Beane needs to get on the telephone
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to Cal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really wanted Reader in FA- but at the time we had star so... Not sure they'd trade him. His 17.5 base salary next year is actually rather reasonable. If they need cap space they can even extend him and re-work it. -

I mean - you have to go for it down 2 scores when you can't stop the run right? May as well run a QB power or something there and just try again to start the 4th. I feel like with the 50/50 nature of going for 2 - 2 points puts you down 5 and 0 puts you down 7. Its tricky - if you kick and get a stop, a TD actually wins the game. If you miss the 2 pointer and get the stop now you only tie. So I don't know the entire math there... It comes down to actually getting a stop though which they didnt do. So like - down 14, you should go for 2. If you get it, you end up down 6 with a chance to kick to win. If you don't you have another coin flip chance to tie on the 2nd score. If you kick, you're down 7 and will then kick to tie - so no result of kicking is likely to get you a lead, while going for 2 has a 50% chance. Probably not seeing as he didn't work here. -

Nah - Mahomes didn't go to the senior bowl. Most of the McD picks were senior bowl guys - Peterman, Zay, Tre, Dawkins -
Beat the Jets and Pats

Miami doesn't have pitt/tenn, and got cincy/jax instead. So... that week 17 game could loom large. Not to mention - tough schedule this year. No NFCE, NFCW is far better. AFCW is good too. And our other games are Tenn and Pitt who are both currently undefeated. 10-6 this year vs. 10-6 last year is a big change. I wonder if our defense was ever really THAT good, or if the bad QBs propped up a more mediocre unit. They certainly werent like... BAD like they are now though. -
New Injuries: Ford, Lewis, Dodson

Even in quarters there - if you don't pick up the crosser he'll probably get to the end zone. Communication is super important in zone coverage. -

At this point the entire defense is a mess. People want edmunds benched... but milano and dodson are banged up so... not sure who you want to put in. Klein - same thing. Dline - they did bench guys, the new guys didn't do much either. Nickel CB is a struggle. Norman made a nice play, but lets not forget how absolutely toasted he got the week before. The safeties aren't playing as well either. Poyer has to make a play on that ball to kelce - not sure if he was worried about him breaking in on a post. I wouldn't blame white there as it seemed like cover 2 so he has the crosser in front. He bails for kelce and the crosser probably walks in anyway. -

Do we have guards who are better too? Do they kick Williams inside and start nsekhe until Felecianos back? Winters sucks, ford is probably going to miss time, spains hurt. All offseason everyone complained that he was a fumbler. Now the regular guys can't find space so... he must be able to find space? -
I think winters and ford should be benched. wasnt like 30 something yards gained in garbage time with barkley at QB?

yeah. It reminded me of the browns game last year (more frustrating, but similar failures - run D, 3rd down, kicking etc). So I was expecting that result. We drive down score, get happy - then they immediately carve up the defense and take the lead. I believe hauschka missed a FG at the end of that one too.
-
The 3rd down blitzing will continue, until we can scheme up something to prevent it. I thought we did a nice job picking them up honestly. It was the 1st and 2nd downs that were killing this team in the 2nd half. They're sitting back in coverage - 5 DBs, soft zone. And we can't get more than a yard or 2 on first downs rushing. That's a serious problem. I know KC is beastly up front on defense, but cmon.

Yes FRAZIER IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM

They could've had 8 in the box all day and still got gashed. The defense couldnt control the LOS. There isn't a scheme that works when ur not getting any push -

Everything starts up front. No pressure on 3rd downs, no push on 1st downs. They can't attack the RPO mesh point, they cant cover on third down. Massive rush lanes. They aren't figured out - they're just doing a poor job at all the things needed to make the defense they run successful. It's not "edmunds needs to do this" or whatever. The dline unit must be better. The LBs must be better. The DBs must be better. We "held them" to 26 points, but also held ourselves to 50 total offensive plays. -

Well, it was raining. So... the deep balls are going to be tougher to throw, catch, time... everything. So maybe we should stack the box a bit more to help out the terrible defensive line. -
Defensive problems-just my opinion
Bleeding Bills Blue replied to BuffBills51's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do wonder if Oliver is still banged up. But man, why did we pay vernon butler? He flat out sucks. Zimmer was also largely terrible when i saw him. Edmunds is a function of the defense. You play soft zone, they can use RPOs to force you into a decision. He kept playing pass (as he should), and they'd run over the joke of a dline. The zone helps when they run pass plays, but we'd get caught up with mahomes eyes and lose track of players. The entire defense is disjointed and it starts up front. Lost the edge last week, flat out lost the LOS this week. -
The issue in this one was up front. Some of the "late processing" is by design. If you are in zone in an RPO you can't just fill your gap because now your zone is vacated. Our lines inability to disrupt rush lanes allows linemen to get to the 2nd level and block linebackers. Butler stinks. Zimmer stinks. Phillips stinks. The heavy set with butler and zimmer would still get pushed completely out of their gaps. Could have ray lewis and it wouldn't matter. Who would you sign? Jax is on like their 4th kicker this year and already cut hauschka. It's not like the available players are any good.

Zimmer and Butler were getting tossed around all game too. Just a total lack of push. -
