 and 30.
  14. Yep. I don't mind a team that runs the ball. But do it for a reason. Like if you play say - the cardinals. Who have the worst rush defense in the NFL. The strategy should dictate in that game that you can probably just run it to either take a lead or keep a lead. But when you're playing a team like KC or the Rams or NE. The strategy dictates that you need to get first downs, stay on the field, and score points. Not - get a lead and run it til the games over. You have to be able to do this to win.
  15. Not wrong. Bottom 5 in pass attempts at least hte last 3 years. I don't feel like continuing to click so i assume it's been like that for a long time.
  16. I mean - I think they would like to? I think last year was about getting the QB they wanted. Doug Whaley called it "QB purgatory" - and beane made moves to acquire picks in a draft that was rich with QBs and got their guy. Whether he's the right guy - whatever. Hopefully this year they are using the cap space, and additional draft capital to make a few moves to improve the offense. I don't know that you can totally overhaul it in a year - but the bears took a few shots last year and it really helped Trubiskey. Hopefully Daboll opens things up a bit more, gets his backs involved in the passing game, and starts actually attacking on offense. Instead of just... running the ball and trying not to lose.
  17. I don't think he chose to get traded... he was still under contract.
  18. So add a 4 time first team all-pro receiver who averages conservatively - 100/1300/10 and keeping a first round pick so you still get 5 years of control with the drafted player... I would've been thrilled if it worked.
  19. Someone posted this on PFT and i thought it was kind of interesting: This is something the owners should address in the next CBA. I’m all for players requesting a trade. But, teams who have paid a player a signing bonus to enter into an agreement with the player for services over a certain time should have the ability to go after the signing bonus when a player intentionally damages his value while attempting to force a trade. When a team cuts a player, the player gets to hang on to his signing bonus. When a player “cuts” the team, he should have to pay it back.
  20. If I'm the owner it becomes a standoff - show up for work. Otherwise i'll fine you/not pay you. If you show up and are a distraction trying to force a trade (a la jimmy butler) - i'll change your position. You're now the backup center for the steelers - enjoy. I'm sure a bunch of UDFA's would love to tee off on this guy.
  21. The steelers as a franchise have a history of success - buffalo a history of failure. So that is a downgrade - as a life downgrade i look at it like endorsements and fame. You have a better chance for a greater amount of those money and fame in Pitt/California/Florida/NY than you do in Buffalo. Those are facts.
