Last season we didn't have any tight ends other than croom as we approached free agency.. so they signed him here. Added some more in draft. He broke his foot and was largely a miss here. However when healthy he's probably either the best or 2nd best TE on the roster. Don't cut him and replace with smith/Sweeney, that's just creating cap space to create cap space.

Nothing about upgrading the punters either

I like it for the most part - Don't understand getting rid of kroft and replacing him with no one. I'd rather cut smith and save 2.25. Smith sucks... Krofts been hurt but hes at least a versatile player. Prob also do mckenzie at original round and save some money. He can't nail down an every day spot on a team if he's not returning punts/kicks. Ray ray on the practice squad is a very similar player too. Yeldons interesting because he wasn't bad when in games. He's also pretty cheap. Depends how they roll in the draft, but he should make camp. Especially with wade being a complete wildcard. I agree on the TE front. 2 solid TEs helps move away from dimarco in run heavy fronts and allows more mis-matches. I'm fine with getting rid of yeldon, but we need to replace him beyond a rookie and a rugby player. Id stay away from some of the more expensiev guys - Henry, Drake, Gordon. But Howard would be an interesting piece to add. Mckinnon will probably get cut, and should be a nice cheap versatile player when healthy. Rex Burkhead might hit free agency too with the patriots needing cap space - and him being a majority special teams player. Just don't bring back gore... or tolbert.

John Brown failure to toe drag

The jump makes no sense there. Maybe he thought it was going to be behind him and jumped to try and pull it down and land on his back but it screwed up his space along the sideline. Another crucial mistake in a game full of them. -
QB free agency.

Jobs possibly Available - Leaving out like straight backup... NE if brady walks NO if brees walks Cincy Pittsburgh backup/Future Tennessee Indianapolis Jags (still have to pay foles tho) Denver (still have to pay flacco tho) Miami? LAC Chicago TB Car if Cam gets traded Now lets assume kraft forces brady on belichick... and i think he will - they don't have a solid backup plan anyway so sign him. Then immediately work on getting his successor. Brees probably wants another shot and payton will give it to him. Cincy job is basically there to lose it to burrow so i expect it to drop rather late and to be one of the older guys. Seems like a spot for Keenum to play for like 5-6 games before hitting the bench and giving way to burrow. Pittsburgh and NO have the same sort of - maybe he retires in a year and you have a 1 year head start in learning the offense. I say mariota to Pittsburgh cuz as Tomlin says "he won't kill ya" Tenn will probably extend tannehill and he probably won't be as good. Indianapolis/Jags - Seem like a candidate for a rookie QB in early rounds - have a vet in place on a kind of large deal but not really in position to move on. Denver - Probably just roll with lock and flacco but i doubt it works out. Miami - Probably draft a guy and honestly theyll probably cut rosen after... which is extra bad since everyone will likely have their 2 QBs at that point. Chargers - I see them trading up to try and snag tua and sell some tickets. A lot of people have brady as their answer for that too, which i think would be interesting... just unlikely. Bears - Will try to upgrade. Bucs - if they move on from winston its a desirable job with the talent they have on offense. Car - if they trade cam then it becomes a solid spot for someone like dalton. There are a fair amount of available spots open. Bucs and NO jobs are probably most desirable with the coaching staffs and offensive weapons in place there. For buffalo - i think there is some value in bringing in an upgrade at QB2. Just don't chase winstons/daltons etc. I also think Rosen is getting brock osweilered here... he'll end up getting cut after they draft tua/herbert to sit behind fitz. And at the point he's released he will not have practice squad eligibility either so he legit has to win a backup job somewhere. Maybe NE takes a shot? -
QB free agency.

Even if its not a starter, he'd get a spot with someone like cincy or chicago where he could still slot in and get a chance to start. -
A lot of that was Russ Brandon doing everything he could to make the team more profitable... the issue they created by doing that was things like "cash-to-cap" where we wouldn't use any excess cap room year to year. This puts you at a huge disadvantage from a free agency/extension standpoint. When we drafted someone good - they left in 4 or 5 years or whatever. Otherwise we missed anywayl. Between that strategy, the Toronto strategy of selling home games for money, the inability to bring in solid football people to scout/evaluate/coach for a 20 something year period.. It's not really Wilsons fault - he was a hands off owner regarding building his team for the most part. I think the only thing he said was basically - the money out can't exceed the money in. There were ways to do this that weren't selling home games and signing splash FA's like TO. We spent all this time worrying about how to balance those sheets that the team was just.. crappy.

We did hit that one ref - maybe he was pissed and didnt call that helmet-to-helmet on josh.

My Offseason Primer, Position Group: QB
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good stuff. I know you probably didn't include dalton because he is technically not "available". I also think he may try and go somewhere to start. Chicago maybe... Tampa... Chargers... or Tennessee should they lose tannehill. Someone's going to trade for Newton too, so Carolina may become a landing spot for all these guys too. Bridgewater is the wildcard i think since he has 6 starts in 3 years, but Jimmy G got that big deal and it seems to be working for them. He'll probably get paid, so buffalo would pass. Mariota to me doesn't look like a starter, but neither does trubiskey so maybe they add him there and just see what happens. I would like him as a backup though, he's a lot like tyrod. Winstons on a 5th year option, and you're kind of playing with fire if you release him - but i wouldn't blame them in the slightest. It becomes a very attractive landing spot for a number of QBs. Chargers should walk from rivers, and i honestly like them to move up and grab Tua if he's remotely healthy. It's a Russ Brandon marketing move to sell tickets - but they have to do it. Tennessee will probably try and get something done with Tannehill so they can tag henry and work out an extension. Patriots brady, Saints Brees. The rest a merry-go-round of mediocrity. Would love to snag a Henne to upgrade barkley. Especially watching him flounder around in the rain. -
Giants hiring Joe Judge as HC

Yeah - i wonder when dave toub is going to get a shot. You're also coaching up a lot of young guys, backups, fundamentals etc. -

Pretty solidly coached unit. Multiple blocks this year - coached slater and ebner into studs. I think MAYBE they're going for someone who just... leads? Maybe? -
The 50/50 Ball to...DiMarco?
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Bakin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know he's a fullback... But he is a football player. He should be able to catch a pass... If he can't- get rid of him. The idea is u get singletary in man cov. With a linebacker. You sacrifice by also having LBs on Smith and dimarco. -
Yeah - Jim Johnson's disciples all seem to know what they're doing to some degree. Pretty solid legacy of guys there... Rivera, McDermott, Frazier, Harbaugh... and some OK dudes in Spagnuolo, and Pagano. Not all of them were made to be Head Coaches - but the pay raise you get to do it is probably worth it.

The fair catch, that wasn't.

When Dak had the coin toss issue a few weeks ago - i didnt mind that they changed it. Why? because it didn't happen on the field. It's completely procedural. The fact that they still have a live coin toss on the field is wholly unnecessary. They could easily figure this out in the locker room or during warmups, or just have home teams get the ball in the 2nd half. This call bothers me because it happened on the field. I don't care what the intention was. I intended to dive into the endzone for a TD, but fumbled it into the end zone. I'll take the ball back please. Since when does intent matter in a football game? -
Bills officially have pick 22 in the 1st round
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah i feel ya there. I liked that he lines up all over the place, has insanely good hands, good size, makes contested catches, and some twitch to his route running that i think will translate to the NFL. Question will be how he runs at the combine. If he's in the 4.5 range i think he'll get a 1st round grade. Tremendous production, mixed with a lot of highlights in a lot of big games. As much as teams say they go BPA - there will be holes that need filling in Olines, D-lines, and cornerback. Talent will slip into the 2nd round, always happens. -

Yeah - the 1 year of contract control, the nature of it being a WR heavy draft, etc. Means its harder to confidently offer a 1st. -

I like Jefferson a lot - even before he dismantled Oklahoma. -

Why would they trade him? Theyre like at the cap and he's cheap. Makes no sense. -
It was one of those - was that your guy or my guy etc. It def looked like it was knox's man though. Morse pulling there to block that LB doesn't really make sense - he has more ground to cover than the linebacker does. I think morse is there to cut block anyone who gets through the traffic clean like he did earlier.

The backup qb issue
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think his days as a starter ended when tannehill came out to the same offense and basically lit it up. He'd be a good fit here, similar athleticism to allen. He possesses a lot of the skill sets that tyrod had - Takes care of the ball, but also gets sacked a lot. Pretty accurate on certain routes, but struggles throwing people open/jump balls. Not particularly accurate on deep balls either. I know we extended barkley but even if we carried him all the way through camp the most he would cost is about 500k against the cap if they released him. Its a position that needs upgrading. I'd also want to take a look at Dalton (should he get cut). One of Dalton, Bridgewater, Mariota should end up with the chargers - but i wonder too if they move up to draft Tua. Rivers Brady Brees is also a strange conundrum - but i see 2 out of 3 just going right back. Rivers either retires or plays with the chargers imo. Colts situation is also interesting... There won't be as many changes i think this year because guys like foles and flacco really can't be moved - and that kind of limits what those teams do at QB. -
Easy first down there too and he probably trots out of bounds unharmed. Instead he got absolutely lit up on 1st down. Imagine they get the PF there for lowering the head to initiate contact on Allen (the 2018 rule change everyone hated)... instead of buffalo getting a personal foul for trying to block a guy chasing the QB (the 2019 rule change everyone hates).
