  1. He's a good, even great player at times. But with Allens extension looming - and UFAs all over the offensive line (a unit that needs upgrading), it may just be poor timing. The reduced cap will hit free agents hard, but if hes considered a difference maker by a team - he will still command in the 12-15 per year range. 15M would put him as the 3rd highest AAV hit among ILBs.
  2. If Jimmy G isn't having particularly successful seasons when healthy - in the shanahan/kubiak offense (run and heavy PA). I don't personally believe he is any good. He's pretty much 30 years old, and has 1 full season - and no true success. With the rams making the move for stafford, seattle being seattle, and arizona being solidly in that 7-10 win range - you have to figure out QB. He might be good enough to get it done, but he might be bad enough to finish 4th.
  3. Always liked burkhead for this (they used sammy morris and others in a similar role). Guy plays special teams, and is an adequate running back. The idea is - oh todays a day where i can use moss power, or singletary shiftiness, or XXX speed. One guys the primary 3rd down guy, but if they're rolling with extra DBs - you hammer them with power etc.
  4. He had some issues with that kind of thing in denver. I respect him for A - beating mccloud for the job (both had really good really solid 2019 camps), and B - carving out a role even after they signed roberts, drafted davis and hodgins etc. Go get that paycheck.
  5. Fullbacks have always been a different breed though. They also deliver a considerable amount of punishment - which they take some pride in. They're football guys.
  6. I think there's still a role there for some teams. It definitely was lacking for buffalo in those 3rd and 2's.
  7. Hard work got him over 10 million dollars in earnings over his career. Thats enough to settle down where you want and do a job you love for the rest of your life.
  8. I suspect a fair amount of this. Do you take a paycut for a guarantee in 2022 instead of being released? Example - base salary if 10m and you have a 2.5M bonus that was already paid so your cap is 12.5, and your dead is 2.5. If you hit the market, you won't get 10 - you may get something like say 5. There's also possibly a limited amount of interest from teams, if you are cut after the initial frenzy you may only have a couple of interested teams. You negotiate to lower your cap hit to 2.5 base salary in 2021 and maybe convert some money to 2022 base salary. Throw in a roster bonus for 2022, maybe some performance escalators, guarantee some base salary for 2022. The idea being... i don't want to take a paycut, get hurt, and tank my value beyond 2021 - a cheaper extension gives you a bit more security.
  9. we were seeing zone coverage where it isn't effective.
  10. I think getting a bit more creative with motions and formations could've helped them find some more space in man coverage. Bunch formations with mesh concepts will eat in man coverage. Max protect and the deep overs were where they gashed man coverage all year too. I agree on the blitzes though. Big sacks and the grounding came on blitzes where we left someone unblocked and allen didn't get the ball out or escape. Need to be able to run the ball, screens behind those blitzes too. We tried doing those WR screens but its tough in press coverage.
  11. Reid coached QBs for 2 seasons. And worked under Holmgren, with a HOF QB.
  12. Taking everything like cap whatever out of it, i'd probably say corey davis?
  13. And Lee smith stopped at 30 to pound a beer...
  14. Would be the highest cap hit on the team next year. 2 years ago he was first team all-pro - but at this point he's probably more a candidate for something like calais campbell. 2 years 12-14 million.
  15. According to Miami - miami is the frontrunner.
  16. Because that doesn't help when you get hit 2 yards behind the LOS. They were fine in pass pro for the most part - until the playoffs basically.
  17. They would get pick #2 - so they theoretically don't need either. They're drafting someone.
  18. They play the AFCE this year though... even if just to avoid the really bad optics in likely a punted season it might be worth it. Nobody knows who's on his list other than supposedly miami and the jets. I'd imagine SF, maybe LA rams, maybe LV. Who really knows. Getting pick 2 or 3 is nice. But you're probably getting pick 1-3 next season if you went 4-12 WITH watson, i can only imagine the next year or 2 without him, and without a ton of talent. So if i'm punting on 2021 (and probably 2022) - Just give me lots of picks and get the guy out of conference if i can avoid it.
  19. I mean, that could be a negotiation with him. He has a no trade clause, but i might say - we'll do what we can to move you. Whats the NFC list look like?
  20. https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/49ers/wild-hypothetical-deshaun-watson-49ers-trade-proposed-bill-barnwell I thought this was interesting. Jets keep #2 and get Jimmy G to run the shanahan style offense. Can still draft a QB at 2, and not deal with darnold drama. Maybe throw a 3rd team in like denver? Maximize the value you get for the tua/darnold piece.
  21. So Tua gives you the extra 2 years of control... but Darnold has typically done some more impressive stuff on the football team. Either one is coming with pick #2 or #3. And considering the 20M you have to eat in cap space, i'd ask for more. I'd start the bidding with 3 1sts and a QB.
  22. Agreed. Because it isn't just him - its daboll, its allen, its the offensive line. Bad call - play blown up. Bad check - play blown up. Bad Blocking - play blown up. People act like having speed is going to fix the running game somehow. I'd personally start with the offensive line. I think some changes need to be made, and an attempt needs to be made to find premier talent. It helps both passing and rushing offenses. Buffalo had some pro-bowlers on the line with wood (1x), and Incognito (3x). But as of right now the unit is not particularly good.
  23. Supposedly Bienamy hasn't interviewed well. He also has a pretty long list of legal issues in his past. That'll get brought up in an interview. I mean... the QB won MVP in 2019 so i would think that he coordinated a good passing game in 2019.
  24. I don't mind him in a rotation, but he needs to bring a lot more juice to his pass rush. Chris jones was wrecking pockets all game long on the interior, and thats what he was drafted to do.
